The aim of this chapter is to examine the history of storytelling. This brief history includes the concept of storytelling from myths to the digital era. In the first part of the chapter, the origins of storytelling in primitive communities and its development in later periods are examined. In the second part of the chapter, the development process of digital storytelling is explained. According to this, traditional storytelling has gained a new form called digital storytelling which started with a workshop in 1993 by Dana Atchley. One year later, the Center for Digital Storytelling (CDS) was established in Berkley, CA. The Center for Digital Storytelling has organized workshops and partnered with organizations around the world to hold projects on story facilitation, digital storytelling and other forms of digital media production and since 1993, it has helped more than 20,000 people to share their own stories. Though the digital storytelling movement started in North America, it ha...

Education, like all the other fields in society, is influenced by social, technological, political happenings. The catastrophic environmental crisis and nuclear destructions in the 1960s and 1970s and the increasing corruptions, the breakdowns in family life, moving away from traditional, social and religious values worried people. Besides all these undesired changes, people began to lead a more routine life and devote their lives to values of materialist world. A group of sensitive educators reacted against people's moving away from traditional values and losing their "spirit" and they insisted that education should nurture development of the whole person in terms of intellectual, emotional, physical, social, aesthetic and spiritual. In addition, they also believed that in educational process human values such as peace, honesty, equality, cooperation, love, and understanding should be taken into consideration. Emerging from such opinions, holistic education has gained importance among the educators in the world. This study is based on the historical roots, definitions, philosophies and principles of holistic education are explained.

: The Higher Council of Education in Turkey (CoHE) has mandated the inclusion of a course
titled ‘Foreign Language Teaching in Primary Schools’ in the curriculum of classroom teacher
education in 2018. Although there are some attempts to release coursebooks based on the
predetermined curriculum for that course, these attempts and the curriculum are generic and largely
uninformed of the needs and views of actual practitioners. Hence, the present study examined inservice classroom teachers’ views on possible content to include in the abovementioned course.
Moreover, the present study investigated perceived needs and deficiencies of classroom teachers in
teaching English in their classrooms. Designed as a qualitative study, the present study collected data
from 33 multigrade class teachers through an open-ended questionnaire. The present study revealed
that multigrade class teachers perceived their own proficiency in English to be too low to teach it.
Furthermore, the results pinpointed that teachers perceived their students’ L1 level as an obstacle for
effectively teaching them English. Finally, the present study implied that designing a curriculum
responsive to particular needs and requirements of multigrade classes might be a viable solution to
improve the quality of foreign language teaching in multigrade classes

The aim of this research is to determine the opinions of teachers who have Syrian students in their class about the problems experienced during initial literacy teaching process and their suggestions for improving this process. The research was designed in qualitative model and interview method was preferred for data collection in this context. The study group consisted of 10 teachers and interviews were conducted face to face and individually. In the interviews, semi-structured interview form prepared by the researchers was used as data collection tool. In the first stage, the interview form was presented to three experts (1 Turkish education, 1 classroom education and 1 measurement and evaluation specialist). Interviews were recorded with the help of voice recorder and the participants were coded between K1 to K10 before analyzing the data. Descriptive analysis was conducted on the data obtained from the teachers and themes and codes were created within this scope. In the research, it was seen that the data obtained through interviews were collected under two main themes and six sub-themes. The first main theme was focused on the problems experienced by the primary school teachers who have Syrian students in their classrooms during the initial literacy process, and in this context, it was seen that "problems encountered in instruction dimension", "student-originated problems", and "problems arising from social environment" sub-themes emerged. The second main theme focuses on the suggestions of teachers to improve the initial literacy process, and in this context, it was seen that "suggestions on planning", "suggestions for instruction methods, techniques and materials", and "suggestions for teacher education" sub-themes emerged.

The main purpose of this study is to determine the primary school teachers' perceptions of Turkish lesson activities and to examine these perceptions in terms of different variables. For this purpose, the research was designed according to the survey method, one of the quantitative research methods. The sample of the study consists of 117 primary school teachers working in Şanlıurfa province with sampling errors of + ̅ 0.10 according to the convenience sampling method. Demographic knowledge test and "Perception Scale for Turkish Lesson Activities" were used as data collection tools in the study. Descriptive statistics, t-test for independent groups and One-Way Analysis of Variance for independent samples were used in data analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that the perceptions of the teachers towards Turkish lesson activities were at a high level. As a result of the data analysis, it was found out that the teachers' professional seniority, age, education level and the grade levels they teach are effective on their perceptions of the activities in Turkish lesson and that the school type (public or private), the department they graduated from and their participation in professional development activities did not have an effect on their perceptions of activities in Turkish lessons. Based on these results, the number of professional development activities to be organized for classroom teachers in the context of the activity should be increased, classroom teachers with advanced age and seniority should be made conscious about doing activities in their classes, and observation and interview should be done in order to examine the perceptions of classroom teachers about the activities in Turkish lessons in depth. It is recommended to conduct research with qualitative research method.
Investigation of the relationship between prospective teachers' attitudes towards mobile learning and their readiness for mobile learning.

The study was conducted with Turkish and Syrian students who attend primary schools in Sanlıurfa, a city on the west eastern part of Turkey during the fall semester of 2019-2020 academic year. The results of the study showed that Turkish students produced a total of 39 valid metaphors clustered under seven conceptual categories and Syrian students produced a total of 34 valid metaphors clustered under seven conceptual categories. While five categories were common for both groups, two categories were different. The categories of unity and solidarity, tranquility and happiness, conditions for peace, peace as a valuable thing, freedom, possibility/impossibility were common for both groups. Therefore, the findings from Turkish and Syrian students' metaphors were presented together with a comparative approach under these categories. The category of need/necessity for the metaphors by Turkish students and the category of symbols for peace for the metaphors by Syrian students were examined separately.

In this study, the aim is to determine the effect of digital storytelling on the primary school teacher candidates' 21st century skills. Since digital storytelling contains many skills like information, media and technology skills, communication and collaboration skills, group works, etc within itself, it can be defined as a good way for individuals to gain and develop 21st century skills. A digital storyteller, during the process of making his/her digital stories, is to research and access information, analyze, evaluate and give decision on what s/he has researched, solve problems, use his/her creativity, be capable of using technology, applications and/or programs and have digital, technology, visual and information literacy . In order to collect data, 21st Century Skills and Competences Scale Directed at Teaching Candidates, digital storytelling rubric and structured interviews were used. According to results of the study, posttest scores of the candidate teachers' on 21st Century Skills and Competences Scale were higher than those of on the pretest. There was a meaningful difference between digital storytelling rubric scores the teacher candidates got from the three digital stories and the scores got higher on every following digital story, which can be said to support the result that the posttest scores of the candidate teachers' on 21st Century Skills and Competences Scale were higher than those of on the pretest. This situation is also supported by the fact that the scores obtained from the digital stories explain the variability of the scores on 21st Century Skills and Competences Scale by about 40% and that the scores obtained from the digital stories are the predictor of 21st century skills and competences of the teacher candidates. The participants also mentioned at the interviews that digital storytelling contributed to their 21st century skills development.

According to a report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), about 60 million people were forced to leave their homes and worldwide displacement due to wars, conflicts and persecutions is at the highest level. Turkey is one of the most important countries which has been following a policy of opening its doors to those who have had to leave their countries due to such problems as war, economic problems, political problems, etc. in their own countries. Today, there are millions of people from other countries in the country, which also means that there are thousands of foreign students in many primary schools in the country. However, this situation has brought many problems for the foreign students, Turkish students, teachers and school administrators. The aim of this study is to identify the general and educational problems encountered by the foreign primary school students from the perspectives of the classroom teachers in Bilecik. As the study aims at examining the problems in detail depending on the views of the teachers and to bring about recommendations within the scope of those views, phenomenological research design in quantitative approaches was adopted. The data of the study were gathered from 33 classroom teachers in four primary schools in the province with semi-structured interviews. For the analysis of the data, content analysis was conducted. As a result of the interview with the classroom teachers, the findings were categorized under seven themes and sub-themes related to the main ones. According to the findings of the study, the foreign students encounter language, cultural, economic, politic, social, physiological problems and the problems in teaching-learning process.

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of digital stories on the Turkish (mother language) listening skills of fourth grade students. The study used a mixed methods and was conducted in two fourth grade classrooms (ages 9-10 years) in a primary school in Eskisehir city, Turkey, during the 2014-2015 spring semester. During the 8-week application process, Turkish lessons were conducted using digital stories and activities were designed depending on the digital stories. While the lesson plans were put into action by the classroom teacher, the researcher observed the process. Research data were obtained also from a listening comprehension test, and teacher and student interviews. Quantitative data from the listening comprehension test was analysed using t-tests, and the qualitative data was subjected to descriptive analysis. A significant difference was found between the post-test listening comprehension scores for the experimental and control groups. The qualitative data from student and teacher interviews, and from classroom observations, showed that digital stories, listening activities based on the stories, and the creation of a more engaging and motivating classroom environment had positive effects on listening comprehension skills in the experimental group.

According to this, traditional sto-rytelling has gained a new form called digital storytelling which started with a workshop in 1993 by Dana Atchley. Though the digital storytelling movement started in North America, it has also spread in Europe, Australia, Asia, Africa and South America. The movement has found a place in the world of today.
