This paper proposes a novel approach for testing dynamics and control aspects of a large scale photovoltaic (PV) system in real time along with resolving design hindrances of controller parameters using Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS). In general, the harmonic profile of a fast controller has wide distribution due to the large bandwidth of the controller. The major contribution of this paper is that the proposed control strategy gives an improved voltage harmonic profile and distribute it more around the switching frequency along with fast transient response; filter design, thus, becomes easier. The implementation of a control strategy with high bandwidth in small time steps of Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) is not straight forward. This paper shows a good methodology for the practitioners to implement such control scheme in RTDS. As a part of the industrial process, the controller parameters are optimized using particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique to improve the low voltage ride through (LVRT) performance under network disturbance. The response surface methodology (RSM) is well adapted to build analytical models for recovery time (Rt), maximum percentage overshoot (MPOS), settling time (Ts), and steady state error (Ess) of the voltage profile immediate after inverter under disturbance. A systematic approach of controller parameter optimization is detailed. The transient performance of the PSO based optimization method applied to the proposed sliding mode controlled PV inverter is compared with the results from genetic algorithm (GA) based optimization technique. The reported real time implementation challenges and controller optimization procedure are applicable to other control applications in the field of renewable and distributed generation systems.

The current paper examines analogical processes as drivers of innovation in the creative industries. Based on a longitudinal case study of a signature perfume label, we argue that analogies embody cultural schemas in diverse material modalities, a process commonly referred to as analogical schematization. We highlight the role of materiality to ground these analogical processes, bridging embodied cognition and material products. We extend knowledge in this area by showing, among perfumers, how analogies do not only work vertically from idea to concrete product but also horizontally across modalities, leveraging material affordances in a process that we label analogical reconfiguration. We discuss the implications of understanding innovation as being driven by analogical processes where materiality is key in creating novel, yet seemingly familiar, products in the creative industries.

How is organizing accomplished in contexts that require coordination to be balanced with creative freedom? The paper addresses this question by building on literature that highlights the active role of objects in coordination and organizing processes as well as the recent turn to visual objects in organization studies. Using empirical data from a design process in artistic perfumery, the paper shows how independent actors and their sub-products are coordinated by means of a visual mood board that is able to maintain plurality while also having a directing and aligning effect. We discuss the potential of mood boards as an example of the wider phenomenon of aesthetic objects, connecting senses and emotion and providing a link across people in the creative industries and elsewhere.

ABSTRACT Drawing from a qualitative, empirical study of work experiences in a North American organic supermarket, we introduce the notion of ‘enchanting work’, a polyvalent concept referring to the aura found in certain forms of service work in contrast to the disenchantment commonly associated with service work. Enchanting work, because of its unique stance vis-à-vis workplace critique and commitment, can inform the study of work by moving beyond the dichotomy of meaningful versus alienated work. Our findings show how enchanting work can be found at three different analytical moments to 1.) infuse otherwise mundane work processes with meaning, 2.) obscure organizational control mechanisms and divert attention from precarious work conditions, and 3.) recruit the participation of workers for creating an enchanted workplace. We discuss the implications of our results for understanding contemporary worlds of work and explore both the emancipatory and ideological ramifications of enchanting work

Recent research on innovation in the cultural industries has focused on aspects used in the design, creation and coordination adopted in the design of new creative products. In the chapter, we focus on the process of design by exploring the practices carried out within the textile industry in the Campania region, focusing on high-end silk tie designs. We investigate design processes associated with stylistic innovation, understood as change in the aesthetics and symbolism associated with products. Innovation in design language or meanings of products is key to sustaining the competitive advantage in creative industries such as the fashion industry. Particularly in cases where prevailing norms limit the use of new designs and current forms are highly institutionalized, creating novelty and product differentiation are ongoing challenges. Using interviews with a high-end tie fashion designer in the Campania region, we explore the creative design process, to better understand how design...

Contemporary analysis of work have noted a resurgence of humanistic and spiritual aspects of work, such as authenticity, aesthetic values, self-expression and fun at work. These analyses all point to an increased emphasis on ‘immaterial’ aspects of labor, and all broach the question of the relation of such labor to managerial control and economic motives of productivity. Recently, such studies have begun to explore forms of workplace ‘enchantment’, whereby humanistic and spiritual values exist in a tense, if ultimately complicit, relationship with the demand for rational efficiency. While most of these studies focus on aspects of individual expression and consumption, they often overlook the rapid resurgence of spiritual practices within the workplace, of which the most notable is the ‘mindfulness’ movement as a managerial technique. Mindfulness, derived from Buddhism, has been adapted to business settings in a series of books, new managerial techniques, and consultancy approaches. ...
