1-INTRODUCTION
Our school have non- readers and undernourished pupils. For the
school year 2008-2009, there were 223 pupils belong to the below normal
weight(Baseline result), and is equivalent to 22% from the total school
population. Pupils who could hardly read or non readers at the beginning of
the school year has 72 pupils from the total population.
It is said that HEALTH IS WEALTH , and this is a saying
which one believed on how good nutrition works for our body. To have a
sound mind and body , one should comply .
According to Brain-Base Learning Theory, learning is based on
the structure and function of the brain. As long as the brain is not prohibited
from fulfilling its normal processes, learning will occur. One of its core
principles states that learning engages the whole physiology. Hence, an
individual should first satisfy ones bodily needs. This is in parallel with
Abraham Maslows Hierarchy of needs. It states that basic needs such as
hunger, thirst, clothing and shelter should be satisfied first before higher
needs can be satisfied. Thus, a feeding program that will serve as an
intervention to cater malnutrition problem of the school.
It is also believed, to have a greater achievement in curricular and
non curricular, a pupil must be in good nultrition. The school made several
interventions for a goal of lessening the prevailing number of pupils having
malnutrition and reading problems.
