Through a sample of 119 travel agencies located in Catalonia (Spain), this study establishes the existence of three different profiles of agencies defined by their managers' corporate social responsibility (CSR) motivations (Management, Altruism, and Customers factors). These profiles present diverse business characteristics and different CSR behavior. In this regard, belonging to the Altruism factor is correlated with the implementation of three types of CSR measures (environmental, social, and economic).

Research on sustainability in the tourism sector has been focused in recent years on large accommodation companies. Although diverse studies analyse the impact of sustainability in large tour-operators, this topic has not been sufficiently analysed in the case of small and medium-sized agencies, which are an important part of this sector's structure. Through a sample of nearly 120 companies, this study demonstrates the importance of economic motivations but also personal and legitimizing drivers to conform three different intermediaries' profiles whose sustainable behaviour differs. The aim of this paper is to debate the IT concept from the perception different agents of the tourism sector have about it and to see to what extent there is agreement or disagreement in the definition of the concept itself, its influence on the competitive improvement of destinations and future trends. In short, it intends to analyze the potential, but also to understand the risks and main challenges that the incorporation of IT can cause over current destinations. The work procedure involves asking experts in the tourism sector and in the academic world about the different thematic areas on IT and ITD: the definition of the concept and the welfare of its evolution in the immediate future, the characteristics and components of an ITD system, the role of the technological components in an ITD, the linking of IT with sustainability, the limits and risks of IT display, and the determinants and conditionings that destinations have for the development of IT strategies. The collected inf...

The perceived risk of tourists’ use of smartphones is a key issue in shaping the tourist experience in terms of sustainability, as it can affect the behaviour of tourists and influence their satisfaction with that experience. However, little empirical research exists on the relationship between tourists’ risk perception and the perceived value of mobile device usage. This paper measures the association between tourists’ perceived risk of mobile device usage and several variables that demonstrate the perceived usefulness of mobile devices: utility, hedonic value and future intention of use. A survey on tourists’ use of smartphones was conducted in 2016 and, by means of a cluster analysis, four groups of tourists were identified with significant differences in their perception of the risk and use value of smartphones. Differences between tourists suggest that a single digital tourist profile does not exist and that tourism destinations and smart tourism DMOs (destination marketing org...

------------------------------------------------------------------- In this paper we analyze the papers presented at the eight editions of TURITEC conference held between 1999 and 2010.We have sorted systematically the information on the entities that have made the presentations , the content covered and the subject area under study. The result of this analysis shows that the study of ICT applied to tourism has treated a wide thematic range. This work has been carried out mainly by the university, but also R & D institutes and other public and private tourism knowledge organizations have contributed with their papers to the TURITEC conference. The analysis also shows a low level of collaboration between the universities and other sector bodies. The growing interest and application of ICT in theTourism calls for greater collaboration between the academia, the industry, both in ICT and in tourism, and the public administration. This would establish the foundation to stimulate innovation in this field with the ultimate aim of improving the competitiveness of Spain as a tourist destination and of the companies involved in the sector.""

Purpose There is little knowledge to date regarding the influence of the COVID-19 health crisis on tourists' intention to travel differently in the future. This paper addresses this and explores its determinants. The objective of the present study is to determine to what extent the Spanish tourists affected by COVID-19 may change the way they travel in the future, according to the perceived risk of travel in a pandemic context. Design/methodology/approach Between May and June 2020, the authors conducted a survey with a sample population of Spanish tourists who were resident in Spain during the COVID-19 pandemic, for the purposes of studying the role of attitudes and risk in the intention to change the way they want to travel in the future. Cluster analysis and one-way ANOVA were conducted to assess differences among the respondents. Finally, some models were built using the linear regression technique in order to evaluate the role of attitudes in the tourists' adaptive respo...

We present an e-learning project based on the application of Augmented Reality (AR) to teach cultural heritage. Its main aim is to add value to spots of cultural and natural heritage, such as the landscape, by design and building geolocated strategic heritage and tourism AR content for recreational landscape areas. In such a project, it is particularly interesting to reach a transverse understanding of these spots and its potential use. In this sense, AR promotes different aspects of knowledge to be used in different areas, such as teaching, environment, museums, researching, learning, creating, or recreating (Arnold & Geser (2007); Schmalstieg & Wagner (2007); Dunleavy, Dede & Mitchell (2008)). In fact, there are different dimensions of AR that can be applied to the enhancement of the landscape and heritage as shown in Carreras (2009). To achieve this goal, students learn how to use free software tools to structure and create publicly available AR information for mobile devices. Du...

All forms of social organization that have existed throughout human history have satisfied human needs in diferent ways. That is, they have given different answers to the three basic questions considered by Economics: “what to produce?”, “how to produce it?” and “for whom to produce it?” The only trait that all forms of social organization have in common is their consideration of enterprises as the basic unit of production for goods and services.

This article contributes to the analysis of the relationship between urban renewal processes and sustainable development in mature beach destinations and the adoption of smart tourism. It takes as its case study Spanish destinations taking part in publicly-funded projects and plans designed to convert them into so-called “smart destinations” (SD). Its chief goals are to identify, through the Delphi technique, the smart tourism narrative behind the drive for creating SD, as well as to see how good a fit this is with the strategic positionings of mature destinations seeking to halt their decline or take on a new lease of life by introducing sustainability measures. Based on a review of the existing literature, we perform a critical analysis of this narrative to expose the contradictions arising when it is applied as a tool for urban renewal based on the implementation of sustainability strategies. The results aid with progress in two directions. Firstly, the article contributes new co...
