The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the online delivery of an affective curriculum for gifted and talented youth to gain further understanding of its effectiveness and perceived advantages and disadvantages of delivering affective curriculum online. Using convergent parallel mixed-methods design, we evaluated data from 38 secondary education students and 4 camp counselors to examine their experiences with the online delivery of an affective curriculum. We found the curriculum effectively increased students' self-perceptions, planning, and self-monitoring. Further, camp counselors generally perceived the online delivery to be effective and identified several benefits of online delivery, such as increased access and easier differentiating. Yet, they continued to prefer a face-to-face delivery where possible. Implications for practice are discussed.

The purpose of this study is to explore school counselors' experiences migrating counseling services online during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using a transcendental phenomenological approach, we conducted in-depth interviews with 14 school counselors with a focus on the use of technology and transformative practices. Findings of the study included five composite themes: (a) changes in school counseling services using technology; (b) reaching families for equity; (c) changes in relationship with stakeholders; (d) school counselors’ adjustment to grief, loss, and role confusion; and (e) positive outcomes for the future. We discuss the essence of the lived experience and implications for school counselors.

This research study utilizes multi-source data to examine the relationship between vacation search on Google and the happiness index. Big data regarding vacation searches were extracted from Google Trends and happiness index values were obtained from publicly available sources. States in the USA are the unit of analysis. Regression models were applied as the statistical method. Personal income was employed as a control variable to exclude income level impact on the relationship between the predictor and the outcome variables. The study findings revealed that vacation search on Google is used as a momentary mood alignment tool to escape from daily stress or daily unhappiness, particularly work-related. On a similar note, this study contributes to the research literature by addressing not only vacation itself but also vacation search, which can be interpreted as planning and/or dreaming about a vacation through searching on the Internet (in this study, via Google), can be used as a method by individuals to seek "feeling good". It is suggested that the role of vacation with its stages pre-, during, and after should be highlighted in happiness indexes and quality of life batteries. In this study, the role of the pre-stage of vacation (dreaming and/or planning via search on Google) was examined. Future studies can investigate other stages of vacation in relation to sub-metrics of happiness and quality of life concepts. Future research can also apply survey-based cross-sectional methods to identify true underpinnings and magnitude levels of the relationship among variables of this study.

Limited research has focused on exploring the collaboration between home and school to address cyberbullying. In this qualitative study, we interviewed 17 school counselors to explore their experiences working with parents and caregivers in addressing cyberbullying. We identified four themes: (a) connections with parents and families, (b) digital citizenship, (c) blurred boundaries, and (d) family/counselor support. We discuss the themes and offer implications for school counselors to address cyberbullying in schools, including highlighting strategies for bridging the gap between families and schools through policies and communication about cyberbullying.

Having command of formulaic language, one of the linguistic elements related to the culture, is critical for self-expression and understanding the interlocutor. Thus counselors who are ESL (English as a Second Language) learners might benefit from having skills in formulaic language for providing quality service to their clients. Audio-visual materials which mostly contain formulaic language forms and cultural aspects might be used to help counseling sessions be more helpful and effective. This multidisciplinary study aims at presenting a brief review of the literature about formulaic language and multicultural counseling and then discussing the possible effect of integrating TV shows into ESL classes in the connection between counselor and client. In conclusion we suggest that TV shows might be effective tools to boost figurative language skills and to encourage immersion of ESL learners into culture, which is interrelated with conceiving cultural aspects of communication. As an implication, we present possible approaches to curriculum design, multicultural counseling and teaching English for specific purposes.
