B. Establishing a purpose of the lesson
Engaging in physical activities may help an individual to develop strong and
healthy fitness. The journey to fitness is not just a snap of your fingers which you can
achieve with just little effort and discipline. Your fitness expedition will contain preparation
through procedures, as you progress in better understanding of your body.
To progress in fitness, one needs to have a fitness goal that is wisely set. This
means that it should be a real perceptible goal which you can really achieve within a period
of time.

Give at least three (3) reasons why some people do not

have progress in fitness. Not Graded

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1

What is physical fitness?
It is the ability of each individual to do his/her daily task efficiently and comfortably
without experiencing fatigue and have some reserves in emergency situations.
What are the components of physical fitness?

1. Agility is the ability to move and

change direction and position of the body
quickly and effectively with controlled
movement.

2. Coordination is the linking of senses

through brain to the different parts of the
body to produce a smooth, quick, and
efficiently-controlled movement and exact
execution of the skills, like blocking in
volleyball.
3. Power is the ability to exert maximum
force very quickly, like the initial take – off
from sprinting and baseball batting.

How are fitness components assessed?

The following activities can be used to assess these components.
1. Agility: Shuttle Run
Purpose: to test the speed and agility of the performer.
Equipment required: wooden blocks, stopwatch, tape measure and non-hazardous
surface.

Procedure: as fast as possible, run back and forth

between two parallel lines in 30 feet markings where
two wooden blocks or similar objects are placed
behind them. Start the shuttle run at the opposite
side of the blocks when you hear the “Go” signal.
Scoring: Record the shortest time performed after
two trials.

2. Coordination: Alternate Hand Wall Toss

Purpose: To measure the hand-eye coordination
Equipment Required: tennis ball, smooth solid wall, and stopwatch.
Procedure: Mark a 2- or 3-feet distance from the
wall. The performer will stand behind the specified
distance facing the wall. Throw the ball underarm
with one hand against the wall and catch it with the
other hand. Continue this process within 30
seconds.
Scoring: Record the number of catches in a 30-
second period.

3. Power: Standing Long Jump

Purpose: to measure the power of the legs
Equipment Required: tape measure, non slip surface or floor, clearly marked take-off
Procedure: the performer will stand behind the tak-
off line. A two-foot take-off and landing is required
with swinging of the arms and behind the knees to
create forward drive going to the landing area. Jump
as far as possible and avoid falling backward.
Scoring: record the longest distance in two attempts
made.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2

Softball is a complicated sport with complicated rules and complicated skills. In this
phase, you are provided with the basic skills in softball for you to enrich, broaden and
refine your understanding about the sports.

BASIC SKILLS DESCRIPTION

THROWING ➢ It is the most basic skill in softball. It
allows the team to prevent their
opponents from touching bases or
even earning points or runs. Here are
the elements in throwing
• grip
• wind-up
• delivery
• follow-through
PITCHING
➢ It is a skill that puts the game to play.
It is performed by the pitcher, one of
the key players in softball who stays
at the center of the playing field called
diamond. Here is the element in
pitching
• win-up

CATCHING ➢ Is a defensive skill used to receive a

thrown ball and hold a base runner or
batter from proceeding or prevent the
opponent from earning a point or a
run. Here are the elements in
catching
• Follow-through
• Stride
HITTING/BATTING ➢ Is an offensive used to strike the
pitched ball using a bat. It is done to
advance to the bases and eventually
leads to earning a run or point. Here
are the elements in hitting/batting:
• Grip
• Stance
• Stride
• Swing
➢ It is a very important skill you need to
BASE RUNNING/RUNNING
master, because it allows you to
advance safely from one base to
other with full speed and agility. To
condition the body for efficient and
effective running, consider the
following:
• Speed running
• Agility running
Like most sports, volleyball requires every player to get good at some basic skills before they can
truly excel in the sport. Here are the six basic skills you absolutely need to master to be a
competent volleyball player – then on your way to being an expert. In this phase, you are provided
with the basic skills in volleyball for you to enrich, broaden and refine your understanding about
the sport.

BASIC SKILLS DESCRIPTION

PASSING
Passing is simply getting the ball to
someone else on your team after it’s been
served or hit over the net by the opposing
team. It’s commonly thought of as the most
important skill in all of volleyball, because
your team can’t return the ball without a
solid volleyball pass.
The setter has the most important position
SETTING on the team and is often the team leader for
this reason. It’s their job to make it easy for
a teammate to get the ball over the
volleyball net, preferably with a spike that
the other team can’t return. The setting
motion gets the ball hanging in the air, ready
to be spiked by another teammate with
force.

SPIKING A real crowd-pleaser, spiking is the act of

slamming the ball in a downward motion
across the volleyball net to the other team’s
side of the court. When done well, spiking is
very difficult to return, which is why it’s an
essential skill. A proper spike will help
accumulate points quickly.

BLOCKING

Is another important skill. By timing it right,

you can jump up and deflect or block the
opponent’s attack before it even crosses the
volleyball net, which can take them by
surprise and give your team an easy point.

DIGGING
It is a defensive maneuver in volleyball that
can save your team from an offensive spike
or attack. Your job is to keep the ball from
hitting the floor, and you do that by diving
and passing the ball in a fluid motion. Unlike
a typical pass, you will probably be trying to
recover the ball from a steep downward
trajectory.
SERVING
Here are the variety of ways to serve:
• UNDERHAND SERVE, if you’re
right-handed, hold the ball in your left
hand while the right hand makes a
fist with the thumb on top. Make
contact with the underside of the ball
to send it over the net.
• OVERHAND SERVE you’ll be
tossing the ball up while you pull
back the dominant arm and swing.
