Dispositive

Il filmmaking terapeutico è uno strumento che può essere utilizzato in ambito educativo e terapeutico per implementare e sviluppare le abilità sociali e relazionali di bambini e adolescenti con Disturbo dello Spettro Autistico (ASD). Recenti ricerche illustrano l'efficacia degli strumenti audiovisivi e delle arti terapie nella gestione dei comportamenti disfunzionali di questa categoria di persone, soprattutto se coinvolgono coetanei. Il caso discusso in questo articolo è parte di un progetto sperimentale che ha l'obiettivo di promuovere l'uso degli strumenti audiovisivi nel supporto di minori con ASD. Nello specifico sarà illustrato l'utilizzo del filmmaking terapeutico in una coppia di adolescenti con ASD e i principali cambiamenti comportamentali che hanno caratterizzato il loro percorso, con l'obiettivo di promuovere nuove modalità d'intervento non unicamente basate sulla modifica di comportamenti disfunzionali ma che valorizzino lo sviluppo identitario e i punti di forza del minore con ASD, attraverso la creatività e la relazione con i pari.

Cosa facciamo oggi con le immagini? E soprattutto, che cosa le immagini fanno con noi e di noi? Questo libro cerca una risposta mediante l’analisi di cinque dispositivi (più uno): gli smart glasses, le camere a cam-po di luce, i visori notturni, la realtà aumentata, le reti neurali e la fotomicrografia elettronico-digitale. Le immagini computazionali, chiamate in queste pagine algoritmi, nascono dalla connessione di risorse apparte-nenti alla economia politica della luce e del visuale con quelle proprie dell’economia della informazione e dei dati. Algoritmi che sono, insieme,  oggetti e strumenti della produzione, estrazione e distribuzione delle ri-sorse comuni, al punto che  “capitale algoritmico” è il nome il più appropriato per definire i tratti costitutivi della società post-mediale.

La notion de dispositif est déterminante dans l’analytique foucaldienne de la société. Et pourtant, son étude demeure négligée par la réception internationale. Après avoir discuté brièvement des difficultés rencontrées avec la traduction du terme de dispositif par Dreyfus et Rabinow dans Beyond Structuralism and Hermeneutics, l’article développe une analytique sociale à partir de la pensée « dispositionelle » de Foucault. L’esquisse de l’histoire du terme de dispositif permettra, en outre, de mieux saisir la pertinence de son usage par Foucault.

This article advances the ‘dispositive’ (le dispositif) as a key conception in Foucault’s work. As developed in his annual lectures in 1978 and 1979, the dispositive represents a crucial constituent of societal analysis on par with the familiar analytics of power/knowledge and the governmentality perspective – indeed it forms a lesser known intermediary between these. Foucault’s dispositional analysis articulates a history of connected social technologies that we have constructed to relate to each other. Expounding these points, the article distinguishes various dispositional prototypes and develops key ‘socio-ontological’ implications of the analysis. Reinstating the proper analytical status of the dispositive contributes to the reception of the important notion; the interpretation of Foucault’s entire oeuvre; and a resourceful approach to the study of contemporary societal problems.

The present working paper represents an earlier version of our article “Foucault’s dispositive: The perspicacity of dispositive analytics in organizational research”, reviewed and published by Organization (Sept. 17, 2014; DOI: 10.1177/1350508414549885). We have chosen to distribute it since this paper, compared to the later, thoroughly revised article, presents more details pertaining to Foucault’s use of the dispositive as an analytical concept, as well as a number of the more general implications of this type of historico-philosophical social analytics. By contrast, the article published by Organization demonstrates that dispositional analytics allows for a new inerpretation and use of Foucault in relation to organization studies. It shows how dispositional analytics leads the way beyond general periodizations and established dichotomies such as the either-or of the discursive and the non-discursive, power and freedom, determinism and agency; and it articulates how dispositional analytics can contribute to a more complex understanding of organizational dynamics, power, strategy, resistance, and cirtique.

This paper performs a 'concentric dispositif analysis' on Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar' in order to demonstrate how this new method can be successfully implemented for further research. The paper explores the theological content within the film and analyses the 'layers' that compose the manifestation.

In the view of Deleuzian IR scholars, societal steering evolved from analogue disciplining of static enclosures into network-centric, privatised, digital and global control. This article re-engages the control thesis from a decidedly empirical security studies perspective. In the age of globalisation and urbanisation, technological innovation and liberal policy ideals, how are security apparatuses reorganised, and in what relations do they stand to local societal and political orders? The article argues that the Deleuzian framework indeed proposes an impressively rich, integrative and topical research agenda – but also that its security studies applications are surprisingly incomplete and insufficiently differentiated. With a view to vindicating its analytical potential, the article first systematises the control thesis. It then employs a spatial and empirical heuristic to enquire into the securing of three distinct urban spaces – a site of mobility, a public square and a place of mass commerce –, and to illustrate the actual (re-)configuration of contemporary security management. Forgoing articulation of universalisms about societal steering, the article makes the case for more nuanced engagements with security ensembles, their technological evolution, relations with democratic ideals, globalisation and de-territorialisation both in and beyond Western polities.

The article proposes a semiotic interpretation of the concept of bio-politics. Instead of a politics that takes "life itself " as its object and, as a result, separates life as an object from subjects, biopolitics is read as subjectification-a governmental rationality that constructs social ways of being and forms of life, that is, social subjectivities. The article articulates this position on the basis of two concepts: Jakob von Uexküll's umwelt and Michel Foucault's dispositive. While the former makes it possible to show that the process of life can be conceptualized as subjectification, the latter enables us to argue against an interpretation of biopolitics as a totalized structure of power intervening directly, without semiotic mediation, into "life itself ".

Abstract: This paper presents some of the main Michel Foucault’s concepts. One of the leading thinkers of the 20th century, Michel Foucault has written dozens of articles and books addressing topics such as power, madness, sexuality, truth, social control, what is considered normal and pathological, among others. In the first part of this article, I present some historical facts that have influenced Foucault's life. In the second part, I explain some of his main concepts, such as: dispositive, genealogy of knowledge, truth, episteme, sexuality, body, among others.

The article explores Michel Foucault’s concept of dispositive (dispositif) through which Foucault conceptualized relations of power in their practice as networks of potentia­lities and attempted to map their shifting historical strategic and tactical intentions. It shows how the concept emerged from the web of French theoretical discussions in the late 60’s and early 70’s and from the new networks of radical practical social research and action. Then it traces the strategic and tactic role of this conceptualization in those discussions and actions and in Foucault’s own new conceptualization of the power. It reveals the historical fields of thought and the networks of potentialities which made the new conceptualization itself possible and shows how the concept functioned in these fields and how it was transformed together with them. It shows how it was constantly renovated and in the end abandoned following the alterations in Foucault’s own strategic and tactic intentions. In this way the article makes a new reading of Foucault’s thought and its transformations from the perspective of the changing power relations and their practice. Lastly, the article demonstrates the influence of this conceptualization in contemporary thought and asks, does it still have a relevance that might even be quite the opposite of the expected.

This article is an examination of the various ambivalences, limitations and dilemmas that are associated with the internal whistleblowing hotline-which is conceptualized as a management technique that strives to contain, codify, constrain, standardize, and neutralize acts of speaking up against illegal or unethical practices. In other words the interest is on what happens when the critical practice of whistleblowing or 'speaking truth to power' is sought institutionalized and transformed into a practice of 'speaking truth through power'-that is, through the managerial instrument of the whistleblowing hotline. The article argues that the Foucauldian concept of dispositive can help explain how a seemingly expedient and pragmatic technique such as the whistleblowing hotline, is in fact riddled with complexity and contradiction, which in turn creates a series of dilemmas and limitations related to aim and function the hotline. The analysis thus shows how the internal whistleblowing hotline can take different forms depending on the dispositive permeating it. Empirically, the analysis is based on descriptions of the use and function of internal whistleblowing hotlines in a Danish context.

Tesis doctoral (defendida en 2013. Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona). Se plantea la importancia de la materialidad en objetos que tienen relevancia para pensar y analizar procesos de economización. Se recurre a la noción de objetos-máquina como dispositivos que hacen posible el ensamblaje de de elementos heterogéneos en procesos de valoración económica. En tales procesos participan dispositivos con capacidad de agenciamiento para que el valor se pueda traducir en precios y así lograr la mercantilización de objetos. Pero el proceso que potencia y sostiene el valor del objeto requiere de otras perspectivas, como las teorías sobre la magia, a fin de comprender cómo los dispositivos logran ser eficientes. Se propone analizar el objeto competencias como un dispositivo que aísla el trabajo humano como capacidad que sólo puede operar como recurso humano en el nuevo contexto de la empleabilidad. Las competencias son un dispositivo capaz de "hace querer" en cada individuo lo que se espera del "homo competens". Se hace el análisis del funcionamiento del objeto-competencias en el caso del nuevo modelo de educación universitaria, la formación por competencias, que se ha implementado en España a partir del proceso de Bolonia. El análisis de la formación por competencias permite comprender el proceso por el cual se produce valoración economizada de las competencias en el aprendizaje a partir de la mediación de la acción docente. Se trata de un proceso que tiene unas características de cuasi-ritual mágico y de conjuro en el origen de la valoración de las competencias y que posteriormente deriva en una medición que opera por procedimientos de nominación, ordenación y escalas numéricas rudimentarias, que generan las condiciones para traducir el valor cualitativo en valor de tipo numérico y susceptible de fijarse en precios. Cuando la valoración adquiere características de mesura, se generan las condiciones para la mercantilización de las competencias en el modelo de Bolonia, aunque también se produce la dilución de los uso de cuasi-magia en la valoración de las competencias. Con todo, el dispositivo ejerce su capacidad de "hacer prometer" que seremos competentes para la empleabilidad.

This essay discusses the concept of “dispositive” in Foucault’s analysis of power and in Agamben’s biopolitics. Although Agamben thinks his “dispositive” starting from the Foucault’s definitions, his reconstruction brings him to very different outcomes, in line with his metaphysical interpretation of biopolitical issues. Different epistemological premises and distinct concepts of “dispositive” mean different ways of thinking an emancipation from their capture: Agamben aims to recapture the integrality of life by means of the notion of “forma-di-vita”, whereas Foucault thought of the ancient example of parrhesia, the courage to embody the truth even at the risk of life.

Si affronta il concetto di «dispositivo» attraverso l’analisi della relazione con i suoi antecedenti
nel pensiero foucaultiano: «formazione discorsiva» e «positività». Definito il dispositivo come una
‘rete’ destinata a incrinarsi e superarsi, si chiarisce la teoria di questi punti di frattura attraverso le
riflessioni sui tempi storici di Koselleck e Ricoeur. L’iniziativa (o «forza del presente») che permette
a un sistema di trasformarsi è individuata, nell’ambito della critica letteraria, in una complessa
funzione-autore, luogo di congiunzione e conflitto di un’ontologia delle intenzioni e
un’ontologia degli eventi. Utilizzando i concetti di dispositivo e di funzione-autore si rilegge una
delle più grandi opere critiche del XX secolo: Mimesis di Erich Auerbach. (Data di pubblicazione: 2010; Rivista: Enthymema).

Wenn wir von einem strukturalen Begriff der Bildung ausgehen, wie ihn Marotzki und Jörissen (2009) vertreten, lassen sich die durch Mediennutzung re-formierten Selbst- und Weltverhältnisse als Bildungsprozesse deuten. Eine Mikroanalyse medialer Dispositive bietet einen methodischen Rahmen für eine subjekt- und machttheoretisch motivierte Analyse konkreter Medienangebote mit dem Ziel, diese auf ihre Bildungspotenziale zu untersuchen. Dies soll an einem exemplarischen Medienangebot veranschaulicht werden. Es handelt sich dabei sowohl um ein Medien-Dispositiv, wie auch um das Dispositiv einer Regierungskunst (Foucault 2000):
Im April 2012 stellte die Tiroler Landesregierung ein Open (Governmental) Data Portal  online. In Kategorien wie Politik und Verwaltung, Bevölkerung, Umwelt, Sport und Freizeit stehen vorwie-gend tabellarische Datenbestände, die „für Recherchen, aber auch zur aktiven Weiterverwendung und Weiterverarbeitung“ genutzt werden können. Als Ziele für das Land Tirol werden „mehr Transparenz und Innovations- bzw. Wirtschaftsförderung“  genannt. Während die Öffnung der Datenbestände Transparenz signalisiert (Wirklichkeit wird gezeigt), wird – so die Annahme – ver-deckt, inwieweit die Beschreibungen durch Kategoriensysteme und zugeordneten Zahlenreihen Selbst- und Weltverhältnisse hervorbringen und festschreiben (Wirklichkeit wird hergestellt).
Die Modellierung des Medienangebots als Dispositivs gestaltet den empirischen Zugang zu Macht-effekten zumindest zweifach: zum einen als strukturelle Beschreibung des Medienangebots selbst und die Analyse der darin „disponierten Subjekte“ (vgl. Link 2007); zum anderen in der Untersu-chung konkreter ent-subjektivierender Praktiken (Lüders 2007) in Form von kritisch-reflexiver Nutzung, Aneignung und Umdeutung. Durch die Kreuzung dieser Perspektivierungen soll das Me-dienangebot auf Bildungspotenziale und -prozesse befragt werden. Die Diskussion über die me-thodische Vorgehensweise soll entlang der folgenden Fragehorizonte angestoßen werden:
• Wie sinnvoll ist es, im Fall einzelner, konkreter Medienangebote von medialen Dispositiven im Foucault'schen Sinne zu sprechen, wenn kein 'Notstand' im engeren Sinne feststellbar ist und es sich eher um eine taktische als eine strategische Anordnung handelt?
• Welche Methoden eignen sich für die (medien-)dispositivanalytisch motivierte Untersu-chung von Subjektivierungs- bzw. Bildungsprozessen in medialen Dispositiven?

Este trabalho investiga como se caracterizam as dinâmicas de distribuição e circulação de séries originais Netflix, buscando compreender em que medida especificam processos de convergência audiovisual. Partimos da descrição do cenário comunicacional em que Netflix emergiu nos anos 1990 para distinguir aspectos midiáticos que caracterizam a companhia contemporaneamente. Tomamos a noção de dispositivo midiático como gesto metafórico para compreender o arranjo midiático configurado por Netflix. Tal recurso metafórico nos auxiliou a compreendê-la como fenômeno de convergência cuja disposição de rede articula os seguintes elementos: a) streaming, b) arquitetura multitelas, c) sistema de recomendação e d) extensão em redes sociais on-line. Relacionamos os aspectos streaming e arquitetura multitelas às dinâmicas de distribuição, e sistemas de recomendação e extensões em redes sociais on-line aos modos de circulação de Netflix. Com base nessa perspectiva, descrevemos as dinâmicas de distribuição e circulação da quarta temporada da série House of Cards. Optamos por esse título, pois a série se estabeleceu como modelo inaugural de produção adaptado às circunstâncias midiáticas de Netflix, modelo esse que se estendeu para as demais produções originais. A coleta de dados, realizada entre 04/03 e 04/04/2016, se restringiu às conexões multitelas do sistema Netflix (acessadas via Site, SmartTV, Smartphone e Tablet) e a seus perfis oficiais no Facebook e no Twitter, levando em conta também os perfis específicos de House of Cards nessas redes sociais on-line. Adotamos técnicas de amostragem aleatória no estudo de caso. Concluímos que as dinâmicas de distribuição de House of Cards são organizadas em prol de acesso instantâneo e razoavelmente homogêneo, o que implica pico de destaque da série nas conexões de Netflix. Já as dinâmicas de circulação se configuram prioritariamente em função daquilo que o sistema Netflix organiza e sugere, em detrimento das preferências dos usuários. Tal estratégia de destaque se estendeu para os perfis no Twitter e no Facebook, nos quais foram realizadas postagens frequentes de conteúdos exclusivos da série. Essas publicações se ajustaram a contextos socioculturais específicos – por exemplo, o cenário político brasileiro – em dinâmicas de apropriação social que extrapolaram o período de lançamento da quarta temporada da série. Caracterizamos a dinâmica de circulação não apenas como convergente, mas também como transmidiática. As dinâmicas de distribuição e circulação de House of Cards são, portanto, complementares, uma vez que convergentes, mas sutilmente distintas, o que torna o arranjo midiático de Netflix heterogêneo, maleável e susceptível às contingências dos contextos sociais, políticos
e culturais que atravessa.

Este artículo se pregunta por la relación entre innovación y educación en un contexto poshumanista. Para este fin, se asume la biopolítica como clave interpretativa y crítica a través del concepto de dispositivo (entendido aquí como mecanismo explicativo), el cual permitirá evaluar las dinámicas del ejercicio del poder, el control y la normalización de la educación a través del discurso de la innovación. De esta manera, se pretende comprender la innovación en educación como una discursividad que establece prácticas concretas para sobrellevar, gobernar y vivir la realidad. Finalmente, se refieren las formas de integración entre innovación y educación en un contexto específico, el poshumanismo, para reflexionar en torno a las funciones de la escuela en este nuevo hábitat humano y plantear las posibilidades de la educación poshumana, en este caso, desde algunos postulados de la pedagogía crítica.

Celem artykułu jest krytyczna refleksja nad pojęciem dyspozytywu u Michela Foucaulta i jego aplikacją do badań społecznych. Dyspozytyw oznacza heterogeniczną kompozycję dyskursywnych i niedyskursywnych elementów rzeczywistości społecznej połączonych dynamicznymi relacjami władzy. Od dwóch dekad w ramach postfoucaultowskiej analizy dyskursu podejmowane są próby operacjonalizacji kategorii dyspozytywu. Jako kategoria analityczna dyspozytyw odnosi się do mechanizmów społecznie rozproszonej władzy, które można badać empirycznie na podstawie danych dyskursywnych i niedyskursywnych. Rezultatem zainteresowania dyspozytywem jest perspektywa badawcza analizy dyspozytywu. W artykule prezentowane są główne założenia tej perspektywy i typologia zastosowań Foucaultowskiej kategorii dyspozytywu w badaniach empirycznych, zilustrowana przykładami prac niemieckich i polskich badaczy. Prezentacji towarzyszy namysł nad niekonsekwencjami i ograniczeniami tego podejścia metodologicznego.

Geschlecht wird noch immer staatlich reguliert. Durch Gesetze, Erlässe und medizinische Richtlinien wird über Körper, Beziehungen und Lebensweisen bestimmt. Aktivist_innen kämpfen seit Jahrzehnten gegen eine solche Regulierung an, doch die binäre Geschlechtervorstellung bleibt weiterhin erhalten. Am Beispiel des österreichischen Transsexuellen-Erlasses (1980-2010) arbeitet Persson Perry Baumgartinger die wirkmächtigen »Reparaturmechanismen« des Zwei-Geschlechter-Dispositivs heraus, welche zur Konservierung des binären Geschlechterverständnisses beitragen.

Resumo: Nos mais diversos âmbitos da internet, a sociedade em geral fala sobre o socius, retrabalhando e ressignificando os diversos sentidos sociais, atualizando-os a novos interagentes sociais e a públicos ainda maiores. Em rede, essa construção de sentido sobre o socius se dá mediante um dispositivo digital próprio. Este artigo resgata algumas reflexões sobre o conceito de dispositivo, para, em um segundo momento, relacioná-lo com o contexto do ambiente digital, a partir das ideias de interface, protocolo e reconexão. Mediante uma reflexão teórico-metodológica, propõe-se, a partir dessa relação, o conceito de dispositivo conexial, que busca articular os âmbitos social, tecnológico e simbólico dos processos comunicacionais em rede. Abstract: In various areas of the Internet, society in general talks about the socius, reworking and resignifying the various social meanings, updating them to new social inter-agents and even to greater publics. In social networks, this construction of meanings on the socius occurs by a specific digital dispositif. This article reflects upon the concept of dispositif, to relate it, in a second moment, with the context of the digital environment, from the ideas of interface, protocol and reconnection. Through a theoretical and methodological reflection, it proposes, from such a relationship, the concept of connectial dispositif, which tries to articulate the social, technological, and symbolic ambits of the networked communication processes.

Das Verhältnis von Eltern und Schule ist aktuell tief greifenden Veränderungen ausgesetzt. Ellen Kollender fragt nach der Rolle, die hierbei migrationsgesellschaftlichen Differenz- und Zugehörigkeitsordnungen zukommt: Wie werden Eltern in politischen Diskursen um Migration, Integration und Bildung positioniert? Welche Zuschreibungen erfahren vor allem türkisch-arabisch-muslimisch gelabelte Eltern in der Schule ihrer Kinder? Und welche Antworten entwickeln die Eltern hierauf? Mit Blick auf Berlin wird rekonstruiert, wie sich im Zuge des neoliberalen staatlichen Wandels rassistische Grenzziehungen verschleiern und neue Einfallstore für Diskriminierung von Eltern entstehen. Die Dispositivanalyse liefert Schlussfolgerungen für eine diskriminierungssensible Entwicklung von Schule als öffentlichem Raum.

This is a review of Urlich Bröckling's book (2017) "Gute Hirten führen sanft. Über Menschenregierungskünste." (which can be roughly translated as: "Good shepherds lead gently. On the arts of governing humans") Bröckling's book collects new essays, as well as already elsewhere published works, which have been revised for this book. On 422 pages the author presents his sociology of governing humans through gouvernementality, which is a worth reading contribution to the governmentality studies. The book is divided into three main sections: Approaches, Dispositives and Critique. In the first part, Bröckling presents his theoretical-methodological approach to topics such as "pastoral power", "governmentality", "anthropology" and the tasks of a "sociology of human gouvernementality-arts". In the second section, Bröckling presents eleven individual analyses on the topics of prevention, resilience, mediation, nudging, feedback, contract pedagogy, competition, burnout, planning, human capital and battlefield research, each of which can be read individually and do not build on oneanother. Finally, Bröckling explores the relationship between sociology and critique. His book can be read as a collection of follow-up studies on the neoliberal form of socialization which he dubbed the 'entrepreneurial self' (Bröckling 2007). He not only continues research in the field of governmentality studies, but also develops exciting theses about their limits and on governing through affects.

Dans le cadre de ce texte, nous avons l’intention d’exposer trois modèles possibles pour le traitement philosophique de la question du sens et du non-sens de la transcendance. Ces trois modèles sont illustrés par trois concepts : analogie, paradoxe et dispositif. Mais ces trois modèles peuvent aussi être mis en relation avec trois approches disciplinaires : théologie naturelle, philosophie de la religion et théologie politique. En effet, ce que nous avons l’habitude de définir comme « philosophie de la religion » ne constitue, au sens strict, qu’une modalité historiquement déterminée d’aborder l’étude philosophique de la transcendance. Mais cette modalité déterminée a une histoire a parte ante ainsi, désormais, qu’une histoire a parte post. Les trois concepts et les trois approches disciplinaires correspondent donc également à des étapes chronologiques, c’est-à-dire à trois phases historiques de ce qu’on peut définir de manière générale – latu senso seulement, mais d’une manière philologiquement non technique – comme « philosophie de la religion ».

Ahhoz azonban elég réginek számít, hogy az alapját képező fegyelmi rendszabályok az intézmények zavartalan működéséhez szükséges mértékben megszilárduljanak és habitualizálódjanak.

Der Beitrag stellt Deleuzes Begriff des Mikrodispositives als Konzept vor, das eth-nomethodologische Videoanalyse mit der Analyse von Subjektivationsprozessen, die durch Dispositive gerahmt werden, verbinden kann. Mikrodispositive stehen nicht in Konflikt mit den Annahmen des methodologischen Situationalismus und erlauben es, die empirische Frage nach dem situierten Hervorbringen von Dispositiven zu stellen. Auf diese Weise soll einerseits die theoretische Voreingenommenheit der Dispositiv-analyse überwunden werden, andererseits die Möglichkeit einer kritischen Thematisie-rung der Gesellschaft, die auf Videoanalyse basiert, eröffnet werden.

In the context of an ongoing change, management is required to take the form of a leadership that must be reignited over and over again. The article examines a new art of leadership that may be viewed as an attempt to keep up with these challenges and stay
ahead of time. It emerges from a pilgrimage leadership learning laboratory on the road to Santiago de la Compostela. This moving lab creates situations of extraordinary intensity that border on hyperreality and force the leader to find him/herself anew on the verge of him/herself. Conceived as pilgrimage, leadership moves ahead of time as it reaches into and anticipates a future still unknown. In this setting, anticipatory affects and the virtual take up a predominant role. As it emerges here, leadership distinguishes itself not only from leadership in the traditional sense, but also from management and governmentality

The camera’s ambivalent role in showing images of public spheres has already been emphasized frequently: as part either of its dispositifs of control and critique. It has thus transformed these socio-political scapes historically by sharing the presence of the focused object. Modes of production and distribution generated by digital technologies draw attention to the role of images in global political processes, and devaluate space and time parameters. The paper focuses on aspects of visuality and countervisuality as coined by Nicholas Mirzoeff, and addresses artistic dealings with media-image policies, taking as a case study the projected images of British artist and filmmaker Steve McQueen, whose images affect the viewer physically with their spatial and acoustic presence. It discusses also Ariella Azoulay’s concept of photography as a “civil contract” and McQueen’s awareness to politics of identification in an “era of disentanglements” (Achille Mbembe) by focusing on the projections  on the black body in a postcolonial and globalized context. Following the movements of photofilmic narration in Steve McQueen’s 7th Nov. and Illuminer (both 2001), the paper focuses on the presence of the human body by creating a gesture which is merely adopting and opening up an experimental arrangement and an alternative thought space.

"Porn as a popular discourse of sexuality, after adopting of significant status in Western culture, has acquired the power to re-/define practices and identities of sex, gender, and desire to a considerable extent. In each video, there exist a variety of discursive elements and strategies, through which the meanings of represented sexual practices, performing subjects and their identities are being framed. Mainstream straight and gay porn, despite numerous shared discursive characteristics, are perceived as specific discourses in this study. Straight porn makes the male body symbolically invisible, while gay porn glorifies it. However, both types of pornography operate as noticeable articulations of masculinity, although with varying degree of explicitness. The analytic part of the study discusses selected analogies and differences in the construction of masculinities and male sexualities. As an example of analogies between the analysed pornographic discourses, the gangbang genre is examined thoroughly. In these videos, socially interlinked group of men shares a common sexual object and the collective celebration of masculinity and male homosocial bonds appears to be more important than the object itself (regardless of its sex/gender). As an example of differences, the representation of male anality is being interpreted. While in the gay porn the male anality is presented as a possible means of achieving pleasure, in the straight porn its potential is significantly repressed (e.g. visual tabooisation of male anus), or the anality is ostentatiously employed for representing a perverse pleasure and/or masculine dominance.

In using the critical term museality in aesthetics of religion, it is our aim in this article to reveal the socio-cultural embeddedness of museums in Western societies and beyond. To do this we draw on two distinct cultural and sociological models of society, dispositive theory and Luhmann's communicational systems theory. Dispositive theory allows us to include non-discursive practices and materialisations in the aesthetic analysis of religious identification strategies mediated through museums and exhibitions. The boundaries, environment and self-referentiality of the system museum are discussed with a view to the shifting place and visibility of religious and secular messages in museum contexts. The focus on museality leads beyond museums to discover object wanderings, religious re-interpretations and museum displays in a number of other socio-cultural fields.
