The Slussen urban project designed by architect Tage William-Olsson and engineer Gösta Lundborg between 1929 and 1935 in Stockholm, synthetically expresses the emergence of the automobile in the European cities at the beginning of the 20th century. The combination of more than thirty previous proposals highlight the evolution of a space in contradicting confrontation with infrastructure and the attempts to give an urban form to a strategic place between Gamla Stan and Södermalm. This article will summarise these declines in 5 successive  stages: from the Slussen as a discussion in hydraulic engineering to its first urban considerations, from the Slussen seen as a matter of architectural composition to the first irruptions of the road forms, from the Slussen as a “traffic machine” to the discovery of its own aesthetic, from the gray Slussen to the architecture embedded in its interstices and finally, the understanding of Slussen as a fragile and unstable piece in the urban landscape of the “Venice of the North”. This evolution allows Slussen to be highlighted as a paradigmatic record of the implosion of traffic on the European city and a pioneering example of the interesting relationship between infrastructure and urbanity.

The history of the Sparre palace addresses the main stories of the house's existence from construction until today. One of the main stories is about the Sparre family's ambition to build palaces in the capital. The family's construction ambition was included in the kingdom's grand plan to involve the elite in the interests of the country by attracting it with high offices to Stockholm's castle. The nobles would thus leave their country castles to invest and manifest themselves in the capital. The result was a beautiful and lavish architecture that put Stockholm on the European power map. Riddarholmen became the supreme-most neighborhood of the high-aristocrats early on, and the family Sparre received a prominent presence here thanks to royal rewards in the form of land donations and public assignments. The Sparre palace stayed in the family's possession for several generations but was then sold on to a number of senior officials.

The transition from private home to office building belongs to the second important story about the house. The castle fire and the country's growing administrative apparatus created an increasing need for new office space, which during the 18th century gradually took on the nobility's comfortable and representative palaces in the capital. The Crown bought the Sparreska Palace among its first new office buildings. The authorities' high demands on suitable interiors and their internal organizational transformations have strongly influenced the house since then.

Poems and misogyny in 18th century Stockholm

In private notebooks from the 18th century, quantities
of rhymes, anecdotes and songs are found that
were recited at establishments and joints in Stockholm.
A small number of these texts differ from
other texts by an exceptional blend of the sublime
and the grotesque. These are poems that in various
ways are concerning “whores”. Women are
often named and well known profiles in the city.
The texts expires a view of “the whore” that is at
odds with the slight romantic glow that looms
over the more common representation the 18th
century tavern life, where men and women intoxicates
and interfere with the mutual desire. Recurring
themes are excrements, intercourse and aging
bodies. Death is often present. By analysing recurring
themes, who sang, who listened and who the
women of the songs were, I try to understand the
link between death and carnal desires, human
waste, scorn, whores and the laughter that the
poems intended to provoke.

Mit der Landung des schwedischen Königs Gustav Adolf (1594–1632) auf der norddeutschen Insel Usedom am 6. Juli 1630 intensivierten sich die publizistischen Bemühungen des (pro)schwedischen Publikationswesens illustrierte Flugblätter herauszubringen. In diesen wurde der schwedische König unter anderem als militärisch-potenter Feldherr, als antike oder alttestamentarische Heldengestalt, als »Löwe aus Mitternacht« oder gar als Arzt inszeniert. Diese publizistischen Inszenierungen Gustav Adolfs wurden zumeist mit der Miles christianus-Thematik in Verbindung gebracht. Basierend auf einem ausgewählten Bestand zeitgenössischer illustrierter Flugblätter, die allesamt der Flugblatt-Sammlung der Königlichen Bibliothek zu Stockholm entnommen sind, soll der Wandel des publizistischen Bildes des schwedischen Königs zwischen der Landung auf Usedom am 6. Juli 1630 bis zu seinem Tod im Zuge der Schlacht bei Lützen am 16. November 1632 – und auch darüber hinaus – dargestellt werden. In der Flugblatt-Forschung herrscht darüber Konsens, dass Gustav Adolf ab 1634 – spätestens ab 1635 – nicht mehr Teil der protestantischen Publizistik war. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird jedoch diskutiert, ob das publizistische Bild des schwedischen Königs nicht noch länger Eingang in die protestantische Publizistik fand, als bisher vermutet wurde. So ist bemerkbar, dass die schwedische Fraktion bzw. das schwedische Königreich in der (pro)schwedischen Publizistik mit dem Jahr 1633 oft in Form eines Löwen dargestellt wurde. Dies hängt sicherlich zum Teil mit der heraldischen Übereinstimmung des schwedischen Wappens zusammen, kann aber auch auf einen bewusst gewählten Rückgriff auf die Löwendarstellung des schwedischen Königs, beruhend auf der paracelsischen Prophezeiung rund um den »Löwen aus Mitternacht«, zurückgeführt werden. Auf die Analyse folgt ein Katalog, der die in dieser Arbeit analysierten Flugblätter abbildet. Hierbei werden einerseits die Scans der ausgewählten Flugblätter dargestellt, während andererseits wortgetreue Transkriptionen angeführt werden. Die Wichtigkeit der Anlegung dieses Kataloges ergibt sich auf zwei Ebenen. Zum einen wurde dieser Flugblatt-Bestand noch nie in einem eigenständigen Katalog aufgearbeitet. Zum anderen wurde mit dem Katalog auf methodischer Ebene komplettes Neuland betreten. Hierbei wäre es im Sinne der Flugblatt-Forschung wünschenswert, dass die verschiedenen Nationalbibliotheken künftig die Transkriptionen der illustrierten Flugblätter online zur Verfügung stellen, um den interessierten NutzerInnen ein detailliertes und schnelleres Quellenstudium zu ermöglichen.

From the moment on the Swedish king Gustavus Adolphus (1594–1632) landed with his troops on the northern German island of Usedom on July 6th 1630 the pro-Swedish and Swedish publicists and propagandists started to intensify the publication of illustrated broadsheets. The Swedish king was above all depicted as a militarily strong general, an ancient and Old Testament hero figure, as the Lion of the North and even as a physician. These graphic accounts of Gustavus Adolphus were often combined with the publicistic stylistic device of the Miles Christianus.
Based on the broadsheet-collection of the National library of Sweden (Kungliga biblioteket; literally translated as The Royal Library) the change of the publicistic image of the Swedish king, between his landing at Usedom on July 6th 1630 and his death on November 16th 1632 at the battlefield of Lützen and later, will be discussed. Many modern historians who work with illustrated broadsheets maintain that Gustavus Adolphus was only present in protestant popular press until around 1634/35. Thereafter, protestant authors and propagandists didn’t refer to him in their broadsheets. However, in this paper it is posited that the Swedish king was indeed present in protestant propaganda for a longer period than has been heretofore assumed.
In addition to an analysis of the illustrated broadsheets, an original catalogue depicting the illustrated broadsheets was created. The importance of this new kind of catalogue is twofold. Firstly, the collection of illustrated broadsheets of the National library of Sweden has not yet been analysed and published as an independent catalogue. Secondly, this catalogue contains verbatim transcriptions of the illustrated broadsheets and has thereby broken new ground. It would be worthwhile for national libraries to provide these verbatim transcriptions of their collections of illustrated broadsheets. This would facilitate future research of illustrated broadsheets and even make more detailed analysis possible.

The exhibition New Italian Art opened in Stockholm in March 1953, arranged by Franco Albini and Franca Helg. Organized between the IX and X Triennale, this event remains little known today by the Italian audience, although it can be considered the result of specific choices related to the previous Italian exhibitions in Sweden. The 1953 exhibition is considered as an opportunity to analyse the renewed culture of the post-war period and the richness of the plots that intersected between the Italian and Swedish art scene, in particular on the relationship between industrial product and craftsmanship.
The exhibition proposed to the Nordic public a combination of everyday objects and art pieces, set up within a simple and ethereal architecture, which conveyed the image of a modern, industrial Italy, but always firmly supported by the continuity of its artistic and artisan tradition.
The sources come from the researches, carried out during my doctoral thesis, between the Swedish and the Italian archives.

The Stockholm School of Economics and Invest Stockholm release the third Stockholm FinTech Report today, which examines investments, the talent pool, and trends. This report reviews disclosed investments, assesses insights into the review of 3069 LinkedIn profiles of FinTech employees and provides interviews with 13 regional market leaders.

The Stockholm FinTech Report 2018 visualises, organises, as well as reflects upon changes since the last report, published in 2016. As of 2018, the FinTech Regional Ecosystem in Stockholm is considerably far more than just payments between users or lending brokerages. Not only has the types of services, products and technology gotten more sophisticated, the development of new Financial Service Startups has impacted the way in which business has been done.

Numerous traditional financial players, regulators, dedicated co-working spaces, academic centres, and investors have worked towards regional FinTech synergy on different levels. The establishment of the Swedish FinTech Hub, the creation of the FinTech Innovation Centre by the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority, or the creation of study fields related to FinTech by academic institutions has fuelled further development.

We just still miss a couple of puzzle pieces in our digital ecosystem like a national FinTech agenda similar to Singapore and potential sandboxes models for companies” – says Michal Gromek, researcher at the Department of Marketing and Strategy at the Stockholm School of Economics.

Cтатья посвящена шлему Ивана Грозного — одному из наиболее известных памятников защитного вооружения, сохранившихся от эпохи Рюриковичей. В работе поставлен ряд источниковедческих
и методологических вопросов, связанных с изучением владельческой и псевдоарабской надписей на шлеме, а также с особенностями декоративного оформления и метрических параметров шлема. Анализируя ключевые признаки, лежащие в основе атрибуции предмета, и рассматривая существующие концепции, связанные с вопросами его датировки, происхождения и предназначения, автор констатирует противоречивость и недостаточность научных знаний об этом памятнике и невозможность его корректной атрибуции на данном историографическом этапе. Автор выдвигает предположение о том, что шлем Ивана Грозного был редекорирован и золотой декор на нем относится к более позднему времени, чем сам шлем, и предлагает пересмотреть устоявшиеся в научной традиции
выводы об этом предмете. ****** The article is devoted to the helmet of Ivan the Terrible, one of the most well-known piece of armour, which has survived to our days since the time of the Rurik dynasty. The article deals with a number of issues of source criticism and methodology regarding the study of the possessory and pseudo Arabic inscriptions on the helmet, as well as the particularities of its decorative design and physical characteristics (size, weight). On the basis of the analysis of the key features for the attribution of the helmet and the existing concepts concerning its dating, provenance and the intended purpose, the author points out the inconsistency and the lack of scientific data on the monument, which makes it impossible to attribute it correctly at present.
The author hypothesizes that the helmet of Ivan the Terrible was redecorated, and that its gilded decoration dates back to a later period than the helmet itself. The author suggests that the traditional scholarly views on the helmet of Ivan the Terrible should be reconsidered.

" Att låta sig föras av strömmen och ändå komma ihåg att jag är en liten, liten del i allt det här myllret ". Så beskriver en kvinna född 1987 upplevelsen av att " bli stockholmare ". Hennes erfarenheter känns igen från andra berättelser om mötet med storstaden och vägen till en ny, urban identitet. Det är ett möte präglat av föreställningar kring staden och dess invånare som innebär både förväntningar och farhågor, och som för alla på ett eller annat sätt kommer att pränta sig in i självbilden. I alla tider har människor lockats av livet i städer. Stockholm är inget undantag. Såväl under perioder av tillväxt och ekonomisk expansion, som under ofredsår och svält, har folk sökt sig till stora och folkrika platser. Vore det inte för inflyttarna skulle befolkningen i Stockholm rent av ha minskat under perioder av sjukdomar och krig, då fler dog än föddes i staden. Men också under goda år har inflyttarna stått för den största delen av folkökningen. Under 1800-talets industrialisering och urbanisering ökade befolkningen från 65 000 till 300 000 när 1900-talet inträdde. Vid tiden kring vårt senaste millennieskifte uppgick Stockholms befolkning till 750 000 personer, och människor flyttar alltjämt till staden. Att söka arbete – eller överlevnadsmöjligheter över huvud taget – har historien igenom varit avgörande skäl till att bryta upp och dra till folkrika och expansiva platser. För andra har kärleken styrt. Men lika ofta tycks inflyttarna, nu som då, ha varit vägledda av föreställningar kring stadens möjligheter också i andra avseenden. Staden som fysisk plats har så länge den funnits också genererat uppfattningar och idéer om platsens frigörande potential som både löfte och hot. " Stockholmaren " är således ofta – men långt ifrån alltid – en människa som vuxit upp någon helt annanstans än i just Stockholm. Book chapter appeared in 'Cultural Memories of Nonviolent Struggles: Powerful Times', Anna Reading & Tamar Katriel (eds.), Palgrave Macmillan (2015). Investigates the so called 'Russell Tribunal', an independent tribunal which accused the US and its allies for crimes against humanity in the war in Vietnam in 1967. It has since been relegated to the peripheries of history.

The analysis is comprehensive of the historic context, information about materials, a brief summary of Geisendorf's works and personal comments I collected from the owners of some houses I visited personally.

The history of the Nobel Prize, since its establishment, interlaces with the history of the public image of science. The aim of this article is to illustrate cinematic scientists, portrayed precisely in their moment of maximum glory. The films and television shows upon which the study is based compose a corpus of 189 media texts. The article identifies three main areas that concern the relation between the Nobel Prize and its audiovisual representations: biopics of real Nobel laureates, the presence of real or fictional Nobel laureates in the film or the show plot, and films and TV series that depict the Nobel ceremony. The article then focuses on four texts that deserve a detailed examination: La fin du monde, The Prize, The Simpsons and The Big Bang Theory. The conclusion compares the representation of the Nobel scientist with general changes in the image of the scientist conveyed by cinema and television.

Masters Thesis:
Sånger för Spökkvarteren: The dissappearance and re-emergance of Stockholm's urban identity through modernization and globalization. This paper is about the three compositions I completed during my Masters project from 2012-2014 at the Royal Music Academy of Sweden, as well as work I began on a gorup of installations and, as the title indicates, the shared subject of all these works in transformations in Stockholm.

Less attention than might be imagined (particularly in the age of the selfie) has been given to how particular consumers appropriate, animate, and embody recognizable cues, referential themes, and repeatable gestures derived from readily available advertising images: what we call "embodied figurative tropes". That consumption practices play a dominant role in constructing, maintaining, and making comprehensible human identity, including gender identity, has been widely suggested (Bourdieu, 2001; Miller 1987). Furthermore, advertising's creation, detailing, and manipulation of visual cues evocative of gender identity is fairly well researched ( Hirschman & Thompson, 1997; Patterson & Elliot, 2002; Schroeder & Borgerson, 1998). Meanwhile, the conceptual link between advertising images and gendered, enacted embodiment in consumer culture remains less explored (Schroeder & Zwick, 2004). Mythologically relevant and culturally coherent brand attributes help explain consumers' attraction to, and desire to appropriate, these (Holt, 2003). Nevertheless, an understanding of the relation between advertising images and human identity as enacted and embodied grounds fundamental issues of product and brand appeal, representational ethics, and cultural change. Of course, alternative understandings of what we call embodiment of advertising images may also prove useful – invoking processes of interplay, interaction, or intertextuality, for example. However, we believe our elaboration highlights otherwise elusive insights around advertising images and enacted embodiment.
In this paper’s pre-Facebook era, we interrogate how an exclusive group of partying consumers, the Stockholm "brats," act out, or perform, their gender identities by embodying traits, poses, and gestures – building blocks of figurative tropes, or pictured persuasive arguments – prominent in and provided by advertisements that exist within their digital consumer environment, including what we call ‘brat brands’.

This article examines the debates and contradictions that surrounded the promotion of congestion pricing proposals in London, Stockholm, and New York City. On the one hand, congestion pricing is a neoliberal urban proposal that seeks to reduce motor traffic in a cordoned area by pricing out certain drivers. On the other hand, the political authorities believe that the success of congestion pricing proposals depends on the degree of redistributive elements regarding spatial mobility that are built into them. Redistribution in the form of improved mass transit provision was proposed in all three cities and was implemented in Stockholm and London. The problem with this political gesture is that neoliberals are lukewarm to redistributive politics and consider spatial mobility to be a matter of capacity and not a right. This means that neoliberal political parties because of their skepticism of redistributive politics, have more difficulties in imposing congestion pricing schemes than Left Parties. The congestion pricing proposal of the New York City failed because it was proposed by a neoliberal city administration without a credible redistributive spatial mobility plan.

The cumulative growth that the market of automobiles has seen since the end of the second world war, has had a major impact on both the way we plan our societies and in the way we live our lives. In Sweden from 1950 to 1960, car-ownership increased five-fold, making it the most car-dense country in Europe at the time – bringing along with it major car-centric urban renewal schemes, such as ‘Norrmalmsregleringen’. In the U.S. concerns about the social and environmental impacts of motorized traffic, sparked an interest in research on the ‘livability of streets’. Donald Appleyard found in 1969 that the resident’s satisfaction with their street characteristics and the amount of friends and acquaintances were inversely proportional to traffic volumes. This helped push the narrative that the advance towards auto-mobility had come at the cost of the social life and urban quality of streets and neigbourhoods. In this thesis, a similar study focusing on the impact that vehicular traffic has on streets livability has been conducted. The study uses the municipality of Stockholm as a case and seeks to answer the research question by the means of online surveys and spatial data. The results suggest that increasing vehicular traffic seems to have a somewhat negative impact on the perception of the livability of streets in Stockholm and that streets with less traffic are generally apt to be more livable according to the categories formulated in the survey. However the findings also suggest that there seems to be a quota of ‘enough’ cars, for which when filled, the effects of traffic seems to wear off, and for some aspects of livability even revert aforementioned trend

The hitherto unknown networks and the impact of the newspaper in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland have not yet been the subject of research. Among others, the journal published many articles concerning the Nordic countries as well as a Swedish-German special issue. On the basis of the editorial archives, the conceptual, performative, spatial and (collective)-biographical dimensions of its political-cultural and transnational articulation is scrutinized. At the same time, support and reception by the German-speaking exiles, Nordic politicians and cultural workers in general is depicted for the time period lasting  from the Munich Agreement in August 1938 to the German invasion of Denmark and Norway in April 1940. In addition to the German-speaking Anti-Hitler Opposition in Scandinavia such as Paul Bromme, Max Hodann, Max Barth and Dallmann himself, transnational cooperation of anti-fascist Intellectuals and politicians are focused. As a consequence, Danish, Norwegian (Wilhelm Rothkopf, Ottesen, Arne Ording, „Rudlang“), Swedish (Rina and Georg Branting, Torgny Segerstedt, Zeth Höglund, Ture Nerman, Arthur Engberg, Volke Aschberg u.a.) and Finnish supporters of the journal (K.H. Wiik, Bruno Kalnins, Sundquist) emerge in a new context. Ultimately, the mixed balance sheet of the Zukunft networks in the Nordic countries is also critically analysed, especially the problem of the effectiveness of antifascism in the Nordic countries and in Europe as a whole. Nevertheless, some remarkable efforts for anti-fascist (and later anti-Stalinist) media coverage and campaigns were accomplished by the Zukunft, highlighting Internationalism and internationalist principles. The centrality of the German (and later Swedish) citizen Günter Dallman as the Zukunft’s representative in the Nordic countries, and specially in Sweden, is highlighted and introduces him as an important, but overlooked mediator between Nordic and European anti-fascist intellectual and political networks.  SEE MORE OF THE ABSTRACT IN THE PDF

ABSTRACT:

This policy report about the 2nd Edition 2016-2017 of the MSC in Global Sustainable Cities, entitled ‘Global Sustainable City-Regions,’ covers the work developed jointly by the lecturer, Dr Igor Calzada, MBA, as the editor of the publication and students/participants of the second edition of the MSc from September to December 2016 at the Institute for Future Cities in the Business Faculty at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow (Scotland – UK).

Specifically, this policy report follows a two-sequential-module structure:

• The first module, entitled ‘Global Cities: Sustainability and Society,’ consists of six methodological units.
• Thereafter, the second module, entitled ‘Public Policy, Governance and Strategic Change in Cities,’ consists of five methodological units.

The policy report focuses on three urban global issues in a comparative basis. The MSc was developed in a team-based dynamic by applying qualitative action research methodologies to understand and interpret each case and to benchmark and contrast with other cases that addressed the same global urban issue.

The cases were selected jointly by the lecturer and the students/participants in a dynamic process in order to achieve a suitable selection of cases that would allow them to:

• arrange groups around one specific global urban issue,
• compare cases around the same specific urban issue, and
• produce a full case study by applying the two-sequential-module methodology.

As a result, the following three global urban issues and seven Global Sustainable City-Region case studies were selected. Each student/participant worked on each of them, as follows:

This study makes use of a dataset recently collected among young people in Stockholm, Sweden (N = 1122), to investigate the impact of fear on young people's mobility and precautionary behaviour, after controlling for previous victimization as well as situational characteristics of daily trips. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and logistic regression models underlie the methodology of the study. Previous victimization, especially for sexual crimes, triggers precautionary behaviour among young people using trains and the metro. Signs of poorly maintained transit environments also affect young riders' mobility patterns, as they state that they avoid particular stations or routes at particular times. Informed by principles of environmental criminology and the theory of fear of crime, the implications of the findings for both theory and practice are discussed.

Från och med att den svenska kungen Gustav II Adolf (1594–1632) hade landat med sin svenska här på den nordtyska ön Usedom den 6 juli 1630 intensifierade de prosvenska och svenska publicisterna utgivning av illustrerade flygblad. I dessa flygblad avbildades den
svenska kungen för det mesta som en militärisk kraftfull fältherre, en hjälte tagen ur den grekiska mytologin eller det gamla testamentet, ”lejonet från Norden” eller till och med som läkare. I flygbladspropagandan framställdes Gustav II Adolf oftast som en kristen krigare, även kallad miles christianus.
I denna uppsats behandlas bilden av Gustav II Adolf inom illustrerade flygblad. Det har jobbats med en egen sammanställd samling av samtida illustrerade flygblad. Dessa flygblad finns alla på Kungliga biblioteket i Stockholm och är förtecknade i den så kallade Snoilskykatalogen. Baserat på denna samling har den ikonografiska utvecklingen av Gustav II Adolf, mellan hans landstigning på Usedom den 6 juli 1630 och hans död i samband med slaget vid Lützen den 16 november 1632 och därefter, arbetats fram.
Enligt rådande konsensus inom forskningen av flygblad förblev Gustav II Adolf fram till 1634 – maximalt till 1635 – en del av den protestantiska publicistiken. I denna uppsats diskuteras möjligheten att den svenska kungen trots allt förblev en del av denna ännu längre
än vad man tidigare hållit för givet.

Mats Franzéns, Nils Herttings och Catharina Thörns "Stad till salu handlar" om ”entreprenörsurbanismen” och dess förutsättningar, strategier och konsekvenser. Författarna inleder med att placera företeelsen i dess historiska – ”postfordistiska” – sammanhang och fördjupar sig sedan i fyra konkreta exempel på urban politik och praktik: omgestaltningen av delar av stadskärnan i Stockholm och Göteborg samt klotterpolicyn i respektive stad.

"On dynastic helmets, chichaks and caps: in response to S. N. Bogatyrev’s article «The helmet of Ivan the Terrible in the context of the court culture»": This article continues the discussion about the helmet of Ivan the Terrible, opened up by the author in the article «The Casus of the helmet of Ivan the Terrible: introducing the problem». The author sheds light on the new facts about the object in question, clarifies some previously stated arguments and suppositions as well as responses to the comments made by the author’s main opponent S. N. Bogatiyrev,
whose article «The helmet of Ivan the Great in the context of the court culture», published in the last issue, reflects his viewpoint. The author takes issue with the main argument of S. Bogatiyrev’s hypothesis that the helmet of Ivan the Terrible is related to «the dynastic helmets of the heirs», which date back to the time of Ivan II Ivanovich the Fair as well as to the Mongol and Turkiс traditions of the representation of the supreme
power. According to the author, this supposition is based on the misinterpreted similarity between the words «chichak» and «shishak» in the Russian medieval studies, which should be reconsidered in the light of the arguments of turkologists that the word «chichak» does not denote a helmet, but a piece of jewellery in the shape of a flower. The author also doubts the rightfulness of perceiving the helmet of Ivan the Terrible in the same way as the helmet of tsarevich Ivan from the Kremlin Armoury as the helmet from Stockholm was not a child’s helmet and did not have any dynastic symbolic significance. The author claims that the decoration of the helmet is not authentic and presumes that it may not have belonged to Ivan the Terrible and such attribution may be no more than a «legend». The main notion of the article is that the helmet of Ivan the Terrible is a unique phenomenon for the Moscovite political tradition which is yet to be interpreted convincingly. ****** Представленная статья является продолжением научной дискуссии о шлеме Ивана Грозного из стокгольмской Королевской оружейной палаты, начатой автором в статье «Казус шлема Ивана
Грозного: к постановке проблемы». В рамках дискуссии автор приводит новые сведения об исследуемом вещественном памятнике, уточняет высказанные ранее тезисы и предположения, а также дает ответ на замечания своего основного оппонента С. Н. Богатырева, точка зрения которого отражена в его статье «Шлем Ивана Грозного в контексте придворной культуры»,  публикованной в предыдущем номере. Автор критикует основное положение гипотезы С. Н. Богатырева о том, что шлем Ивана Грозного относится к «династическим шлемам наследников»,  существование которых восходит ко времени правления Ивана Красного, а также к монгольской и тюркской традициям репрезентации верховной власти. Такая гипотеза основана на ошибочном, по мнению автора, отождествлении слов «чичак» и шишак» в отечественной медиевистике и должна быть пересмотрена с учетом аргументов тюркологов о том, что «чичак» ― это не шлем, а ювелирное украшение в форме цветка. В статье также высказано сомнение в правомерности рассмотрения шлема Ивана Грозного в одном символическом ряду со шлемом царевича Ивана из московской Оружейной палаты, поскольку стокгольмский шлем не является детским и не несет на себе никакой династической символики. Автор высказывает предположение о том, что декоративное оформление стокгольмского шлема не является аутентичным и допускает, что принадлежность предмета Ивану Грозному может оказаться не более, чем «легендой». Основная мысль статьи заключается в том, что шлем Ивана Грозного является феноменом, который не имеет аналогов в московской политической традиции и который пока не нашел убедительного научного объяснения.
