ספר זה עוסק בתולדותיו של מכון ליאו בק ירושלים. מייסדיו ומנהליו של המכון, ובהם אנשי רוח ומנהיגים ציונים בולטים מבין יוצאי גרמניה בישראל כמו מרטין בובר, גרשם שלום, עקיבא ארנסט סימון וקורט בלומנפלד – התמודדו לאורך השנים עם שאלות יסוד אלה וניסו להציע להן פתרונות.

הספר יוצא לאור לציון יובל חמישים להקמתו של המכון, מציג את מניעיהם ולבטיהם של בני דור המייסדים של המכון ואת הדרכים השונות שבהן פעלו לעצב את זיכרון דמותה של היהדות הגרמנית ולקדם את חקר מורשתה. הוא גם מתאר את הצלחתו של המכון ליצור מתוכו דור ישראלי הממשיך את דרכם של המייסדים בחקר המורשת היהודית-גרמנית מתוך פרספקטיבות חדשות.

פרופ' גיא מירון הוא מרצה בכיר במכון שכטר למדעי היהדות וחוקר במכון הבין-לאומי לחקר השואה ביד ושם. ספרו "מ'שם' ל'כאן' בגוף ראשון: זיכרונותיה של יוצאי גרמניה בישראל" ראה אור בהוצאת מגנס ומרכז קבנר להיסטוריה גרמנית.

Michael Levi Rodkinson (1845–1904) was a journalist, author, and publisher whose literary projects spanned numerous countries and continents. Hero to some and scoundrel to others, Rodkinson was a polemical figure whose beliefs underwent many transformations over the course of his life, most significantly from Hasidism to combative Haskalah to eventually anticipating the neo-Romantic trends of the early twentieth century. Throughout his career, Rodkinson’s writing challenged the familiar genres of the literature of Hasidism and the Haskalah, shaping the religious realities of his readers and articulating a spiritual and community life among Jews, who took his ideas to heart in surprising ways.Today, Rodkinson is frequently referred to as a minor Hasidic author and publisher, a characterization based on the criticism of his opponents rather than on his writings. In Literary Hasidism, Meir draws upon those writings and their reception to present a completely different picture of this colorful and influential writer. הקובץ 'גנזי יוסף פרל' מכנס את מבחר מאמריו של פרופסור שמואל ורסס שנכתבו סביב יצירתו של יוסף פרל (1839-1773). חקר מורשתו של פרל, אביר הסטיריקנים וסופרי ההשכלה היהודית במאה הי"ט, העסיק את שמואל ורסס יותר משישים שנה, והוא ראה בכך את היהלום שבכתר עבודתו המדעית. זהו ספרו האחרון של ורסס, שעליו עמל טרם פטירתו אך לא זכה להשלימו. פרקי הספר – שכולם עודכנו והושלמו בידי העורך – דנים בשלל נושאים, למן גורלה של ספרייתו העשירה של פרל בעיר טרנופול שבגליציה וגלגולי שרידיה לירושלים, עבור בההדרה ביקורתית של טקסטים מקוריים מארכיונו של פרל (סטירות וכתבי פולמוס אנטי-חסידיים), וכלה בחקר מורשתו הדו-לשונית של פרל (בעברית וביידיש) ששיאה הוא ספר 'מגלה טמירין'.
פרופסור שמואל ורסס (2010-1915), יליד וילנה ואיש ירושלים למן עלייתו ארצה ב-1935, היה מגדולי החוקרים של ספרות עם ישראל בכלל וספרות ההשכלה בפרט. עבודותיו מקיפות כמאתיים שנים של ספרות יהודית שצמחה מתוך החיים במזרח-אירופה מראשית תקופת ההשכלה ועד אחרי מלחמת העולם השנייה. הוא לימד במשך עשרות שנים בחוג לספרות עברית באוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים ופרסם מאות מאמרים וספרים רבים. בשנת 1989 הוכתר כחתן פרס ישראל בחקר הספרות העברית.
עורך הספר, פרופסור יונתן מאיר, מלמד במחלקה למחשבת ישראל ע"ש גולדשטיין-גורן באוניברסיטת בן-גוריון בנגב ומתמחה בספרות ההשכלה, החסידות והקבלה המאוחרת.

Die Geschichte der deutsch-jüdischen oder jüdisch-deutschen Literatur-was könnte das sein? Die Frage ist nicht unwichtig, weil bereits in der be-grifflichen Bestimmung Schwierigkeiten enthalten sind, die es im Sinne einer modernen Literaturgeschichtsschreibung zu reflektieren gilt. Denn die Kon-stitution des Forschungsobjekts läßt sich nicht unabhängig von allerlei vor-gängigen Annahmen beschreiben, die sich das beziehen, was z. B. als mehr oder weniger wesentlich deutsch bzw. jüdisch aufzufassen sei. 1 Zum einen sind die beiden Termini deutsch und jüdisch nicht äquivalent, aber ihr Verhältnis ist auch nicht klar. Ist mit einer deutsch-jüdischen Literatur die Literatur von Autoren gemeint, die Juden oder jüdischer Abstammung sind, aber in deutscher Sprache schreiben? Oder muß diese Form der Literatur auch wie auch immer zu bestimmende jüdische Charakterzüge oder The-men aufweisen? Was aber ist dann mit Texten, die Jüdisches thematisieren, aber von Nichtjuden geschrieben wurden? Oder mit zwar deutschen, aber in hebräischen Schriftzeichen geschriebenen Texten? Und wie ist der Status eines Autors zu behandeln, der sich wie Moses Mendelssohn sowohl der hebräischen als auch der deutschen Sprache bediente? Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht die Verwandlungen der neuen jüdischen Frau von der Gründung der zionistischen Bewegung, 1897 in Basel, bis 1931 sowohl aus einer literarischen und künstlerischen als auch aus einer historischen Perspektive. Sie rekonstruiert zuerst weibliche Figuren aus den deutschsprachigen zionistischen Periodika, Lyriksammlungen und Almanachen und befasst sich mit den kulturzionistischen Darstellungen der neuen jüdischen Frau im künstlerischen und literarischen Werk in der Jüdischen Renaissance um die Jahrhundertwende. Danach erforscht sie die Position und die Aufgaben der jüdischen Frau im Jüdischen Frauenbund und ihre Wirkung auf die Vorbereitung der jungen jüdischen Mädchen aus West- und Osteuropa auf das Leben in Kolonien in Palästina. Schließlich wird ein Paradigma der weiblichen Figur in den literarischen Werken aus den deutschsprachigen zionistischen Zeitschriften Die Welt. Zentralorgan der Zionistischen Bewegung (1897-1914), Israelitische Rundschau (1901-1902), Jüdische Rundschau (1902-1919) und Ost und West. Illustrierte Monatsschrift für das gesamte Judentum (1901-1923) erstellt und untersucht.

The thesis examines the transformations of the new Jewish woman in the period from the founding of the Zionist movement in 1897 in Basel and covers the period up to 1931 from a literary, artistic, and historical perspective. The female figures are reconstructed from the German-language Zionist periodicals, poetry collections, anthologies, and almanacs. The thesis examines the Cultural Zionist representations of the new Jewish woman in artistic and literary works in the Jewish Renaissance at the turn-of-the-century. Furthermore, the position and roles of Jewish women in the Jewish Women's League and their impact on preparing young Jewish girls from Western and Eastern Europe for life in colonies in Palestine is explored. Finally, a paradigm of the female figure in literary works from the Zionist German-language periodicals Die Welt; Zentralorgan der Zionistischen Bewegung (1897-1914), Israelitische Rundschau (1901-1902), Jüdische Rundschau (1902-1919) and Ost und West. Illustrierte Monatsschrift für das gesamte Judentum (1901-1923) is established and examined.
