L’oppidum de Castelvielh, sur la commune de Sainte-Anastasie, présente une base de données fournie mais dispersée et jamais synthétisée. Le site en lui-même possède de nombreux témoins archéologiques sous forme d’artéfacts et de vestiges. Ces murs et clapas dessinent aujourd’hui le paysage de garrigue. Un regard averti permet de reconnaître « ici une rue, là des quartiers d’habitations, ou bien encore d'épais murs d’enceinte ». L’étude de ce site peut ainsi enrichir nos connaissances sur l’évolution géopolitique des Volques Arécomiques, menant progressivement d’un territoire géré par des oppida, à une cité organisée autour d’un chef-lieu.

Location of Medieval Kutina based on archaeological sites

Archaeological remains of medieval Kutina have not been fully elaborated. Before the establishment of the Moslavina Museum in the 1950s of 20th century, a reconnaissance of the site was carried out in the Moslavina area. In the narrow area of Kutina, the remains of three medieval fortresses were recorded, of which two are still visible today. The exact position of the third one was forgotten due to the urbanization of the city. In addition to the historical review of archaeological research and data on medieval Kutina, this article, reveals the exact position of this third fortress, the so-called Aušovo, although the question of accurate data is still open. Kaštel Kutina (the so-called Aušovo) was located in the park area between the buildings of Centar I and II and it could most likely be the castellum built by Ladislav Roh de Deche in 1470. The movable archaeological finds (from probe research or surface reconnaissance) give us rough but late dating for all three sites from 15th to the middle of 16th century. Such dating places these fortresses at times of intense social and economic turmoil with an increasing Ottoman threat. Were all these fortifications built during the 15th century as suggested by archeological material, or could some of them be the possible remains of the old centers of local estates mentioned under the names of Kutina (Donja, Gornja and Velika), fortifications that could have been erected during the second half of 13th or early 14th centuries? If the remains of the older church (foundation and part of the buttress) under the present parish church of St. Mary of Snow belonged to the church of All Saints mentioned in the middle of 14th century, then this space between the church and Turski stol could be what is mentioned in the charters as villa Kathenna or Great Kutina (Kote(n)nya maior), i.e. the oldest part of medieval Kutina, where the oppidum of Kutina was developed during the 15th century. The passage that Kutina closes is one of the strategic positions of Moslavina Mountain which is probably the reason why the settlement is located in this part along the Kutinica River. In addition to these fortifications, there are several forts of the same type in the wider area that could have formed a particular fortification system.

Der keltische Ringwall von Otzenhausen, genannt “Hunnenring” beschäftigt seit 200 Jahren
die archäologische Fachwelt. Als Forschungsobjekt keltischer Festungsbaukunst seit dem späten 19. Jh. dienend,
zogen diese Arbeiten Erklärungsversuche hinsichtlich seiner baulichen Entwicklung nach sich. Vor allem die intensiven
Arbeiten seit Neuaufnahme der archäologischen Feldforschungen ab 1999 erbrachten zunehmende Erkenntnisse
zur Genese eines, sich aus einer Abschnittsbefestigung entwickelnden Ringwalls mit angehendem Oppidum
Charakter. Der Autor liefert einen Überblick über die bisherigen Arbeiten und Entwicklungsmodelle. Er stellt weiterhin
ein auf den neuesten Forschungen summierendes Entwicklungsmodell zur Diskussion.

A large scale research project Celtic Coin Finds from Switzerland has recently been published. The assessment shows numerous aspects of the diverse coin use in regional, chronological and functional respect. Some of the results are presented here.

Silchester (Calleva Atrebatum) is a Roman town in Hampshire, in central southern Britain. Unlike many the site was abandoned in the post-Roman period leaving it as a largely green-field site now. The Amphitheatre, Town Wall and some Outer Defences all remain visible for the visitor to see. The town has been highly influential in the development of Romano-British archaeology due to the large-scale excavation by the Society of Antiquaries in 1890-1908 developed an overall plan of the site.
This volume draws together for the first time all the fieldwork known to have taken place from the earliest located trenches in the 1720s up until the modern campaigns of Michael Fulford (1974-present). The cut-off date is 2013. It integrates this work with a new geophysical survey of the interior and vicinity to provide a new overarching narrative for the town.
The volume starts with a historiography of work on the city from earliest antiquarian investigations through to recent campaigns; and this sense of historiography and changing interpretations of the site permeates the later discussion, showing how new discoveries have transformed understandings.
The core of the volume contains the empirical data. Work has taken place digitising all the past excavation plans, and combining this with other datasets including: two major fieldwalking campaigns, the aerial photographic plots, landscape analysis from earlier maps from the Ordnance Survey and earlier sources, LiDAR, other mapping data, and finally with 217 ha of new geophysical prospection in and around the town. An atlas has been created which shows these data in a variety of formats, together with a detailed text outlining all the past interventions within each sheet, and providing a summary of the discoveries together with references to their later reinterpretation where relevant.
The final sections provide essays in interpretation, with thematic reviews of: the defences and linear earthworks; the development of the oppidum; the interpretation of Roman military metalwork; an interpretation of the evidence for the mortuary landscape of the town; discussions of urban infrastructure, trade, industry and pubic entertainment. Finally a narrative overview is provided seeing how the town’s remains have been interpreted within an historical setting.
There are methodological innovations differentiating the signal strength of features in the fluxgate gradiometry data to map ‘hotspots’ representing possible cremations pyre areas, middens, and industrial activities to develop our understanding of the mortuary landscape and also that of shops and workshops within the towns; these techniques could readily be applied to other large-scale surveys of Roman cities which have already been undertaken.
The work provides the first overall synthesis of the city since Boon (1974). The new work includes a significantly revised impression of the development and chronology of the earthworks surrounding the town; mapping of all the Later Iron Age finds and evidence for the development of the street grid from both excavation data and geophysics; it has discovered several new cemetery areas including a series of large Later Iron Age or early Roman burial enclosures. Features are found which may represent elusive evidence for large-scale tanning operations near the town; and there are traces on the gravel terrace edge of a series of parallel lines which may be indicative of a circus, though ground-truthing is required to test that.
The overall urban assessment and synthesis enables Silchester to be seen alongside the other recent comprehensive reviews of major cities in south-east Britain, such as Verulamium (Niblett and Thompson 2005) and Colchester (Radford et al. 2013).

Dans le cadre de la construction du futur musée du MuséoParc Alésia et à la suite du diagnostic positif de 2007 (S. Venault), une opération de fouille archéologique préventive a pris place sur l’ensemble des terrains affectés à ce projet. Elle s'est déroulée du 31 mars au 27 juin 2014 sur une étendue de 7’800 m2, située dans le nord de la commune d’Alise Sainte-Reine, à quelques dizaines de mètres de la statue de Vécingétorix. L’objectif principal était de vérifier plusieurs hypothèses émises à la suite des fouilles programmées du milieu des années quatre-vingt-dix. Ces dernières concernaient l’entrée occidentale de l’enceinte gauloise ponctuellement reconnue et le tracé d’une voie d’accès à la cité mandubienne, souvent évoqué mais jamais attesté.

Les plus anciennes traces d’occupation révélées au cours de cette opération se rapportent à l’âge du Bronze et sont matérialisées par quelques trouvailles résiduelles, hors contexte.

Pour la période gauloise, les vestiges sont plus nombreux et matérialisés, notamment, par un abondant mobilier numismatique, de vastes fosses à surcreusement et quelques trous de poteaux dont il est impossible d’extraire un plan.

Les fouilles de 2014 ont tout d'abord permis de dégager un tronçon de voirie, reconnu comme l’accès principal occidental de l’oppidum. Cet aménagement - une voie à ornières creusées dans le roc - était recherché depuis des décennies ; il a pu être attesté sur au moins 105 m, selon un axe sud-nord.
Parallèlement à cet axe, plusieurs aménagements réglant l’organisation des coteaux terreux du petit thalweg affectant cette partie du site ont été enregistrés. Ils sont postérieurs à l’époque romaine.
Un second axe viaire, inédit lui aussi, a été mis au jour, perpendiculairement au premier, selon une orientation est-ouest. Réduit à une dépression lisible dans le roc soulignée d’ornières irrégulières dans la partie pentue, le cheminement prend la forme d’une chaussée à radier hérissonné sitôt arrivé sur le plat, en direction de l’est. Sa jonction indubitable avec la voie nord-sud n’a pas été observée. Le tracé devait rejoindre le groupe de structures excavées fouillées dans les années 1910.

Affleurante par endroits et sous très faible couverture sur une large majorité du champ de fouille, la surface rocheuse mise au jour par les décapages mécaniques a livré plusieurs locaux semi-enterrés. Ces derniers présentent différents états de fonctionnement et degrés de qualité de facture. Ce petit ensemble complète le groupement fouillé dès 1910 par V. Pernet (Toutain 1910), situé à l’est du champ de fouille et connu sous l’appellation de « village gaulois ».

Sur la partie haute du secteur de fouille, plusieurs bâtiments maçonnés se sont installés à la faveur d’une dépression locale dans le rocher. Cette dernière, comblée d’une marne compacte, semble avoir constitué un lieu de prédilection, concentrant à elle seule une part importante des découvertes de 2014.
Les vestiges de deux (ou trois) bâtiments gallo-romains ont été reconnus. Construits sur fondations de pierres, certains d'entre eux empiètent partiellement sur des fosses antérieures. Il s’agit de constructions quadrangulaires, reposant sur des fondations étroites, parfois sous forme de hérisson. Le plan de ces constructions, visiblement modifié et complété à plusieurs reprises, reste incomplet, la faute à l’arasement du site et à la récupération des matériaux. Les constructions ne sont pas systématiquement associées à des niveaux de circulation, souvent disparus. Vouées à l’habitat et situées à quelques 400 m à l’ouest du centre de l’agglomération, elles peuvent être assimilées aux constructions des faubourgs dont les bâtisses ont été révélées (mais non fouillées) lors de prospections aériennes. Les indices chronologiques fournis par la fouille situent la construction des édifices vers le début du Ier siècle après J.-C. et leur abandon au cours de la seconde moitié du IIIe siècle. Toutes les constructions ne sont pas contemporaines, mais le manque de connexion stratigraphique empêche de définir des relations claires.

Zusammenfassung-Der Aufsatz will weniger die späteisenzeitliche Besiedlungsgeschichte Süddeutschlands-das 2./1. Jh. v. Chr., die Zeit der Oppida-Revue passieren lassen, geschweige denn feinchronologische Argumente gegeneinander abwägen. Vielmehr soll ein Überblick über rund 120 Jahre Forschungsgeschichte zeigen, dass archäologische Wissenschaft keine unschuldige Suche nach Wahrheit ist, sondern ein gesellschaftliches Produkt, abhängig von soziokulturellen und politischen Bedingungen. Ein treffendes Beispiel dafür ist die deutsche Eisenzeitarchäologie nach 1945, die einerseits durch den radikalen Bruch mit der Germanenforschung des Nationalsozialis-mus geprägt wurde, andererseits durch die Kontinuität wissenschaftlicher Traditionen wie der ethnisch-historischen Interpretation ‚archäo-logischer Kulturen'. Beide Perspektiven bestimmten das neue Großprojekt ‚Oppidum Manching', das 1955 startete. Zwei Aspekte bildeten die Dreh-und Angelpunkte der Diskussion, die Chronologie und die davon unmittelbar abhängige Frage nach einer keltisch-römischen kulturellen Kontinuität. Obwohl schon seit den 1930er Jahren offensichtlich war, dass das Ende der Oppida auch einen massiven Besied-lungsrückgang bedeutet hatte, weil-im Unterschied zu Gallien-rechts des Rheins jede archäologische Spur einer kulturellen Synthese fehlt, hielten die führenden Eisenzeitforscher der ersten Generation Zeit ihres Lebens unbeirrt an dem Postulat einer Bevölkerungskonti-nuität zwischen Spätlatènezeit und früher Römischer Kaiserzeit fest. Ihre argumentative Basis blieb eine Chronologie, die sich nicht auf empirisch gewonnene archäologische Parameter, sondern auf schriftlich überlieferte historische Ereignisse berief. Spätere Versuche, die Kontinuität auch naturwissenschaftlich zu untermauern, scheiterten an der unzureichenden Datenlage. Archäologisch begründete Gegen-argumente stießen von Anfang an auf Ignoranz oder gar aggressive Ablehnung. All das wirft eindringlich die wissenschaftsgeschichtliche Frage auf, warum und wie sich ein methodisch so fragwürdiges Wissen zur nicht hinterfragbaren ‚Wahrheit' verdichten konnte, die sich noch bis in die nächste und übernächste Generation behauptete. Eine Antwort bietet M. Foucaults diskurstheoretischer Ansatz mit seiner Betonung der disziplinären Macht. Ein Längsschnitt durch sechs Phasen der Diskursgeschichte zu Chronologie und Kontinuität der Späten Eisenzeit Süddeutschlands verrät, welche Instanzen und welche Akteure diese Macht ausübten und mit welchen Praktiken sie aufrechter-halten wurde. Erst seit etwa 20 Jahren hat sich der Diskurs gewandelt, und seit etwa zehn Jahren kann man von einem Paradigmenwech-sel sprechen, d. h. neue chronologische Erkenntnisse, die mit einer Diskontinuität vereinbar sind, setzen sich allmählich durch. Der Konti-nuitätsdiskurs in der Archäologie der Eisenzeit nach 1945 ist ein Beispiel, das sich auf viele Bereiche der Forschung übertragen ließe: ein Beispiel für wissenschaftliche Traditionen, die im Nationalsozialismus beschädigt wurden, aber wie alle derartigen Beschädigungen nach 1945 nie reflektiert worden sind und deshalb mit allen Mitteln disziplinärer Macht der alten Ordinarienuniversität verteidigt wurden; ein Beispiel für die Macht der Eliten, das ‚Sagbare und Denkbare' zu regeln, abweichendes Wissen mit Sanktionen zu belegen und auf diese Weise wissenschaftlichen Fortschritt zu verhindern. Abstract-The intention of the paper is less to recall to mind the settlement history of southern Germany in the late Iron Age-the 2 nd /1 st century B.C., the era of the Oppida-let alone weigh up fine-chronology arguments against each other. Its aim is more to provide an overview of around 120 years of research history in order to show that archaeological research is not an innocent search for the truth, but a product of society, dependent on socio-cultural and political conditions. A fitting example for this is the post-1945 German archaeology of the Iron Age, which was characterised on the one hand by the radical break with the research on the ancient Germans undertaken under National Socialism, and on the other by the continuity of academic traditions such as the ethno-historical interpretation of 'archaeological cul-tures'. These two perspectives characterised 'Oppidum Manching', the major new project which began in 1955. The discussion cen tered on two key aspects, the chronology and the question of a Celtic-Roman cultural continuity which is directly dependent thereon. Al though it had been obvious since the 1930s that the end of the Oppida would also have meant a massive drop in population because-in contrast to Gaul-all archaeological trace of a cultural synthesis is lacking on the right-hand side of the Rhine, the leading Iron Age re searchers of the first generation stuck unerringly to the postulate of a population continuity between the late La Tène period and the early Roman Imperial Era. The basis of their argument remained a chronology which depended not on empirically gained archaeological parameters, but on historical events documented in written records. Later attempts to provide a scientific foundation for this continuity failed due to the lack of sufficient data. Archaeologically justified counter-arguments met with ignorance or even aggressive rejection right from the start. All this throws up the question from a history of science perspective as to why and how knowledge which is methodologically so questionable could take root and become an unquestionable 'truth' which survived to the next generation and the one after that. An answer is provided by M. Foucault's approach to discourse theory with its emphasis on the power wielded by the academic discipline. A timeline through six phases of the discourse history on the chronology and continuity of the late Iron Age in southern Germany reveals which authorities and which players exercised this power and the methods they employed to maintain it. The discourse has changed only during the last 20 years or so, and the term paradigm shift can be applied only for the last ten years approximately, i. e. new chronological findings which are compatible with a discon-tinuity are gradually gaining the upper hand. The continuity discourse in the post-1945 archaeology of the Iron Age is one example which could be transferred to many areas of research: an example for scientific traditions which were damaged under National Socialism, but like all such damage have never been given any thought after 1945 and were therefore defended with all the means available to the disciplinary power of the old German university structure wherein professors wielded sole power; an example for the power of the elites to control 'what can be said and what can be thought', to impose sanctions for knowledge which deviated from this and thus prevent scientific progress.

En este trabajo vamos a analizar cómo se produce
la construcción del territorio en el caso del oppidum
de Monte Bernorio. A partir de este modelo
analizaremos los diferentes tipos de estructura territorial
que articulan las distintas etnias del cantábrico
central y sus estructuras políticas, desde las
estructuras de relación, representación y gobierno
meramente familiares a las locales, tipo castro, llegando
hasta la etnia y macro-etnia. Realizaremos
un análisis general de las pautas de construcción
territorial y política conocidas que esperemos pueda
servir para establecer similitudes y diferencias
con otros ámbitos territoriales.

The aim of this work is to analyze how the
construction of the territory is produced in the case
of Monte Bernorio’s oppidum. From this model, we
will analyze the different kinds of territorial structure
that articulate different ethnic groups in Central
Cantabric Area, and its political structures, from
their merely familiar relationship, representation
and government structures, to their local
structures, Castro type, to reach ethnic groups and
macroethnicity. We will make a general analysis of
known territorial and political construction models,
that we hope could help to establish both similarities
and differences with other territorial fields.

Les recherches menées sur le site de Vié-Cioutat entre 1966 et 1979 ont permis de reconnaître quatre grandes phases d’occupation du site, du Néolithique à l’âge du Fer : Néolithique final (Vié-Cioutat 0), du milieu du Ve s. à la fin du IVe s. av. J.-C. (Vié-Cioutat I), de la fin du IIe s. av. J.-C. à Auguste (Vié-Cioutat II) et du dernier quart du Ier s. av. J.-C. à la seconde moitié du IIe s. apr. J.-C. (Vié-Cioutat III). Cet article concerne le premier village qui permet d’illustrer l’originalité de la région sous-cévenole
par rapport, notamment, aux habitats du Languedoc oriental plus proches de la Méditerranée. C’est une agglomération peu dense de maisons en torchis sur solins de pierres et poteaux porteurs, occupées durant des laps de temps assez courts, coexistant avec des terrains non bâtis, dépourvue d’une enceinte bâtie. Elle est habitée par des agriculteurs-éleveurs, et les échanges avec les contrées proches de la côte, où circulent les produits importés du domaine marseillais, apparaissent ici limités. Elle s’éteint vers 300 av. J.-C. et la maison la plus récente retrouvée est abandonnée brusquement car les habitants ont laissé sur place leur attirail culinaire. Cet abandon correspond à une phase de déprise de l’occupation humaine propre à cet arrière-pays, en total contraste avec la partie méridionale du Languedoc oriental.

The research carried out on the site of Vié-Cioutat between 1966 and 1979 allowed to recognize four phases of occupation of the site, during the Neolithic (Vié-Cioutat 0), from the middle of the fifth century to the end of the fourth century BC (Vié-Cioutat I), from the end of the second century BC to Augustus (Vié-Cioutat II), and from the last quarter of the 1st century BC to the second half of the second century of our era (Vied-Cioutat III). This article concerns the first village that illustrates the originality of the sub-Cevennes region, compared to the settlements of eastern Languedoc, closer to the Mediterranean Sea. It is a sparsely populated agglomeration, without defensive walls, with houses built of mud, occupied for a relatively short period of time, that coexist with open spaces. It is occupied by farmers-breeders, and the tradewith the coastal lands, where circulates products imported from the field of Marseilles, seems limited here. It is abandoned around 300 BC and the most recently occupied house is abandoned abruptly. This abandonment corresponds to a period of decline in human occupation peculiar to this hinterland, contrasting with the southern part of Eastern Languedoc.

Obwohl im Bereich des keltischen Oppidums auf dem
Donnersberg bereits seit den 1970er Jahren zahlreiche
Ausgrabungen durchgeführt worden waren, hatte dabei
keine der fünf als Zangentore erkennbaren Toranlagen
eine Untersuchung erfahren. 2011 wurde das Südosttor
des Oppidums archäologisch untersucht. Vergleichbar der
Umfassungsmauer der spätkeltischen Stadt lag auch in der
Torgasse hinter den Zangenmauern ein im Gelände noch auf
einer Länge von 6 m sichtbarer Erdwall. Die Ausgrabung erbrachte
interessante Ergebnisse. So ließ sich an der nördlichen, noch
maximal 1,10 cm hoch erhaltenen Torwange die Konstruktion
der Gassenwand als Pfostenschlitzmauer anhand einiger
Pfostenschlitze eindeutig nachweisen; allerdings waren hier
die Frontpfosten erheblich schmächtiger als in der Stadtmauer.
Nach zwölf Metern bogen die Torzangen rechtwinklig um und
bildeten eine ca. 3 m lange Abschlussmauer für die Erdrampe
hinter den Zangenmauern. Dieser Abschluss der Wallrampe
durch eine Fortsetzung der Zangentormauer ist auch von einigen
anderen Oppida durchaus bekannt. Ungewöhnlich dagegen
war der Fund von vier mächtigen Pfostengruben direkt an bzw.
hinter dem eigentlichen Oppidum-Tor; diese Gruben enthielten
offenbar die Trägerpfosten eines Torhauses, das aber nicht, wie
bei den meisten der nachgewiesenen Torbauten an keltischen
Stadtanlagen über, sondern hinter der Torgasse errichtet worden
war. Die bislang einzige Analogie hierzu stellt die Toranlage des
Oppidums Frankenbourg im Elsass dar.

Szolnok középkoráról nagyon kevés történeti és régészeti forrás áll a kutatás rendelkezésére. Ebből fakadóan megállapításaink döntő részét nem tudjuk bizonyítani, jobbára feltételezésekre hagyatkozunk. A legkorábban az 1020–1030-as évekre keltezhető várispánsági- és vármegyeközpont a vársziget keleti felén azonosítható. A valószínűleg föld-fa szerkezetű sáncokkal ellátott, az őskörnyezeti rekonstrukció alapján szabálytalan négyszög alaprajzú, ~3,2 ha belterületű erősség a Magyar Királyság nagyobb ispáni várai közé tartozik. A kisebb, falusias jellegű település az ispáni vár sáncain belül, esetleg a Zagyva keleti ágának túlpartján, a téglából épített, egyhajós, román stílusú, feltehetően Szent Mihály-titulusú egyház környékén lehetett. A megyeközpont 1241-ben áldozatul esett a mongol inváziónak, bár tartósan nem néptelenedett el. A tatárjárást követően ugyanis telepeseket költöztettek ide, akik azonban az addigitól eltérő helyszínen, a nyugati Zagyva-ág jobb oldali partján, egy korábban lakatlan, illetőleg gyéren lakott területen vetették meg a lábukat. A funkcióját ellátni képtelen földvárat 1550 őszéig felhagyták, ellenben a Zagyva-parti plébániatemplomot újjáépítették, amely temetőkápolnaként működött tovább. Az áthelyeződött településmag központjában, a Pestről Debrecenbe vezető főút/országút által kettévágott piac/vásártér északi felén, a XIII–XIV. század fordulóján, román stílusban emelték Szolnok első kőtemplomát. A települést a levéltári dokumentumok a XV. század elejéig még faluként említik, viszont a század első harmadának végén gyarapodásának fontosabb állomásait fémjelzi a mezővárosi státusz elnyerése és kiváltságai (1422, 1429). Külső-Szolnok megye székhelyének fejlődése ezt követően sem torpant meg, amiben döntő szerepet játszott, hogy csaknem 90 esztendeig, 1438-tól 1526-ig egyetlen főnemesi család, a Pálóciak birtokolják. A bárói família szolnoki jelenlétéről, tevékenységéről napjainkig nem lett feltárva semmi, holott okkal feltételezhető, hogy egyik tagja, Pálóci Imre – aki előbb Mátyás király pohárnokmestere, majd lovászmestere volt – az 1470-es években kimagasló reprezentációs „beruházásokat” folytatott itt. Személyéhez köthetőek a mezőváros piac/vásárterének legmeghatározóbb építkezései: egy impozáns méretű (40x20 m), gótikus, bizonyára háromhajós, szentélykörüljárós, vagy ál-szentélykörüljárós csarnoktemplom emeltetése, a korábbi, még a romanika stílusjegyeit hordozó egyház elbontását követően, annak helyén, illetőleg köveinek felhasználásával. Az új plébániatemplom szomszédságában, a piac/vásártér déli felén szintén a lovászmester kezdeményezésére egy udvarház is létesült, ahol a megyében fekvő birtokaikból megszervezett szolnoki Pálóci-uradalom központja sejthető, ámbátor az ide látogató földesúr, és családja lakhelye ugyanitt valószínűsíthető. A megyeszékhelyen kizárólag a gótikus templom és az udvarház építőanyagát alkotta kő. Amikor a két piac/vásártéri épület elkészült, már egy olyan Szolnok fölé magasodtak, amely – a régebben körvonalazott álláspontoktól eltérően, a városkritérium-rendszer pontszámaira tekintettel – addigi, közel 500 éves történelmében első alkalommal, a város kategória határáig jutott, sőt alighanem át is lépte. Tur/Nagytur (Mezőtúr) után Külső-Szolnok megye második legjelentősebb központi helyének számított, népessége cca. 750–800 főt tett ki. Nem bizonyult tehát helytállónak az a néhány szakember által favorizált elképzelés, sőt éppen az ellenkezője igaz annak, amely Szolnokot a környező települések – köztük a Tisza túlparti Varsány/Tiszavarsány – árnyékában lévő, eljelentéktelenedő mezővárosként jellemezte. Pálóci Imre nemcsak sokat építkezett Szolnokon, hanem 1483-ban bekövetkezett halála után itt helyezték örök nyugalomra. Síremlékét az általa alapított gótikus plébániatemplomban állították fel. Temetkezési helyének kiválasztásában megfontolandó érvként eshetett latba, hogy ő volt ennek az egyházi intézménynek a kegyura. Kvalitásos, vörösmárványból faragott, egészalakos sírkövének, amely egy koporsó formájú tumbát fedett le, egy töredéke a várszigeten került felszínre. Az unikális kőfaragómunka – amelyet az 1480-as években készítettek a budai kőfaragóműhelyben, és onnan szállítottak a Tisza-parti mezővárosba – kulcsfontosságú szerepet játszik, mind helytörténeti vonatkozásban, mind a magyarországi késő középkori, lovagalakos síremlékek időrendjének meghatározásában egyaránt. Szolnok fellendülése ugyanakkor nem bizonyult tartósnak. A kedvező folyamatok az Imre-féle ág kihalása után megrekedtek, majd miután a Pálóci família utolsó férfisarja, a nőtlen és gyermektelen Antal a mohácsi csatában elesett, darabokra hullottak. Az elkövetkező évtizedekben településünk már csupán árnyéka volt egykori önmagának, az 1552. évi oszmán foglalásért pedig egészen súlyos árat kellett fizetnie: 133 évre elszakadt az anyaországtól.

The Celtic coins from the oppidum of Pohanská in Plavecké Podhradie in system of the "monetary convention" of the central European Celts in the latest phase of the Late Iron Age.
The article presents the Celtic coins found in the fortified hill fort Pohanská, which now belongs to the Plavecké Podhradie village (south-west Slovakia). The hoard is not large in number of specimens, but the selection of coins and its importance makes it significant in connection of the Pohanská oppidum with the Boian territory and its coinage.

Résumé. Les recherches archéologiques récentes permettent de s’interroger sur les conditions d’apparition de deux capitales de cités du sud-ouest de la Gaule : Toulouse et Auch. Ces villes succèdent à un centre de pouvoir indigène qui, dans les deux cas, est abandonné après avoir emprunté la voie d’une certaine forme d’acculturation urbaine après la Conquête. Cette dernière prend la forme d’une mutation de l’architecture et des formes d’habitat. Ainsi, on observe non seulement l’adoption de techniques de constructions italiques mais aussi de modèles architecturaux et esthétiques. La situation change au tournant de l’ère avec la création de capitales, dont le programme urbanistique répond aux nouvelles exigences juridiques et administratives issues des réformes augustéennes.

Abstract. The recent archaeological researches lead us to wonder about the circumstances of the birth of two chief-towns in Southwestern Gaul: Toulouse and Auch. Both these towns succeeded an indigenous center of power, abandoned after going through some kind of urban acculturation after the Conquest. The latter is taking the shape of architectural and housing changes. Thus we can notice Italian building techniques are adopted, as well as esthetical and architectural models. The situation changes at the beginning of the Christian era, with the creation of capitals whose urbanistic program respond to the new administrative and legal requirements of the Augustan reforms.

RESUMEN. En este trabajo se elogia y defiende en primer lugar la habitualmente maltratada figura de Plinio el Viejo, y que los datos administrativos que usa sobre Hispania no son una copia servil de los de Agripa/Augusto (aunque muchos no habrían cambiado desde entonces) sino los de su propia época, los de la cancillería imperial, más sus valiosos apuntes sobre Hispania. Es absurdo creer que, siendo Plinio procurador de la Hispania Citerior, y conociendo bien la península en época flavia, se hubiera limitado a copiar los datos de la época de Augusto, aunque ésta viene siendo la 'communis opinio'.

Se efectúa a continuación un análisis filológico, jurídico e histórico de los términos y conceptos de ‘oppida’ y de ‘stipendiaria’, en otros autores antiguos y en la 'Naturalis Historia' pliniana, cuyo uso en sus resúmenes de las tres provincias hispanas (III.7, III.18 y IV.117) se analiza por primera vez al detalle, y minuciosamente (págs. 230-233).

Además de evidenciar que el tan manido concepto de ‘civitas stipendiaria’ NI EXISTE NI APARECE EN LOS TEXTOS PLINIANOS, se propone aquí que sus ‘oppida stipendiaria’ sólo pueden ser en realidad 'municipia', y que deben de ser aquellas ‘civitates peregrinae' que entre los años 69 y 77 d.C. ya habían obtenido el ‘ius Latii’ concedido por Vespasiano ‘universae Hispaniae’.

Esta concesión se negoció posiblemente, no en el año 73 d.C. (como es de nuevo lo más tradicional decir), sino en el propio año 69 d.C., con Vespasiano ‘iactatus procellis rei publicae’, esto es, bajo la fuerte presión de la guerra civil.  Lógicamente, luego hubo que efectuar un nuevo censo general de Hispania (la posible causa de la legación de Plinio), y preparar la promulgación de una ley-marco específica, apoyada en todos los precedentes. Éstos son para mí los 'leges, plebiscita senatusveconsulta, edicta, decreta, constitutiones' que cita la ‘Lex Irnitana' (passim) que habían regulado, aclarado y mejorado el ‘ius Latii’ desde la República. A mi juicio toda esa actualización estatutaria se produjo en los años inmediatamente posteriores al 69.

A diferencia de los 'Latini veteres' hispanos, citados también por Plinio como “de ‘Latium vetus’" u 'oppida Latio antiquitus donata' (dando por primera vez su verdadero valor adverbial a 'antiquitus': págs. 231 y 237), los 'Latini novi' serían ‘stipendiarii’, dado que el concepto republicano de ‘stipendiarium’ evolucionó con el tiempo y las nuevas situaciones.

Finalmente, en el 'Addendum' de la pág. 243 explicaba (a la colega Estela Fernández) por qué los ‘Latini veteres’ hispanos, o sea, las ciudades que ya eran latinas durante la República, que son 27 béticas, 18 tarraconenses y 3 lusitanas, gozarían del ‘Latium Maius’ republicano (restaurado más adelante por Adriano), mientras los ‘Latini novi’ de los Flavios recibían el ‘Latium Minus’. Me apoyaba para ello en uno de los ‘Fragmenta Augustodunensia’ (1.7) hasta entonces no invocado. Del mismo modo, mediante FA 1.6,  propuse que era un ‘beneficium generale’ y no individual (salvo algunos casos de concesiones viritanas). Otro asunto muy debatido en la bibliografía sobre la Hispania romana.

N.B.- Como todas las propuestas demasiado nuevas y heterodoxas, las varias que sugerí en este trabajo (que ya va a cumplir 20 años) han causado cierto recelo en los colegas que tratan del tema. Por ello es muy frecuente que no lo citen, o que lo den sin más como imposible (aunque a la vez  en ambos casos empiezan a utilizar aquello que ven más inapelable, como lo de "antiquitus", o el 'Latium maius'...). El problema de fondo es tener que renegar de las tan tradicionales “civitates stipendiariae flavias”, aunque éstas no existan más que en la bibliografía contemporánea, o en sus maestros y colegas.

Pero lo cierto y verdad es que ninguno de los pocos discrepantes se ha atrevido a afrontar el desmenuzamiento sintáctico de los párrafos plinianos que resumen las tres provincias como lo hice entonces (pp. 230-233). Quizá porque es cuando puede comprobarse que para los 'stipendiarium/a' de Plinio el Viejo en Hispania no hay más precedente sustantivo que 'municipium/a'. Esta evidencia me anima a seguir creyendo que mis propuestas tenían una base sólida, y que algún día saldrán adelante. Quizá cuando aparezca una prueba rotunda, acaso por fin el comienzo de la famosa 'Lex Flavia Municipalis'.

Abstract: The aim of this work is to analyse how the construction of the territory is produced in the case of Monte Bernorio’s oppidum. From this model, we will analyse the different kinds of territorial structure that articulate different ethnic groups in Central Cantabric Area, and its political structures, from their merely familiar relationship, representation and government structures, to their local structures, Castro type, to reach ethnic groups and macroethnicity. We will make a general analysis of known territorial and political construction models, that we hope could help to establish both similarities and differences with other territorial fields.

Useful elements have reconsider the marble cuirassed statue from Fuorigrotta (pagus of Naples) chronology and original position. On the basis of the available data the statue could be supposed to stand along the Via Puteolis-Neapolim per colles, near the bridge on the ancient San Lorenzo torrent, maybe as gift for emperor by the Fuorigrotta village: in fact, it actually reproduces an emperor (or a member of the royal family) of the middle of the 2nd century AD and the cuirass technical details and decorations show it. The sculpture, now in the Naples National Archaeological Museum, would be gone to “Rione Nicola Miraglia” (discovery spot) after falling down in the torrent, which has changed over the years in a farm road (called “Strada Comunale San Lorenzo”, obliterated by the urban excavations in the early 20th century). Furthermore, the Neapolitan pagus landscape in Roman age is reproduced in this contribute.

The obol of the Nauheim type is one of these rare Celtic coins found at the Stradonice oppidum. It is the second known specimen. The obol of the Nauheim type with ´bird man´  on reverse belongs to the group of quinars of the Nauheim type appearing in the Hessen region in Germany most frequently. The obol of the Karlstein type represents another small  coin from Stradonice. This type differs from the general series of this type by  size of the  flan ( some 11 mm)  and a specific image of horse. An obol with wreathed head to right on obverse and horse rider to left on reverse is another interestinng coin in this group. There is no analogy for this coin in literature.
