RSS Feeds

This paper provides an overview regarding the characteristics of web 2.0 and its role in imparting knowledge, the characteristics of Library 2.0, the role of university libraries in spreading use of library 2.0 facilities, usage of RSS Feeds, Social Bookmarking, Instant Messaging, and web based chat facilities in the library environment.

Actualmente, para mantenernos alerta sobre las variaciones de nuestro entorno competitivo y tomar las mejores decisiones, es deseable que tengamos cuanto antes la información que es relevante para nuestro negocio y/o actividad. La cuestión va más allá del ánimo de lucro o no que exista en nuestras operaciones, es válido para todas las organizaciones.
Es evidente que en la actualidad el dinamismo de los cambios, tanto tecnológicos como comerciales, nos obliga a estar mucho más informados sobre nuestro entorno que en épocas pasadas. La globalización de los mercados (y de la vida en general) provoca que cambios en lejanas latitudes tengan, más temprano que tarde, su influencia en el ámbito en el cual operamos. Esta situación tiene más relevancia aún en contextos de crisis.
La utilización de simples herramientas web muy difundidas, como los agregadores de noticias (lectores de RSS) y  las redes sociales (ej: Twitter) nos permiten una primera aproximación al monitoreo de información.

Intelligent search depends on effective methods for identifying the information needs of a user and making relevant information resources available when needed. Reflecting user context has long been recognized as a key aspect to realizing the potential of intelligent Web search. This paper proposes a theoretical basis for better understanding the role of context in Web retrieval. It addresses the problem of identifying context-specific terms, finding relevant information sources, and automatically formulating and refining queries. We describe ongoing research on the use of incremental methods to retrieve relevant content through two main approaches. The first, feed-based, periodically checks for new relevant items in specific websites by accessing RSS feeds. The second, query-based, incrementally formulates queries, which are submitted to search interfaces (e.g., major search engines or individual search forms). RSS, (Really Simple Syndication), is a format for delivering regularly changing Web content. Many news-related sites, Weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it. RSS takes the latest headlines from different Web sites, and pushes those headlines down to your computer for quick scanning. It is a simple way to share information between sites mostly based on XML. Content mining in the Web is the mining of text, pictures and graphs of a Web document to determine the relevance of the content to the search query. This paper is an attempt to have a detailed survey about RSS, its characteristics and its role on blog mining.

—Sequence-based schemes determine beacon sequence to help sensor node localization. Due to the ambiguity of RSS over distance, sequence-based scheme may have RSS-inconsistency problem, i.e., no location in the localization space could match the beacon sequence. Besides, determining the matched location is costly. In this paper, we introduce a RSS-inconsistency avoidance localization scheme, which takes linear-time. Our scheme is applicable to real sensors. Our localization error in real sensors is less than 0.34×communication radius. According to the simulation results in NS-2, our scheme is more accurate and reliable than existing schemes.

Alors que la mort de la presse était annoncée, on assiste aujourd’hui à la multiplication de ses formes d’existence. Les journaux proposent leurs contenus sur des nouveaux supports (sites web, réseaux sociaux, applications mobile). Le passage d’un journal papier à un dispositif multiplateforme est une transformation très profonde qui impose des changements dans les activités des journalistes et dans les habitudes  de la rédaction.
Cet article vise à étudier si et comment les stratégies de contenu d’un journal changent face à l’émergence du Web 2.0 et quel est le rôle joué par le concept d’architecture de l’information dans cette transformation.
After the announcement of the death of the press, we are now witnessing the proliferation of its forms of existence. Newspapers offer their content through new formats (websites, social networks, mobile applications). The transition from the paper to the multi-device journal is a profound transformation that fosters changes in journalists activities and newsrooms routines. This article aims to examine whether and how newspapers’ content strategies change to cope with the emergence of Web 2.0 and which role is played by the notion of information architecture in this transformation.

The increasing role played by web technology in the development of library services is an active reaction to the challenges posed by communication. This paper attempts to discuss the fast development of Web Technology and its application in the library and documentation centres. Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library adopted many Web 2.0 tools to accommodate the growing expectations of dynamic web and mobile services in academic libraries. This poster presentation highlights the features and tools in each Web 2.0 service. Sentiment analysis is the procedure by which information is extracted from the opinions, appraisals and emotions of people in regards to entities, events and their attributes. Opinion plays essential part in our information-gathering behaviour before taking a decision. Sentiment analysis involves analyzing datasets (online News, online review, social media, blogs, and discussion groups) which contain opinions with the objective of classifying the opinions as positive, negative, or neutral. In this proposed paper, a technique is used to perform online News sentiment classification based on a linguistic approach. The proposed work uses SentiWordNet to calculate overall sentiment score of each sentence. This paper classifies subjective and objective sentences from Online News using RSS Feeds. Really Simple Syndication (RSS) or Rich Site Summary is a Web feed format used for publishing frequently updated content on the Internet, such as blogs, news, audio and video in a standardized format. The semantic score of subjective sentences is extracted from SentiWordNet to calculate their polarity as positive, negative or neutral. Subjectivity of a document strongly depends on its sentences. Hence, a lexical-syntactical approach is proposed to recognize and classify subjectivity at the sentence level. The results indicate SentiWordNet could be used as an important resource for sentiment classification tasks. I. INTRODUCTION Opinion mining is a recent sub discipline of computational linguistics which is concerned not with the topic a document is about, but with the opinion it expresses. Sentiment classification has become a very popular task in natural language processing area, which tries to predict sentiment (opinion, emotion, etc.) from texts. Sentiment classification could be done in word/phrase level, sentence level and document level. Sentiment analysis has now become the dominant approach used for extracting sentiment and appraisals from online sources. Subjectivity analysis focuses on dividing language units into two categories: objective and subjective, whereas sentiment analysis attempts to divide the language units into three categories; negative, positive and neutral. Opinion Mining can be defined as a sub-discipline of computational linguistics that focuses on extracting opinion of persons from the web. It is a Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Information Extraction (IE) task that aims to obtain feelings of the writer expressed in positive or negative comments by analysing a large number of documents proposed by the example of a journal article in [1]. It combines the techniques of computational linguistics and Information Retrieval (IR).
