Using Adjectival Modifiers
 Modifiers describe, limit, or give exact meanings to words. They are very important because they
add color and exactness to writing and speaking.
ADJECTIVES – words that modify nouns or pronouns.
Types of Adjectives:
1. Descriptive- tells what kind
Examples: I have a brilliant idea that can really help in solving your problem.
You can see tall trees around the campus.
She is diligent in doing every task assigned to her.
Do THIS! – Identify the descriptive adjective.
1. Garlic is a tasty plant related to the onion.
2. It contains small sections called cloves.
3. Cows feeding on the plant produce garlicky milk.
4. People even used garlic to cure bad toothaches.
5. In some parts of the world, garlic can be a troublesome plant.

2. Demonstrative – points out

3. Numeral - tells how many or how much.
a. Ordinal – signifies rank b. Cardinal – signifies number

4. Articles- are special groups of adjectives.
a. Indefinite articles (a , an) b. Definite article- (the)

- do not point out a particular person or thing -it points out a particular person or thing
Examples: Examples:
I enjoy eating an apple with my lunch. (any The apple had a worm in it.

Rule: Use article an if the beginning of the word

6. Proper adjectives - derived from proper nouns
Examples: The Philippine flag has four colors.
