Internationalisation of the curriculum

La internacionalización del currículo (IdC) toma cada vez más relevancia en la educación superior. Recientemente, su conceptualización e implementación evolucionaron hacia escenarios con mayor impacto para
la comunidad académica, teniendo en cuenta que una población limitada tiene acceso a procesos de movilidad física.
En este contexto, la IdC se ha posicionado como un mecanismo para
las instituciones de educación superior (IES) que posibilita el desarrollo
de competencias globales en los educandos a través de la perspectiva
internacional, comprehensiva y articulada con las necesidades locales,
apropiada e implementada por distintos niveles de las instituciones educativas para generar escenarios sostenibles y globalizados.
Este artículo explora una práctica implementada por dos IES colombianas para desarrollar acciones colaborativas de IdC. Se trata de una
comunidad de apoyo para clases espejo, cuyo propósito es acompañar a los participantes en la apropiación de estrategias de colaboración
académica en entornos virtuales como mecanismo para fortalecer competencias interculturales.

Literary translation is of great importance as it enables literature from various countries
and cultures to be accessible to a broader international audience. This article focuses on
literary translation in the field of children’s and young adult literature, with ‘Inkheart’ by
Cornelia Funke highlighted as a prime example. This work is not only popular in Germany
but also enjoys international acclaim, as evidenced by the multitude of its translations,
including the Albanian version. ‘Inkheart’ is distinguished by its fascinating fantastical
elements, which are particularly popular among readers. The original German text is char
acterized by its linguistic diversity and artistic expression. However, translating it into Al
banian and other languages poses challenges, as certain nuanced words and phrases are
difficult to convey, highlighting the complexity and significance of literary translation.
This article aims to illuminate the specific challenges involved in translating artistic ex
pressions including metaphors, similes, idioms, and phraseological turns—from the orig
inal German version into Albanian. It centers on a detailed comparative analysis between
the German original text and its Albanian translation, incorporating theoretical aspects of
literary translation, particularly in children’s and young adult literature. Special attention
is given to the linguistic transfer of metaphors and stylistic elements, which are not only of
aesthetic importance but also contribute significantly to the understanding and interpretation of the text. This comparative examination also reveals the characteristic differences
in language patterns and expressions between German and Albanian.

Gradually, this cooperation has become more complex, giving rise to a new concept-the internationalisation of higher education. Supported by the development of technology and the increasing liberalisation of borders, cooperation in education has evolved from bilateral agreements to consortia of universities and eventually to European universities. Created at the initiative of the European Commission in 2017, European Universities are transnational alliances that over the last four years have brought about a paradigm shift in inter-university cooperation. This paper aims to discuss the participation of the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest (UTCB) in a European consortium, and its contribution to internationalisation at the institutional level. We will try to identify the advantages of being a member of this alliance, as well as the dif iculties encountered throughout the cooperation and the means to overcome them.

The article offers the teaching team a range of recommendations to enhance the internationalization of the program's curriculum. The text provides an in-depth exploration of curriculum internationalization within higher education institutions, offering insights into its importance, current efforts, challenges, and strategies for advancement. It begins by highlighting the ongoing process of internationalizing academic programs and acknowledges the disparities among institutions in achieving this goal. The benefits of internationalizing the curriculum are outlined, including improved intercultural and linguistic competencies among students and better preparation for the global workforce. Key areas of focus in curriculum internationalization efforts are identified, such as incorporating international content, developing intercultural competencies, and increasing flexibility in program offerings. The text also discusses challenges faced in this process, such as resource limitations and resistance to change, while emphasizing the commitment of universities to continue their efforts in internationalization. Furthermore, the text provides a detailed rubric for assessing progress in curriculum internationalization within an undergraduate program, covering aspects such as the internationalization of graduate profiles, curriculum flexibility, integration of international learning outcomes in program subjects, implementation of learning strategies to foster international competencies, and application of assessments allowing measurement of international learning outcomes. Recommendations for advancing curriculum internationalization are presented, including the incorporation of international learning outcomes into graduate profiles, development of curriculum flexibility, alignment of international learning outcomes with program subjects, implementation of effective learning strategies, and application of diverse assessment methods.

Na vprašanje, kakšna je vloga visokošolskega kurikularnega načrtovanja, ni preprostega in enoznačnega odgovora, saj je visokošolsko izobraževanje kompleksen in funkcijsko heterogen sistem. Sestavlja ga množica različnih tipov izobraževalnih programov (univerzitetnih, visokostrokovnih, prvo- in drugostopenjskih, doktorskih), posebnost terciarnega izobraževanja pa je tudi v tem, da visokošolske izobraževalne institucije niso le izobraževalne, pač pa opravljajo tudi znanstvenoraziskovalno dejavnost, ki pomembno de- terminira njihovo izobraževalno vlogo. Prav tako je za visokošolski prostor značilna ustavno zagotovljena institucionalna in individualna akademska avtonomija, ki se med drugim odraža tudi v dejstvu, da – za razliko od se- kundarnega in zlasti primarnega izobraževanja – tudi sami izobraževalni pro- grami na terciarni stopnji nastajajo na institucionalni in ne na nacionalni oz. državni ravni, četudi morajo na ravni države prestati formalne akreditacijske postopke. Podobno je tudi s temeljnimi kurikularnimi dokumenti, ki tvorijo kurikularno podstat visokošolskih izobraževalnih programov, kot so deni- mo učni načrti: njihova strukturna zasnova je določena institucionalno (tj. na ravni posamezne univerze), medtem ko je njihova vsebina v pristojnosti posameznih nosilcev, ki nato študijski predmet, ki ga opredeljuje učni načrt, praviloma tudi sami izvajajo.
V tem poglavju vzpostavljamo širši teoretski in konceptualni kontekst, zno- traj katerega je mogoče misliti in presojati pristope k visokošolskemu kuriku- larnemu načrtovanju, pri čemer posebej analiziramo tudi nekatere okolišči- ne, v katerih načrtovanje programov in programskih enot poteka v Sloveniji. Ob tem predstavljamo tudi nekatere globalne kurikularne izzive, povezane z iskanjem kurikularnih rešitev v visokošolskem izobraževanju.

This article underscores the significance of international objectives in higher education curricular practices and aims to strengthen curriculum internationalisation. It advocates for skill development among educators, students, and staff to better manage resources and identify opportunities. The research, segmented into four stages: Diagnosis, Training, Relationship Building, and Monitoring, is based on a digital survey analysing international mobility, strategic relationships, and campus internationalisation activities. The results spotlight the necessity for efficient resource utilisation and illuminate the challenges of incorporating these practices within prevailing institutional structures. It concludes by stressing the need for adaptive, coordinated policies that agree with the international curriculum, underlines the importance of adjusting to various interdisciplinary fields, and calls for further research on different theoretical perspectives in curriculum internationalisation.

Institutions of higher education, national governments and (inter)national organizations have become more proactive, comprehensive, diverse, and innovative in their approaches to internationalization. Critical reflection on their outcomes, and in particular their impact on student learning, has resulted in a search for approaches to internationalization that have deeper meaning and greater impact. However, it is only relatively recently that questions related to the relationship between the internationalization of higher education, the curriculum and the disciplines have been explored in depth. Some of these questions are discussed, such as the relationship between ‘at home’ and ‘abroad’, the role of mobility, the role of contexts and the definition of internationalization of the curriculum.

In this paper, an attempt was made to locate the role of internationalisation in African Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). It is argued that comprehensive international, intercultural, and global dimensions in the affairs of African tertiary institutions provide for a more nuanced and diversified higher education landscape. Through a desk study approach, dwelling mainly on existing literature, the paper examines the issues of internationalisation from the perspectives of diversity and inclusion, as well as the roles of the relevant key players within those institutions to practically deliver internationalisation strategies that will put the institution on a global pedestal while remaining locally and regionally relevant. Like so many people, my life is inundated with children. Online media increasingly allow technical and professional communication (TPC) programs to engage in international collaborations. For such undertakings to be successful, program administrators must address different aspects affecting international online exchanges. Doing so requires effective discussions between program administrators and the stakeholders involved in the internationalization process. Internationalization processes are at the fore of university strategic plans on a global scale. However, the work of internationalization is being performed through the connections between many actors at different policy levels. Our purpose here is to ask, what is happening with internationalization of higher education at the Canadian national policy level? To do so, we suggest that we must look at policies at the national level not as individual entities but rather as these policies exist in relation to each other. We examine three recent policy statements from different organizations at the national level in Canada: a federal governmental agency, a pan-Canadian provincial organization and a national educational association. This paper analyses faculty experiences tackling global knowledge asymmetries by examining the decolonisation of higher education in Africa in the aftermath of the 2015 ‘Rhodes Must Fall’ student uprising. An overview of the literature reveals a rich debate on defining ‘decolonisation’, starting from a critique of Eurocentrism to propositions of alternate epistemologies. These debates are dominated by the Global North and South Africa and their experiences of curriculum reform. Our focus is on the experiences of political scientists in Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, and Zimbabwe. These countries share the same Anglophone political science traditions but represent different political trajectories that constitute a significant condition for the discipline. Students participating in mobility experiences have a great learning opportunity, but in many cases they hardly realise about the soft-competences they developed during mobility. In this context, the supporting role of universities is key for students to make the most of their mobility and be able to communicate their learning outcomes. This study analyses the support services that students receive for the development and acknolwledgement of mobility soft comptencies (related with the three dimensiones: knowledge, skills and attitudes or KSAs) in order to define the university strategy in this field.
