Данный автореферат представляет собой краткое содержание моей диссертации, защищенной 18 марта 2014 г.

В  работе рассматривается вопрос o влиянии хроники Тацита Анналы на роман Достоевского Бесы на разных уровнях: на стилистическом, на повествовательном, на идеологическом.

Dostojewskis Kurzroman Aufzeichnungen aus dem Kellerloch oder eigentlich "dem Untergrund" (Записки из подполья im Original) wurde erstmals 1864 in der Zeitschrift Epocha veröffentlicht. Die Geschichte des namenlosen Mannes im Untergrund gliedert sich in zwei Teile. Im ersten Teil legt der damals 40-jährige Beamte seine Lebensphilosophie in der Gegenwart der Erzählung dar und im zweiten erinnert er sich an eine Reihe von Ereignissen, die sich in der Vergangenheit der Erzählung, fünfzehn Jahre früher, zugetragen haben.

La biblioteca di Dostoesvskij è un'altra biblioteca perduta. Di essa ci restano alcuni cataloghi redatti nel corso degli anni dalla vedova Anna Grigorev'na in cui sono elencati circa seicento volumi. Certamente non sono tutti perché questo fondo librario aveva subito delle perdite già durante la vita dello scrittore. Dopo la morte di Dostoevskij  il patrimonio librario prese diversi rivoli di cui non sempre risulta agevole ricostruire il percorso e che alla fine si riduce a una trentina di volumi e ad alcune copertine e frontespizi superstiti secondo una diaspora di cui in questo volume sono tracciate le linee essenziali.

Библиотека Достоевского - это ещё одна потерянная библиотека. От неё нам достались некоторые списки, собранные в течение нескольких лет вдовой писателя Анной Григорьевной, в которых значатся порядка шестисот книг. Конечно, список не полный, потому что этот библиотечный фонд понес потери еще при жизни писателя. После смерти Достоевского его книжное наследство растеклось в разных направлениях путями, которые не так просто восстановить, и уменьшилось до тридцати книг и некоторых обложек и титульных листов, которые выжили и о которых в этой книге приводятся основные существенные сведения.

Questo volume affronta la relazione tra metamorfosi del romanzo e testualità audiovisiva a partire dall’analisi di alcune tra le opere più rappresentative di quella che in ambito statunitense è stata definita Complex TV. Attraverso una critica dei finali di puntata e di serie, interpretati come indizi o sintomi di determinate caratteristiche stilistiche, Emanuela Piga Bruni individua la ripresa di temi di lunga durata e di tecniche narrative del romanzo classico in tre serie televisive di successo: Lost di J. J. Abrams, D. Lindelof, J. Lieber, C. Cuse (2004-2010), Mad Men di Matthew Weiner (2007-2015), Breaking Bad di Vince Gilligan (AMC, 2008-2013). L’autrice si interroga sulle ragioni all’origine della fortuna di queste opere: tra entrelacement e cliffhanger, intrecci vorticosi e interruzioni, contaminazioni dal cinema e delle arti visive, le serie TV contemporanee generano nuove suggestioni nell’immaginario collettivo capaci di coinvolgere un pubblico globale e transgenerazionale.

The first time that Nietzsche crossed the path of Dostoevsky was in the winter of 1886–87. While in Nice, Nietzsche discovered in a bookshop the volume L’esprit souterrain. Two years later, he defined Dostoevsky as the only psychologist
from whom he had anything to learn. The second, metaphorical encounter between Nietzsche and Dostoevsky happened on the verge of nihilism. Nietzsche announced the death of God, whereas Dostoevsky warned against the danger
of atheism.
This book describes the double encounter between Nietzsche and Dostoevsky. Following the chronological thread offered by Nietzsche’s correspondence, the author provides a detailed analysis of Nietzsche’s engagement with Dostoevsky from the very beginning of his discovery to the last days before his mental breakdown. The second part of this book aims to dismiss the wide-spread and stereotypical reading according to which Dostoevsky foretold and criticized in his major novels some of Nietzsche’s most dangerous and nihilistic theories. In order to reject such reading, the author focuses on the following moral dilemma: If God does not exist, is everything permitted?

Russian religious thinkers are a fertile source for addressing the issue of the theologico-political problem in modern political thought. In the writings of authors such as Vladimir Soloviev, Nikolai Berdiaev, and Sergei Bulgakov, we can find samples of a theological understanding of secular modern political theories. Russian religious thought, in its singular quest for anthropological and metaphysical integrality, assumes a Christocentric character, as it allows to integrate the divine in humanity without being the latter devoured by the first one. With a transcendent horizon, free from the myth of secularism and the narrative of the Enlightenment, they reflect on all human affairs from a religious point of view. It is an approach to modernity from an outsider's point of view. Modern ideas broke in Russia as an external force, disruptive of the Slavic lifeworld and tradition. This gave them the conditions of possibility to perceive more easily its basic characteristics, problems and implications. Thus, they recognized the religious and theological implications of these ideas, avowedly secular, unlike their contemporary Western intelligentsia who view them as a gradual development of their own intellectual and social being. In this diagnosis, the thinkers mentioned above have the same master: Fyodor M. Dostoevsky. As said Ivan Karamazov, the greatest character of The Brothers Karamazov, "socialism and anarchism, transforming the whole of mankind according to a new order, it's the same damned thing [that the theological questions], the questions are all the same, only from the opposite end”. Dostoevsky acknowledged that despite the alleged neutrality or opposition of modern political theories to religion, religious and theological conceptions subsisted in a heretical form. The dissolution of the influence of Christianity in public life did not dilute the aspirations to fulfill the eschatological promises of Christianity, they were transferred to politics in the pursuit of its consummation in the immanence of history, attributing to the secular political sphere a power that according to orthodox Christian theology only God can accomplish. A text that gathers all these intuitions and thoughts of Dostoevsky in its most mature form is The Legend of The Grand Inquisitor, which had an important reception in Russian religious thinkers, allowing us to gather some of their reflections about the theological-political question. In this thesis, I propose to articulate the interpretations on this text offered by Soloviev, Berdyaev, and Bulgakov, along with some of Dostoevsky's parallel writings and thus exposing a shared vision on the theologico-political question with relevance for the post-secular scenario.

Presento qui un breve saggio realizzato molti anni fa per una tesina universitaria. La mia lettura di Dostoevskij al tempo era basata ancora per lo più su testi tradotti, quindi uno dei limiti di questo articolo consiste nelle citazioni, tutte tratte da traduzioni (non ho ritenuto opportuno riverificare i testi citati sulla base degli originali russi, anche perché le mie considerazioni era appunto basate sulle traduzioni in italiano; solo in un caso, segnalato in nota, ho ricontrollato e ritradotto una citazione). Altro limite è dovuto a una certa chiave psicologista usata nell’interpretare l’arte di Dostoevskij, che oggi con ogni probabilità avrei riveduto e circoscritto. Ma in sostanza, pur con questi limiti e pur non brillando per originalità, l’articolo offre una delle possibili letture del bellissimo romanzo di Dostoevskij e potrebbe essere di stimolo a rileggere questo capolavoro.

"Ripercorsa a ritroso la storia dei rapporti tra Italo Calvino e Tommaso Landolfi, a partire dall’antologia de Le più belle pagine di Tommaso Landolfi scelte da Italo Calvino (1982), l’articolo avanza un’ipotesi di precoce contatto intertestuale incentrata su La casa degli alveari di Calvino (Ultimo viene il corvo, 1949), racconto di chiara ispirazione dostoevskijana che manifesta non pochi punti di tangenza con il celebre Maria Giuseppa (1930), notorio pastiche di quei Ricordi dal sottosuolo più tardi tradotti dallo stesso Landolfi".

The present paper discusses Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment as a novel that pushes the boundaries of psychological analysis in literature. Following L. S. Vygotsky’s approach to psychology of art, the commentary intends to delve into the structure of the novel to find the unique psychological perspective that is embedded in it. The analysis focuses on the opposition between fragmentation and unity in the novel’s structure and character portrayal, as well as on the epilogue as a moment in the narrative that fully unveils the anti-psychological nature of this literary work. The depiction of a deeper reality that cannot be grasped by a linear biographical-scientific understanding of personality is simultaneously the core of the novel’s anti-psychologism and its unique psychology, one that encompasses a metaphysical and spiritual realm in which epiphany finds its meaning. Lastly, we hope that this analytic and sensible effort can somehow contribute to enriching the contact with Dostoevsky’s literature, an experience that is in itself irreplaceable.

Introduzione e cura di Danilo Breschi

Fëdor dostoevskij (Mosca, 1821-San Pietroburgo, 1881), è autore, fra gli altri, dei romanzi Il sosia (1846), Memorie dal sotto-suolo (1864), Delitto e castigo (1866), L'idiota (1869) e I demoni (1871). Considerato in Italia il più grande scrittore russo assieme a Tolstoj, in Russia è ritenuto anche un grande filosofo. È in qualità di profondo pensatore, religioso e politico, che viene qui presentato il racconto contenuto nel suo ultimo capolavoro, I fratelli Karamazov (1880), vero e proprio romanzo nel romanzo.
«Altri si interessano di altre cose e noi, giovanotti di primo pelo, dobbiamo prima di tutto risolvere le questioni eterne; ecco quel che ci preoccupa». 
Se c'è un luogo della letteratura mondiale in cui filosofia, religione e arte del romanzo convivono nella loro forma più alta, questo è il capitolo V del libro V dell'ultimo capolavoro di Dostoevskij, I Fratelli Karamazov. Un tesoro inesauribile di conoscenza letteraria, filosofica, teologica e antropologica. Uno di quei testi che non smetterà mai di interrogare l'uomo e domandargli del suo destino, in terra e in cielo.

Presento qui la breve postfazione che chiudeva la mia traduzione (ormai di venti anni or sono!), in cui sono delineate alcune chiavi di lettura di questo polifonico romanzo di Dostoevskij. Ovviamente, viene presupposta la lettura recente del romanzo per una migliore comprensione degli accenni, spesso ellittici, fatti nel testo.

Over the years, critics have noticed two antithetical tendencies in Kurt Vonnegut’s work: one toward existentialism and another toward determinism. These two labels recur frequently in Vonnegut criticism with little or no explanation as to how they apply to his novels. In spite of the critical insistence on Vonnegut’s existential or deterministic philosophy, little work has been done to develop either of these ideas, and strictly through critical repetition, Vonnegut’s work has become more closely associated with French existentialism than with the determinism of American literary naturalism.

By overstating the influence of existentialism on Vonnegut’s novels, critics have neglected the influence of determinism on his work, and this neglect disconnects the author from his American literature roots of naturalism. Through an examination of Vonnegut’s treatment of free will and determinism in three of his signature texts, The Sirens of Titan, Cat’s Cradle, and Slaughterhouse-Five, this study reveals a tension between the two
philosophies in the author’s work. Instead of being predominantly existential, Vonnegut’s works leave unresolved a tension between existentialism, where people create their own meaning through acts of free will, and determinism, where people have no free will and react to the physical environments in which they have been placed.

This is the front matter for an anthology I edited for Greenhaven Press that was published in 1999 and is, as far as I know, now out of print (though copies are still floating around on various used-book websites). What is included here is the front matter that I wrote as well as the table of contents for the excepted pieces that I anthologized within the book.

The article is devoted to an analysis of the moral and existential situation of the Rodion Raskolnikov, the hero of "Crime and Punishment". First, however, I try to identify the main trends in the reception of the works of Dostoyevsky, then emphasize the central issue of literary hero in the works of Russian writer. The main part of the article I try to explain the “failure” of Raskolnikov to the project “rational killings”, and I am trying here to move away from the generally applicable standard of interpretation.

Статья посвящена анализу моральной и экзистенциальной ситуации Родиона Раскольникова, героя "Преступления и наказания". Сначала я стараюсь также определить основные направления интерпретаций творчества русского писателя, а затем подчеркнуть как центральную проблему героя в произведениях Достоевского. В оновной части статьи я пытаюсь объяснить "провал" Раскольникова в связи с проектом "рационального убийства", пытаясь уйти от общеприменимаемых здесь интерпретаций.

In questo articolo si vuole mostrare attraverso l’analisi dei percorsi di alcuni personaggi de I Fratelli Karamazov, come Dostoevskij aiuti a smascherare quella che l’Autrice chiama il “moralismo della vergogna”, ossia un agire dominato dal giudizio dell’altro e che induce a un agire estraneo al proprio volere e slegato da un autentico rapporto con l’altro e con la realtà, offrendo al contempo al lettore l’esperienza di una diversa possibilità esistenziale. Lo studio parte dall’osservazione dell’emozione di vergogna come emozione base delle figure principali del romanzo per evidenziare la radice dell’emozione stessa nella relazione con l’altro e il modo in cui alcune relazioni all’interno del romanzo costituiscono l’alternativa possibile a una esistenza guidata guidata dalla vergogna e dall’onore.

En el presente estudio se exponen los inicios de la penetración de la literatura rusa en España, para centrarse a continuación en el caso particular de F. M. Dostoievski. Con tal fin, se analiza la imagen del escritor ruso transmitida por la Condesa Pardo Bazán en 1887 a través de sus conferencias impartidas en el Ateneo de Madrid, así como las distintas visiones e interpretaciones que se pueden hallar de Dostoievski en la prensa española hasta finales de la Guerra Civil (1939).

In most discourse on arts, modernism and avant-garde are regarded as deeply intertwined phenomena or even synonyms. Within film criticism and research, however, they are thoroughly separated. In this paper a selection of Jean-Luc Godard’s films from 1955–1967 will be examined as outstanding examples of non-avant-garde modernism. I attempt to elucidate how the films are used to examine a struggle between word and image. The conceptual framework behind the term image is taken from Henri Bergson’s understanding of all material as image, whereas Vilém Flusser provides the insight into the history of the struggle between the linear logic of the word and the ‘magical’ logic of the image. Gilles Deleuze’ analysis of the appearance of thought in cinema will be employed to cast further light on the methods involved in Godard’s work. The films and their underlying intention are shown as related to Fredric Jamesons’s understanding of the concept modernity. Finally it will be claimed that Alain Badiou’s concepts of Truth, Event and subject are founded on an understanding related to Jameson, but that through dehistoricizing modernity they found modernism as an attitude that may be taken up as a guiding principle. In terms of ethics modernism in this sense lies close to the realm of virtue: the virtue of thought as rebellion. Through a thorough examination of chosen aspects in Godard’s work they are exhibited as examples of the potential outcome of such an attitude. Finally it will be claimed that cinema is not a form of art, whereas modernist cinema of which Godard provides some of the clearest examples, is a medium and venue for thought: that the cinematic apparatus is in his hands research equipment, employed to investigate what it means to be an incorporated subject in a material world. Such research provides friction and slows down philosophical mansplaining. This project, revealed by looking not merely at a single film but Godard’s continuus work as a process of thought, remains and, according to Badiou’s understanding of Truth, will remain unconcluded. The underlying attitude thus remains valid.

Nel diciannovesimo secolo, la prostituzione era un fenomeno pubblico estremamente diffuso. Nel 1866, Dostoevskij pubblica Delitto e castigo, un’opera magistrale nella quale assegna proprio ad una prostituta, Sonja Marmeladova, un ruolo fondamentale. In questo mio elaborato, il mio intento è quello di valutare in che modo la rappresentazione dostoevskiana di Sonja si possa collocare all’interno del panorama dei discorsi dell’epoca sulla prostituzione. La mia analisi prenderà avvio dalle due categorie di ‘madonne’ e ‘maddalene’, presenti nei discorsi sulla prostituzione dell’Inghilterra vittoriana e che in seguito si diffusero in tutta Europa e in Russia. Secondo la rappresentazione offertaci da Dostoevskij, Sonja è una ‘maddalena’, una peccatrice degradata? E qualora lo fosse, sarebbe salvabile o condannata? Si può definire Sonja una donna emancipata, che ha compiuto una scelta arbitraria o, come nella tragedia classica, ci troviamo davanti ad un oscuro disegno del fato? Tenendo in considerazione l’innovativa categoria analitica di agency, introdotta nell’ambito dello studio della prostituzione solamente negli anni ’90 del Novecento, la tesi si incaricherà di esaminare se essa si possa intravedere nell’opera ottocentesca di Dostoevskij.

«Storie avventurose di libri necessari» è una traversata del Novecento italiano. Racconta, in undici saggi, le fortune e gli infortuni, i segreti e gli intrighi delle opere che hanno dato forma a un secolo di letteratura. Racconta le avventure dei libri, ma anche di chi li ha scritti: e per riuscire a farlo ricorre a carte d’archivio, a documenti inediti, a lettere private, a scritti dimenticati o nascosti dagli autori stessi.
Si salpa l’ancora ricostruendo le tracce lasciate nell’opera dei nostri scrittori dal più bel libro di avventure di tutti i tempi, «L’isola del tesoro». E si prosegue, proprio come negli agguati pirateschi di Stevenson, andando a scoprire perché il saluto «Ohi, Peppì!» equivalesse per Domenico Rea a un’offesa grave, e perché mai Corrado Alvaro dedicasse tanti pensieri all’eros di Mussolini. Vedremo quali nessi invisibili sussistano tra Beckett & Borges (e tra Fruttero & Lucentini che li hanno introdotti qui in Italia), e che cosa Fortini e Vittorini videro sbarcare a Bocca di Magra insieme con Marguerite Duras. Ma, come nella vita corsara, saremo spesso chiamati a combattere: e da Calvino, da Fenoglio, da Meneghello, impareremo ad apprezzare le differenze di stile che ci sono tra una pistola, un mortaio e un fucile mitragliatore per chi sta rischiando la vita nella guerra civile. O magari ci limiteremo a litigare pur amandoci attraverso il tempo e lo spazio, come Sciascia fece con Stendhal, o Parise con Darwin.
Eppure, la lotta senza tregue sarà sempre quella che uno scrittore combatte contro se stesso: e per raccontarla dovremo estrarre alla luce la virgola ebraica intessuta nella scrittura di Bassani, dovremo estorcere a Mario Soldati – proprio mentre si sta godendo un gelato – il suo passato di critico d’arte, dovremo interrogare Primo Levi e Giorgio Manganelli finché non confessino le vere ragioni della loro contesa sullo scrivere chiaro e lo scrivere oscuro.

The aim of this paper is to explore the limits of moral permissibility in both Dostoevsky and Nietzsche. To this aim, the author will consider a comparison often made in the studies dedicated to Dostoevsky and Nietzsche, namely that between Nietzsche’s overman and Dostoevsky’s nihilistic anti-heroes: Ivan Karamazov (and his idea that, if there is no God and no immortality of the soul, everything is permitted), Raskolnikov (and his “extraordinary men”), and Kirilov (and his man-god). This comparison will serve the purpose of distinguishing Nietzsche’s immoralism from a mere amoralism à la Karamazov. Finally, the author will tackle the following question: if there is no God, is everything permitted?

"In his phenomenological study of imaginative acts in The Imaginary, Jean-Paul Sartre declares that memory and imagination are two different functions, and consequently severs the two from one another. Imagination, he argues, is the epitome of human freedom, since it allows consciousness to detach itself from experience or to negate reality; recollection, on the other hand, entirely depends on perception and is portrayed in The Imaginary as reproduction of perceptual experience. I show in this paper that although he explicitly treats memory and imagination as dichotomous, Sartre’s description of the two indicates strong affinities between them. First, Sartre uses recollections as examples of imaginative acts. Second, his phenomenological description of imagination is wholly applicable to recollection. The paper re-examines the relationship between memory and imagination in The Imaginary and uses Sartre’s theory of imagination as well as his autobiographical writing to conceptualize autobiographical memory as an active and productive aspect of the human mind "

В статье показывается, что традиционные интерпретации романа «Преступление и наказание» принципиально ошибочны, поскольку не учитывают того обстоятельства, что он создавался в условиях ужесточавшейся цензуры. Исходить из уверенности, что замысел автора получил точное выражение в опубликованном тексте, неосмотрительно. Достоевский на многих страницах прибегает к эзопову языку, скрывающему то, что его роман во многом является ответом на «Что делать?» Николая Чернышевского. Как и Чернышевский, Достоевский обсуждает злободневный вопрос о том, что собой представляют русские революционеры. Раскольников интересен ему не как уголовный преступник, а как талантливый человек, заразившийся западными революционными идеями. Достоевский представляет себе революционера прежде всего как террориста, присвоившего право стоять выше закона не только человеческого, но и природного, самовольно решающего, кому жить, а кому умереть. Революционер якобы стремится облагодетельствовать человечество, но на самом деле жаждет власти над «человеческим муравейником». Полемический ответ дал Писарев. Он настаивал на том, что Достоевский выдал читателю за революционера совершенно иной социальный тип и что пролитие крови отнюдь не обязательная черта приближающейся революции.

The vision, my interpretation: Fidel Castro is a Sinner and Jesus is sympathetic with sinners, no doubts about it.Jesus would  send him not to Hell, but to Siberia, like Raskolnikov.  /Rodion is a fictional character, the protagonist of Dostoevsky’s Crime & Punishment. Raskolnikov believes in this theory of the extraordinary man, who is permitted to commit murder (or any other crime) in order to further a great cause. Fidel Castro, el Comandante, is a historical personality, the best well known Cuban politician. Perhaps, the most striking feature of Fidel Castro is his dual personality, like Raskolnikov himself. On the one hand, he is cold, able to commit any crime; on the other, he can be surprisingly charm and compassionate. Their characters are violently contradictory. Raskolnikov helps to reveal the inner workings of the world of the spirit, "preciso es las cuestiones de lo impreciso" and in this particular case, it helps me in order to define the ethics of violence in the political thought of Fidel Castro.

Ce livre développe, à partir de Merleau-Ponty, Henry et Sartre, une phénoménologie décrivant la vie perceptive du point de vue du désir d'éprouver qui s'y déploie. L'auteur interroge, selon différents chemins tout à la fois opposés et noués les uns aux autres, le rapport de la vie perceptive à l'imaginaire et à la théâtralité originaire du corps. Il montre comment chaque expérience perceptive est la mise en jeu d'un désir de vivre, comment elle est susceptible d'accroître ou d'affaiblir la capacité des individus à se laisser affecter en profondeur par leur situation, à l'endurer, à y ouvrir du possible.

Данная статья посвящена книге чешского философа Йиржинe Попеловой-Отагаловой (1904-985). Книга называется «Распад классической философии: Рождение современного философского раскола» (Rozpad klasické filosofie: Vznik soudobého filosofického schizmatu, 1968). В этой книге Попелова предлагает концепцию развития европейской философии, начиная с середины XIX в., в двух линиях. С одной стороны, это линия сциентизма, а с другой-линия иррационализма. Именно среди философов-иррационалистов Попелова приводит также имя Фёдора Михайловича Достоевского. В чем, по мнению Попеловой, состоит особенность Достоевского как философа иррационализма и предшественника экзистенциализма.

Die im jungen Piper Verlag erschienenen Werke Dostojevskijs waren nicht nur die erste deutschsprachige Gesamtausgabe des Autors, sondern auch die über Jahrzehnte populärste im deutschen Sprachraum. Diese Untersuchung beschäftigt sich mit der detaillierten Analyse der Übersetzung in der Gesamtausgabe im direkten Vergleich mit dem Original. Die Vorworte und Einleitungen, die unter anderem von Arthur Moeller van den Bruck und Dmitrij Sergejevič Merežkovskij verfasst wurden, ermöglichen den Einblick in die persönliche Ebene der Verfasser und deren Meinung zu Dostojevskij, Russland und Deutschland. Im Verlauf der Gesamtausgabe werden negative Beschreibungen der Deutschen an vielen Stellen verschönert, während die Änderungen in den Charakteristiken der Russen sich in die Phasen vor, während und nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg einordnen lassen. An manchen Stellen fehlen ganze Absätze, einige neue wurden hinzugeschrieben.  Insgesamt lassen sich bei der Analyse eindeutige Strukturen und Trends erkennen. Eines der Hauptziele dieser Arbeit ist die Absichtlichkeiten hinter den einzelnen Auffälligkeiten nachzuweisen.
