Resumen: En el presente trabajo se analizan algunas de las principales consecuencias artísticas del proceso de reforma espiritual al que la Orden de Predicadores se habría visto sometida a fines de la Edad Media, entre las que destacan la creación de espacios arquitectónicos específicos y el empleo recurrente de determinados temas iconográficos. Palabras clave: Observancia. Orden de Predicadores. Reforma espiritual. Patronazgo artístico. Iconografía. Abstract: The present paper focuses on the analysis of the some of the main artistic consequences of the process of the Order of Preacher's reform at the end of the Middle Ages, among which the creation of specific architectonic spaces and the recurrent use of certain iconographic themes may be highlighted.

The research project Arte y reformas religiosas en la España medieval aims to explore the most representative cases in which the reforms of the Catholic Church that took place between the 11th and the 15th centuries influenced the art production of the Christian kingdoms on the Iberian Peninsula. Conferences

The purpose of the workshop is to gather scholars who are carrying on innovative approaches to Dominican convents and nunneries in Spain and Portugal.
The study of the architecture and the ornamentation of Mendicant convents has been deeply renewed during the last two decades. Art historians are progressively abandoning a mere technical and stylistic approach to the architecture and the decoration of churches and conventual buildings by focusing the reflection on functional, social and symbolic factors which conditioned their design. This new research tendency regards not only friars’ convents, but also, on the wave of the “gender studies”, nunneries linked to the Mendicant families.
The new questionings are concerned with function of spaces and decoration, in relation to liturgy, burying, and to social and even political activities convents and nunneries housed. They lead art historians to have an interdisciplinary dialogue with scholars from other fields (historians, liturgists, musicologists, archaeologists, anthropologists), and to exploit new kind of sources.

The church of the monastery of Santa María de Nájera is the result of a series of building projects that took place over the course of the fifteenth century during the time of Prior Pedro Martínez de Santa Coloma and Prior Gonzalo de Cabredo, and the time when Pablo Martinez of Uruñuela was first prior and subsequently abbot. In the present paper, new information on these construction phasesis provided through the documental analysis of the building, and especially of the information offered by the Libro segundo de censos, preserved in the Archivo Histórico Nacional, which enable the entire process to be contextualised and dated with a degree of precision and also provide the names of some of the masters and stonemasons responsible for the works, as well as their cost.
