Eco-Village

This article uses the narrative tool of a walk through Tianjin Eco-City, China, as an entry point in raising and discussing key questions in contemporary eco-city research. Eco-city projects are becoming increasingly prevalent in policy and political-economic discourses in a variety of locations as new urban spaces where blueprints for low carbon economies can be trialled. In light of this, the article highlights the key necessity of, firstly, considering scale when analyzing eco-city ‘futures’. Secondly, the article argues for the need to interrogate eco-cities’ definitions, as well as evaluation, performance and monitoring frameworks, as this will aid in critical analyses of the marketing, presentation and actually built urban environments in eco-city projects. Thirdly, the question of internal social resilience and the emergence of communities within newly-built eco-cities needs to be assessed: this is of crucial importance in light of the exclusive, gated nature of several flagship eco-city projects under construction at the time of writing. Lastly, the article argues that research on eco-city projects needs to consider not only the high-tech, new urban environments materialized as eco-cities, but also the production and reproduction of large, often transient populations of low-paid workers who build eco-cities and who form what the article calls the ‘new urban poor’, forming ‘workers’ cities’ on the edges of flagship ‘sustainable’ urban projects worldwide.

This study looks at the state land use, its six land use zones, development suitability and urban growth boundary, natural disaster and climate change with implication for land use, urban design, and water and sustainability in the State of Airai, Palau.
The focus on location, size, type, quality and phase of development paid attention to land suitability for development, urban design principles & standards, population, employment projections & scenarios, sustainability principles & best management practices and Airai culture & lifestyle, standards and behaviors.  This may lead to implementation of land use & building for the state that, with the input of the Airai Planning Department staff and the Commission, would eventually translate in updated land use legislation.
The criteria for urban development suitability allowed the generation of GIS mapping indicating urban growth areas and the protection of open space for conservation, forest and farming by accounting for two scenarios of tsunami coastal inundation and sea level rise.  Mindful of traditional village pattern the design for urban expansion pay attention to neighborhood scale, and appropriate technology like living machine and solar infrastructure.  The implementation of land use is discussed in terms of economics, exploring labor force, carrying capacity, traditional land use practices and government financing and taxation.
The chairman of the Airai State Planning Commission wrote a letter of appreciation to Minerbi and the students indicating that the Commission found the report substantially useful and significant to the success of the development of Airai State Land Use Plan, cc to the governor, the planner project coordinator, PCS/EBM, and the planning consultant Markline, LLC.

Secara Historis, Desa Wisata Tinalah (Dewi Tinalah) merupakan desa wisata yang mempunyai sejarah perjuangan berdiri tegaknya Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia (NKRI) hingga saat ini. Sekretariat Dewi Tinalah berada di Jl. Persandian Km. 5, Kalurahan (Desa) Purwoharjo, Kapanewon (Kecamatan) Samigaluh, Kabupaten Kulon Progo, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. Di kawasan Dewi Tinalah terdapat situs sejarah yaitu Rumah Sandi yang digunakan oleh para sandiman untuk mengirim berita ke mata dunia bahwa NKRI masih berdiri dan berdaulat hingga sampai PBB saat masa Agresi Militer Belanda II. Dewi Tinalah resmi berdiri pada tanggal 1 Oktober 2013 dari hasil musyawarah yang telah dilaksanakan sejak tahun 2012. Dewi Tinalah mengusung konsep pengembangan desa wisata dengan pesona alam dan budaya berbasis masyarakat. Proses Terbentuknya kawasan Desa Wisata Tinalah (Dewi Tinalah) Terbentuknya Dewi Tinalah tidak terlepas dari peran serta masyarakat dan pemerintah untuk mengembangkan desa dengan program nasional pemberdayaan masyarakat (PNPM) mandiri pariwisata melalui desa wisata (Menteri, 2010). Dengan adanya program ini, masyarakat bersama pemerintah desa melakukan musyawarah untuk melakukan pengembangan dan pemberdayaan masyarakat desa dengan membentuk suatu desa wisata di Purwoharjo. Desa wisata merupakan suatu daerah tujuan wisata atau disebut pula destinasi pariwisata, yang mengintegrasikan daya tarik wisata, fasilitas umum, fasilitas pariwisata, aksesibilitas, yang disajikan dalam suatu struktur kehidupan masyarakat yang menyatu dengan tata cara dan tradisi yang berlaku (UU No. 10, 2009). Program pengembangan desa wisata juga berdasarkan dari perubahan trend cara berwisata. Wisatawan dengan berbagai motivasi melakukan perjalanan wisata ke desa wisata untuk bisa menikmati kehidupan masyarakat, berinteraksi secara aktif dalam berbagai aktivitas di lokasi desa wisata dan juga belajar kebudayaan lokal setempat (Dinpar DIY, 2004: 6). Perubahan trend ini menjadi penting dalam pengembangan desa wisata sebab target wisatawan sudah terbentuk dan ada marketnya sehingga lebih mudah untuk membuat pasar baru pariwisata. Karakter perubahan trend ini karena pariwisata merupakan industri yang sangat makro dan dinamis, wisatawan tidak hanya tertarik pada keindahan alam dan kelengkapan fasilitas, tetapi juga keleluasaan dan intensitas interksi dengan lingkungan dan masyarakat (Permadi, 2018: 34).

Desa atau yang disebut dengan nama lain telah ada sebelum Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia terbentuk. Dalam penjelasan Pasal 18 UUD Tahun 1945 (sebelum amandemen) menyebutkan bahwa telah ada lebih kurang 250 zelfbesturende landschappen dan volksgemeenschappen, seperti Desa di Jawa dan Bali, Nagari di Minangkabau, Dusun dan Marga di Palembang, dan lain sebagainya, dimana daerah ini telah mempunyai susunan asli seperti pemerintahan dan lembaga-lembaga kemasyarakatannya sehingga hal ini dianggap istimewa. Oleh karena itu, Pemerintah Republik Indonesia menghormati kedudukan daerah-daerah tersebut berikut dengan aturan-aturan yang beraku dalam masyarakatnya. Atas dasar tersebut Pemerintah menjamin keberlangsungan hidupnya dalam Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia.
Disadari bahwa keberagaman karakteristik dan jenis Desa, atau sebutan lain, tidak menjadi penghalang bagi para pendiri bangsa (founding fathers) untuk menjatuhkan pilihan pada bentuk negara kesatuan, dimana dalam negara kesatuan menuntut adanya homogenitas. Konstitusi Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia tetap memberikan pengakuan dan jaminan terhadap keberadaan kesatuan masyarakat hukum dan kesatuan masyarakat hukum adat hak tradisionalnya.
Desa Adat pada prinsipnya merupakan warisan organisasi kepemerintahan masyarakat lokal yang dipelihara secara turun-temurun yang tetap diakui dan diperjuangkan oleh pemimpin dan masyarakat Desa Adat agar dapat berfungsi mengembangkan  kesejahteraan dan identitas sosial budaya lokal. Desa Adat memiliki hak asal usul yang lebih dominan daripada hak asal usul Desa sejak Desa Adat itu lahir sebagai komunitas asli yang ada di tengah masyarakat. Desa Adat adalah sebuah kesatuan masyarakat hukum adat yang secara historis mempunyai batas wilayah dan identitas budaya yang terbentuk atas dasar teritorial yang berwenang mengatur dan mengurus kepentingan masyarakat Desa berdasarkan hak asal usul.
Namun demikian, karena kesatuan masyarakat hukum adat yang ditetapkan menjadi Desa Adat melaksanakan fungsi pemerintahan (local self government) maka ada syarat mutlak yaitu adanya wilayah dengan batas yang jelas, adanya pemerintahan, dan perangkat lain serta ditambah dengan salah satu pranata lain dalam kehidupan masyarakat hukum adat seperti perasaan bersama, harta kekayaan, dan pranata pemerintahan adat.

Buku ini disusun berdasarkan hasil kegiatan KKN-PpMM di Desa Kalongsawah selama 32 hari. Ada 11 orang mahasiswa yang terlibat di kelompok ini, yang berasal dari 7 Fakultas yang berbeda. Kami namai kelompok ini dengan SECURAH, dengan nomor kelompok 067. Kami dibimbing oleh Bapak Dedy Nursamsi, S.H. M.Hum., beliau adalah dosen di Fakultas Syariah dan Hukum. Tidak kurang dari 11 kegiatan yang kami lakukan di desa tersebut, yang sebagian besar merupakan pelayanan kepada masyarakat dan sebagian kecilnya adalah pemberdayaan. Dengan fokus pada satu kampung, yaitu Kampung Kalongdagul, kegiatan-kegiatan yang kami lakukan menghabiskan dana sekitar Rp16.700.000,-. Dana tersebut kami dapatkan dari iuran anggota kelompok KKN sebesar Rp1.000.000,- per orang, dana penyertaan Program Pengabdian pada Masyarakat oleh Dosen (PpMD) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Rp5.000.000,-, dan dari hasil pengumpulan dana sebesar Rp700.000,-.
Dari hasil kegiatan yang kami lakukan, terdapat sejumlah keberhasilan yang telah kami raih, yaitu:
1. Meningkatnya peran masyarakat dalam pembangunan desa.
2. Bertambahnya motivasi peserta didik SD, SMP, untuk melanjutkan kuliah.
3. Bertambahnya pengetahuan masyarakat mengenai UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.
4. Bertambahnya pembangunan fisik atau rehabilitasi bangunan, antara lain: Pembangunan Fasilitas Mandi, Cuci dan Kakus (MCK) Umum, Pembangunan Tempat Pembuangan Sampah Sementara (TPS), dan Pengadaan Tiang Penerangan Jalan.
Saat merencanakan dan implementasi kegiatan, terdapat sejumlah kendala yang kami hadapi, antara lain:
1. Kurangnya waktu untuk melakukan konsolidasi dan koordinasi dengan berbagai pihak, baik internal anggota kelompok, dosen pembimbing, pihak sponsor, maupun aparatur desa.
2. Kurangnya dana yang bisa terkumpul untuk memaksimalkan rencana kegiatan yang telah disusun.
3. Sejumlah masyarakat kurang merespons kegiatan kami karena antara satu RT dan yang lainnya tidak kompak dan saling mendukung.

Namun demikian, kami pada akhirnya bisa merampungkan sebagian besar rencana kegiatan kami. Adapun kekurangan-kekurangannya tersebut di antaranya:
1. Ketiadaan tempat pembuangan sementara untuk sampah warga desa yang seharusnya diteruskan ke tempat pembuangan akhir.
2. Kurangnya kesadaran masyarakat desa akan pentingnya menjaga kebersihan lingkungan.
3. Kurangnya fasilitas mandi, cuci, dan kakus yang memadai bagi seluruh masyarakat desa.

This study briefly examines the theoretical and practical landscape of prominent Eco-Villages, Eco-Districts, and Eco-Cities throughout the world. It presents a concise summary of the principles behind successful application projects around the globe. The literature review and research explores various definitions for ecovillages, ecodistricts, and ecocities focusing on sources that are most commonly associated with the terms documenting several different examples under each category in the literature. The good news is that the types of applied research, demonstration and training that the ecovillages, ecodistricts and ecocities are engaged in are "precisely those that will be needed to navigate the rough waters ahead. Seen in this context, the initiatives that have been described on these pages – in reforestation, seed-saving, place-specific technologies for energy-efficient housing, food-growing, energy-generation, the development of inclusive decision-making structures, voluntary simplicity, and so on – appear not so much idiosyncratic tinkering as the very stuff that the building of future societies will be made of" (Dawson, 2006, p. 77).

Penyusunan rencana detail tata ruang dan fasilitas dimaksudkan untuk memberikan arahan pemanfaatan ruang wilayah Perdesaan Air Hitam Laut sebagai bagian dari Rencana Tata Ruang Kabupaten dan upaya perlindungan Taman Nasional Berbak (TNB) melalui pendekatan kesejahteraan masyarakat daerah penyangga. Tujuan dari Rencana Tata Ruang dan Wilayah Perdesaan, sesuai dengan UU No. 26 Tahun 2007 tentang Penataan Ruang Pasal 48 adalah, yaitu pemberdayaan masyarakat perdesaan, pertahanan kualitas lingkungan setempat dan wilayah yang didukungnya, konservasi sumber daya alam dan pelestarian warisan budaya lokal, pertahanan kawasan lahan abadi pertanian pangan untuk ketahanan pangan dan penjagaan keseimbangan pembangunan perdesaan-perkotaan.
Kondisi ruang Desa Air Hitam Laut dapat dikelompokan menjadi 5 Kawasan, yaitu  kawasan pemukiman, kawasan budidaya pertanian, kawasan perluasan budidaya pertanian, kawasan wisata, dan kawasan konservasi.
Potensi ekonomi yang utama di Desa Air Hitam Laut ada dalam bidang pertanian dan perikanan, perdagangan, dan wisata. Pertanian/perikanan terutama adalah perkebunan kelapa, padi sawah, dan nelayan (ikan dan udang).  Dalam bidang perdagangan dan transportasi terutama penjualan kopra, udang dan ikan  ke luar desa, sedangkan potensi wisata adalah  wisata pantai, sungai, upacara ritual, dan gerbang TNB.
Faktor-faktor yang berkaitan dengan fungsi desa sebagai penyangga TNB antara lain adalah kebutuhan kayu untuk bangunan,  rendahnya kesejahteraan ekonomi petani pangan, pengangguran generasi muda, berkurangnya hasil tangkapan di laut, dan bergesernya garis pantai akibat abrasi.

Eco-city projects are becoming increasingly prevalent throughout the globe and are often marketed as ‘new’ urban environments focused on achieving sustainable urban living while promoting environmental–economic transitions towards a low-carbon technological and industrial base. The article argues for the need to consider the thermal aspects of urban metabolism, while at the same time focusing on the link between individual buildings and eco-city master plans and wider economic development strategies at a state level. In so doing, the article encourages critical analysis of eco-city design and planning, while keeping a focus on the role of specific building structures within eco-cities as examples of the intermeshing of what can be termed a ‘political ecology of scale’ which stretches from specific buildings' climatic characteristics, to the metabolic master plan for eco-cities, to provincial, regional and state-level plans for the integration of eco-cities within wider economic and political development trajectories. The article focuses on Masdar, in Abu Dhabi, an eco-city under construction at the time of writing.

Following the industrial revolution, abandonment and decrease of population in rural areas are common problems that can be faced all around the world, as a result of various factors. As a consequence of implemented policies and radical changes in social life, nowadays large number of rural settlements in Turkey are also in the process of abandonment. However, many of these abandoned rural settlements have invaluable vernacular assets that bear the traces of past rural life and comprise the spirit of these cultural landscape areas. Although rural heritage in depopulated settlements have melted against the natural conditions by time, some settlements succeed to preserve their authenticity and integrity to a certain extent. On the other hand in some villages, which are more crowded and close to the city centers, authenticity and integrity values of traditional architectural heritage has been destroyed by human beings as a result of new construction pressures. This situation accompanies a big dilemma about conservation of traditional architectural heritage. This article aims to discuss reasons of depopulation in countryside, impacts of abandonment, pros and cons of re-evaluation alternatives for rural settlements and to develop proposals not only for preservation of rural architectural heritage in rural regions of Turkey, but also for revitalization and sustainability of livelihoods in there.

Recent research suggests that occupants’ behavior has a huge impact on the energy performance of the building, but is also regarded as a leading factor in uncertainty when determining the effectiveness of the energy systems. Green buildings that fail to meet predicted performance indicate the same. Due to inaccurate description of occupant behavior and the complexity in measuring or quantifying occupant behaviour, human influences on the built environment has been either simplified or ignored in the pre-design, design and construction stages.
This research aims to explore the relationship between the design process and occupant behavior to understand the potential areas of improvement and changes (in the design process) that could provide efficient solutions in terms of energy conservation. For this, the design process of a successful eco-village was studied and analyzed along with the other design processes. The analysis revealed that the existing design process intents to prioritize environmental and economic factors over social factors. To improve and stabilize this the research also proposes a theoretical framework that could function as a supporting diagram for designers in understanding the behavioral needs of occupants and devising the strategies accordingly. The existing behavioral theories were studied along with the energy-saving strategies to understand the variables involved and the correlation between them. The framework works in four stages; identifying the primary determinants, defining the targets, choosing an appropriate energy strategy and evaluating the strategies based on previously reported discomfort. To determine the usability of the proposed framework, it was assessed based on the impressions of four experts from various disciplines. The result shows that though the framework presents a number of unavoidable uncertainties, it is applicable and is a necessary step in the right direction.

The paper is about presenting a new model of sustainability "Eco-village". The methodology of the paper is purely descriptive and theoretical. It presents the current scenario of villages and cities with respect to environment. The author starts with explaining the current situations by stating examples and with comparative analysis of current and traditional living pattern of human beings & how the dwellings transformed with the evolution of living style of people and society as well. Stating that the current model of living is inappropriate and hazardous for the present as well as future generation as well. We should move beyond the traditional model and introduce a new model which is sustainable for now and for the future generation as well. Further he explained that the analysis of environmental degradation is off great importance as the present major problems can be easily resolved by utilization of resources available. The villages condition is going into depression because of lack of resources, people are migrating to cities which are causing urban problems and on the other hand it is affecting our country economy because of depression of agriculture. Then he described the origin and meaning of word eco-village. It is derived from a Greek word "oikos"-Household or place to live. "logos"-study & knowledge.

Article discusses current problems in rural Serbia and investigates development opportunities. The intention is to indicate strengths and weaknesses of the present situation and to highlight possible solutions for sustainable development. The results were presented in the form of potential methods for future development and are dis-cussed through several issues: sustainable regional development and sustainable rural development as an alternative to excessive urbanization; cultivating the tradition of the village and development of rural tourism; cultural heritage in the service of sustainable development; building the ecological image of the village through promotion of the local economy and organic farming; and social capital and infrastructure development as factors of sustainable development. The conclusion is that in planning the development of rural areas, villages should be seen as a value and their potentials and regional characteristics should be promoted and used in order to contribute to sustainable development.

ABSTRACT
Indonesia is famous for its beautiful natural scenery, but there are still ecotourism issues related to developing its potential. There is a need to increase the capacity of the community to be able to develop a tourist village so that an increase in foreign exchange income. The results of the recommendations from the SPK can help stakeholders, and to solve the problem of determining the development of rural ecotourism by using a combination of AHP-VIKOR methods. AHP is a functional hierarchy with input from human perception, and the VIKOR method can select effective and efficient criteria for determining the outcome of decisions with many attributes and several criteria. This study uses 8 criteria, namely Biological, Physical Environment, Culture, Infrastructure, Institutional, Human Resources, Social Society, and Accessibility. The alternative data in this study are 9 data, namely Singapadu Tengah Village, Batubulan Village, Kerta Village, Taro Village, Mas Village, Kedisan Village, Kemenuh Village, Singapadu Kaler Village, and Kendran Village. The assessment of each tourism village data has been validated in previous studies. The results of this study indicate that Batubulan Village with a preference value of 0.96 is a tourism village that can be given assistance in developing rural ecotourism.

ABSTRAK
Indonesia terkenal berkat panorama alam indah, namun masih terdapat permasalahan ekowisata
terkait dengan pengembangan potensinya. Perlu adanya peningkatan kapasitas masyarakat agar
mampu mengembangkan desa wisata sehingga terjadi peningkatan pendapatan devisa. Hasil
rekomendasi dari SPK dapat membantu stakeholders, dan untuk memecahkan permasalahan
penentuan pegembangan ekowisata pedesaan dengan menggunakan kombinasi metode AHPVIKOR.
AHP adalah hierarki fungsional dengan input dari persepsi manusia, dan metode
VIKOR dapat memilih kriteria yang efektif dan efisien untuk menentukan hasil keputusan
dengan banyak atribut dan beberapa kriteria. Penelitian ini menggunakan 8 kriteria, yaitu Bio
Hayati, Lingkungan Fisik, Budaya, Infrastruktur, Kelembagaan, SDM, Sosial Masyarakat, dan
Aksesibilitas. Data alternatif pada penelitian ini sebanyak 9 data, yaitu Desa Singapadu Tengah,
Desa Batubulan, Desa Kerta, Desa Taro, Desa Mas, Desa Kedisan, Desa Kemenuh, Desa
Singapadu Kaler, dan Desa Kendran. Penilaian dari masing-masing data desa wisata telah
divalidasi pada penelitian sebelumnya. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan Desa Batubulan
dengan nilai preferensi 0,96 merupakan desa wisata yang dapat diberikan bantuan
pengembangan ekowisata pedesaan.

This article is a comparative analasys of spatial organization of two chosen villages in Opolszczyzna (Kromołów
and Siołkowice Nowe), situated in different environmental conditions and differ in terms of morphogenetic and functional
structures. Changes of individual elements of spatial organisation which took place in 19th and 20th century,
were charted on the strenght of prussian and polish topographic maps. It contains analasys of changes of village's
surfaces and course of border, evolution of settlement, field pattern and course of ways. It take attempt to show that
origin and functions of villages have influence on its spatial organisation.

Poverty has decreased in Indonesia since two decades which align with SDGs' goal. However, poverty still concentrated in rural area beacuse of low income generating then they tend to find better life in urban areas. Beside, Indonesia try to develop rural community with Village Owned Enterprise (VEs) and Village Funds. This paper aims to examine, to describe then to compare the significant factors that influence about between VEs policy implementation in Indonesia, and Township and Village Enterprise (TVEs) in China since 1970s with country social analysis (CSA) approach. We use desk research by gathering previous studies, popular article which explain this topic. Further, this paper found that there are several distinctions between TVEs in China and EV in Indonesia in implementation. Although this different social structure and economic environment, Indonesia Government can take several lessons to improve VEs policy in order to provide social transformation in rural area.

Abstrak Program Homestay adalah satu bentuk penginapan alternatif yang ditawarkan kepada pelancong dan berupaya mendekatkan pelancong dengan keindahan semula jadi di beberapa buah tempat terpilih di Malaysia. Melalui Program ini, pelancong juga berpeluang untuk tinggal bersama dengan keluarga tuan rumah dan merasai sendiri pengalaman tuan rumah tersebut menjalankan kehidupan seharian mereka. Tujuan kajian ini dijalankan adalah untuk mengkaji faktor kurangnya pendedahan terhadap penduduk setempat mengenai pengurusan homestay ini serta kepentingannya kepada penduduk setempat dan secara tidak langsung kepada negara. Metodologi yang digunakan dalam kajian ini adalah melalui temubual, pengedaran borang soal selidik dan juga pemerhatian. Hasil penelitian yang dilakukan mendapati bahawa seramai 309 orang (95.1%) daripada 325 orang pernah mendengar tentang homestay namun hanya 24 orang (7.4%) orang sahaja yang benar-benar memahami konsep homestay yang sebenar. Hasil kajian yang diperolehi adalah berdasarkan analisa deskriptif dan analisa kekerapan. Kajian ini penting untuk kesedaran masyarakat tentang homestay di Sabah serta kepentingannya dalam ekonomi tempatan dan negara.

Communities everywhere are already in crisis as a result of the twin threats of peak everything and climate change. These threats will pressure all future organisations of the technological base. Th is presents opportunities for careful and intelligent intervention. Though some forms of environmental crises are certain, the timing and severity of these remain unclear and will likely provide unique challenges to varying climate and socio-economic contexts. A variety of probable environmental scenarios will constrain the range of potential political interventions. In this article different orientations to the interacting crises, with focus toward possible reorganisation of the technological base, are considered. Through a brief discussion of environmentally-oriented anarchist politics, postanarchism, and radically democratic politics of technology, I find new directions for an anarchist politics of technology prepared for the short- and long-term responses to the crises. I demonstrate these politics through a set of practicable evaluative questions for assessing new and existing artefacts and systems. In doing so, I provide not only the beginnings of an analytic theory of technology, but also an evaluation-oriented experimental schema.

Ecology is one of the important issues in creating sustainable residential areas like eco-cities and eco-villages. Today, development of cities and villages has created many environment damages and presenting some solutions to minimize these damages is useful. We should find a new model of residential area to fulfill with the new community requirements and create sustainable development in urban and village residential areas. The present study introduces and evaluates eco-village and how eco-villages have considered the concept of sustainability. Also, this study evaluates how sustainability goals based on the main solutions of sustainable architecture can focus on three important criteria of ecology, society and culture. The study method is based on document and analytic descriptive study. Finally, some solutions are introduced to create eco-villages based on the criteria in sustainable architecture.
