I. OBJECTIVES
TARGET At least 85% of the students learned the competency.
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates an understanding of Philippine literature in the
Period of Emergence as a tool to assert one’s identity; strategies in listening to
and viewing informative and short narrative text; word relationships and
associations; informative speech forms; and use of direct/reported speech,
passive/active voice, simple past and past perfect tenses, and sentence
connectors.
B. Performance Standards The learner transfers learning by: showing ways of asserting one’s identity;
comprehending informative and short narrative text using schema and
appropriate listening and viewing strategies; expressing ideas, opinions and
feelings through various formats; and enriching written and spoken
communication using direct/reported speech, active/passive voice, simple past
and past perfect tenses and connectors correctly and appropriately.

Have you ever argued with someone because you have
a different reaction to a given assertion?
-Our topic is to react to the assertion made by the author in the literary piece
of writing. The writers assert life and literary works like a story, a poem, or a
play.
Writers’ assertion- encourages the readers to support their interpretation and
perception. However, learners should also learn to react to the assertion made
by the author using agreeing or disagreeing to it. Through this the learners can
think critically and positively.

We have different types of assertion, and we are going to discuss it all today.

Go back to the copy of “The Legend of Gold Mining” and pick one
assertion from it. Identify what type of assertion it is and write a short
