The marriage programs are a particular case to discuss with regard to mass media ethics. There are a number of voices from different sections of the Turkish society complaining about those programs and asking for a ban. Some of these voices are academic, egalitarian, anti-capitalist, while some others are conservative, religious and/or nationalist. As of 2017, these programs were completely banned by an executive order in Turkey which is under State of Emergency due to the unsuccessful military coup of July 2016. In this article, various views on the marriage programs are delineated and elaborated. How patriarchal values were promoted in the marriage programs and the former complaints about those programs were presented and discussed, and the situation in Turkey and China with regard to the marriage and dating programs were briefly compared and contrasted. The final section of the article discusses the alternatives to the ban.

What would be the future of management theory? To answer this question, we explain 3 factors behind the heterogeneity of management theory from a sociology of science perspective. Then we present and discuss 6 trends that are expected to be influential over management theory in our future estimation. These are: Decolonization; Sinification; empowerment and precarization; feminization, degendering and egalitarianism; transdisciplinarity; and environmental and natural challenges and issues (including global warming, increasing number of disasters, peak oil, energy crisis, renewable energy, sustainability, green management etc.). We make the distinction between risk-averse mainstream core academia and risk-accepting critical peripheral academia. These 6 trends we claim are already gaining power in the periphery, and it is highly like that they would be parts of the mainstream science in 50-100 years. Firstly, although the old-fashioned colonialism is over, decolonization of management theory is under progress. Secondly, the rise of China and Chinese scholars will bring the wave of Sinification. Thirdly, the industrial relations oscillate between empowerment and precarization. Fourthly, with the rise of gender equality, degendering of management theory will be visible. Fifthly, the sciences including management science will move more and more towards transdisciplinarity. Finally, environmental and natural challenges will be more influential.

In this study we first briefly introduced political psychology of international relations, and moved to the notion of threat perceptions in political psychology which extends from national threats to group threats. Thirdly, we focused on the so-called 'China threat' which is mostly considered as a theory, a perception, a discourse or a thesis, but also as an issue, a theme, a hypothesis, a notion, a charge, a narrative, a debate, an image, a coverage, a topic, a school of thought, a public discourse, a story, a perspective, a proposition, a specter, a view, a syndrome, a school, a fear, a sentiment, an idea, a terminology, a rhetoric, a possibility, a mentality, and an atmosphere, in the order of frequency. We also see other scholars preferring to use 'the so-called China threat' as they don't believe it. The notion of 'China threat' is mostly associated with China's military build-up which is visible in South China / East Vietnam Sea territorial disputes. China is at odd with most of its neighbors due to its revisionist moves. Emotions play a role in all parties to the conflict including the Asian neighbors and U.S.. Chinese government, reminiscent of the past humiliations, wants to be respected; but China's military moves are viewed with fear, mistrust and suspicion among other parties. National threat perceptions are updated accordingly. As a response to China's rise, conservatives and Republicans support containment policies, while the liberal and Democrat response is engagement. This division is also related to the attitudes towards Chinese people and Chinese government. China has its own logic in its moves, but to what extent it is rational is to be disputed. The study concludes with further discussions about China's rise, considering the possibility of peaceful rise or confrontation.

Artificial intelligence is one of the hot themes of the current public discussion with accounts associating it with transformations in especially manufacturing sectors which is usually expected to lead to massive unemployment. The public is keen on speculating about which jobs will be made redundant by the rise of AI and ultimately disappear. In addition to factories, the health sector is one of the sites of contestations as many medical tasks are getting automated. Some other scholars do not agree with this panic atmosphere. They claim that like any other industrial transformation, the rise of AI will also create new jobs. Although social implications of the rise of AI are under the spot, it is hard to come up with a single view among various views shared by scholars of various disciplines and strands of research. This article summarizes and elaborates on various positions on the topic, with a sociologically critical perspective, keeping an eye on AI's highly likely role in exacerbating the already biting social inequalities and injustice. The sociology of artificial intelligence is delineated along with the ethical issues raised by the expansion of artificial intelligence in our daily lives, keeping the possibility of a humane artificial intelligence in mind.

Critical data literacy and datafication of education are reviewed. The wider context of datafication is surveillance capitalism. Educational data and learning analytics are commercialized to make a profit, which poses a challenge to the public interests of the educational system. We propose that educational phenomena that cannot be datafied are just as important as datafied phenomena. Although data utopians celebrated the emergence of big data practice, the tragic reality is closer to what data dystopians feared. The paper concludes with suggestions for future research.

The purpose of this article is to classify misrepresentations in big data. There are three major sources of misrepresentations: • Unintentional misrepresentations by surveilling governments and corporations (we call them as 'the twin big brothers') such as recording errors and sampling biases, • Intentional misrepresentations by the twin big brothers such as distortions and manipulations, • Intentional self-misrepresentations by data producers (i.e. internet users, consumers and citizens) such as faking data to protect oneself from harms to be inflicted by the health system or to protect right to privacy. This is a critical thought paper. Thus the methodology consists of philosophical discussions. The analyses in this article bring forth a new way to classify misrepresentations in big data, the notion of twin big brothers, the proposal to develop a new research area, datagraphy, and the notion of omniresistance. Against the big data optimists, this article clearly shows that the big data are corrupt from the very beginning due to the conditions set by surveillance capitalism. This article brings forth new concepts and conceptualizations with regard to big data. It is expected that it will move other researchers to reflect on and develop further the new ideas presented in this work.

Chapter 1.
Belt and Road Initiative: Globalization with Chinese Characteristics or the Revival of Historical Silk Road?
Abstract
In this chapter, we present and discuss different views on Belt and Road Initiative. Positive approaches view it as a tool for economic development and poverty reduction, while negative views consider it as a version of Chinese colonialism. Its sheer size points out even a grander project behind it which is called as ‘Pax Sinica’ replacing ‘Pax Americana’ as the new global world order. The views of various countries on BRI do differ as well. While some countries can be called as BRI-negative or BRI-averse others are more open to the related projects. There are also different positions about BRI within each country. To add even more complications, China is far from a uniform and completely coordinated actor in BRI. Negative views revolve on debt traps, securitization/militarization and environmental impacts. Each of these are briefly discussed in this chapter. We conclude that neither negative nor positive views are completely correct. BRI will have both advantages (especially for landlocked countries in the nearby region) and disadvantages. Although the initial model is the historical Silk Road, BRI’s effects will be more extensive and influential.
Keywords: Belt and Road Initiative, One Belt One Road, globalization with Chinese characteristics, the New Silk Road and debt trap.
Chapter 2.
Reception of Chinese Belt and Road Initiative in Vietnam: Between Security Concerns and Infrastructural Financing Needs
Abstract
In this chapter, we elaborate on how Chinese Belt and Road Initiative projects (formerly known as One Belt One Road) are received in Vietnam. Sino-Vietnamese relations are usually shadowed by the maritime dispute over South China/East Vietnam Sea. Thus, some of the Vietnamese researchers are skeptical and cautious about BRI expansion. Although it predominantly appears to be an economic model, BRI routes pass through disputed waters which makes us think that it also has a geostrategical dimension. However, Vietnam as a country of infrastructure gap, in which energy demand grows faster than the economy, needs BRI infrastructure investments to cut the transportation and energy costs, and accordingly become more competitive. In that sense, BRI projects are definitely needed. As a response to BRI, a group of opposing countries, U.S., Australia, Japan and India developed the idea of Indo-Pacific Strategy (IPS) excluding China. Vietnam, rather than becoming a battleground of an international conflict as is the case in the 20th century, applies a balancing and hedging strategy. BRI also activates IPS which may offer attractive proposals to lure Vietnam away from China. On the other hand, Sino-Vietnamese economic relations are very deep and close. Thus Vietnam is not willing to risk losing one for another. In this chapter, Vietnamese positions over BRI projects and the likely future of Vietnam through BRI are presented and discussed.
Keywords: Belt and Road Initiative, One Belt One Road, Vietnam, BRI-skepticism, and Sino-Vietnamese relations.
Chapter 3.
The Expected Effects of Belt and Road Initiative Projects on the Unity of ASEAN: A Tale of Further Integration or Disintegration?
Abstract
ASEAN, a regional organization covering 600 million people is expected to be highly affected by the rolling out of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects in the region. The optimists point out that the increasing connectivity will serve ASEAN’s own infrastructural plans for regional integration that lacks funds for implementation, while the pessimists remind us the likely polarization and antagonization of ASEAN member states as a response to BRI projects, since BRI’s effects on each member state are not uniform. While some of the ASEAN member states are in conflict with China due to South China/East Vietnam Sea; others have no conflicts to start with. Secondly, while some of the countries have smaller economies which make them more fragile against debts incurred by BRI projects, others are more assertive in their expectations of more favorable terms and conditions. The United States, Australia, India and Japan as major opponents of China and BRI are forming a Quad with the notion of Indo-Pacific Strategy; however, their combined influence is far from visible in the region. In this chapter, within this context, we reflect on the likely effects of BRI projects on ASEAN and South East Asia.
Keywords: China, Belt and Road Initiative, ASEAN, South East Asia, and Sino-ASEAN relations.
Chapter 4.
Russian and Central Asian Views on China’s Belt & Road Initiative
Abstract
In this chapter, we review and discuss Russian and Central Asian views on China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). BRI is considered to be a panacea for multiple problems of China such as the Xinjiang issue, economic slowdown, excess capacity etc. In this context, Chinese principle of non-interference is increasingly questioned as it is hard to separate economical, geopolitical and security dimensions. Russian influence over Central Asia is expected to wane due to BRI projects which may cause Sino-Russian conflicts. On the other hand, Russian isolation after the Ukrainian crisis makes Russia to consider BRI in amicable terms.
Central Asian official views on BRI are mostly positive, although local peoples’ objections involving social and environmental impacts are noteworthy. Since the region is landlocked, the prospects are high. However, rather than earning transit revenues only, the regional states are in expectation of Chinese investments in other business areas. Central Asia is far from the goal of regional integration. Border disputes, water scarcity, intra-regional mistrust etc. are divisive enough to prevent the region to act in a coordinated manner with regard to BRI. China, on this occasion, appears to be the major force to integrate the region.
Keywords: China, Belt and Road Initiative, Sino-Russian relations, Central Asia, and geopolitics.
Chapter 5.
South Asian Perspectives on China’s Belt and Road Initiative, and China Pakistan Economic Corridor
Abstract
China’s Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) is expected to dramatically change geo-economical and geo-political ‘great game’ in the heart Afro-Eurasia. This change will gain its impetus through Central Asia, South East Asia and South Asia. The leading powers of South Asia are India and Pakistan which consider each other as the main threat to his very existence and persistence. One of the key projects of BRI is the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). CPEC which will connect China’s Xinjiang to the Afro-Asian Ocean (which is politically incorrectly named as ‘the India Ocean’) has passed through Pakistan-controlled Kashmir region which rings alarm bells in India. Furthermore, China’s increasing presence in the island states of South Asia which are traditionally considered to be India’s ‘backyard’ evokes the suspicion of containment and encirclement of India. For these and some other reasons, India stays away from BRI projects, but with the completion of CPEC, it will be too late for India to respond. CPEC can either exacerbate the existing regional and across-the-border conflicts or alleviate them through economic prosperity. In this chapter, Indian and Pakistani views on China’s rise, BRI and CPEC are presented and discussed with a geo-strategical futures perspective.

Klasik Çin felsefecilerinden Mencius’a (Meng Usta, Üstad Meng) göre insan, özünde iyidir.

In this article, we introduced the basics, theoretical roots, and some techniques of positive
psychotherapy (PPT). We also included some of the criticism regarding the approach, our
suggestions for future research, and how this modality can be improved. Positive psychotherapy
was developed by Nossrat Peseschkian in the 1970s, and it's a humanistic psychodynamic
psychotherapy. Focusing on the resources of the individual, it is mostly a short-term, culturally
sensitive approach. This modality mostly works by increasing positive emotions, which makes
it a positive psychology approach. Although more research is needed, there is evidence that it
works well with depression cases and even schizophrenia. The PPT model incorporates multiple
components to promote therapeutic change, and these components include pleasure, developing
engagement, and meaning. In clinical practice, positive psychotherapy utilizes five stage
treatment strategy. But PPT is not without downsides. Even though it is said to be a very
balanced approach that focuses equally on the positive and the negative, it still has the tendency
to focus too much on the positive and oversimplify mental disorders. Because of this, we
suggest that PPT strives even more to become a really balanced approach, instead of just being
in contrast with mainstream psychotherapy. But still, it is a useful and valuable therapy
approach that has a lot of promise.

works well with depression cases and even schizophrenia.

Obsessive compulsive disorder is known as one of the most tiring mental health disorders to experience.
Individuals suffering from this disease have thought patterns that they are obsessed with and have an
internal motivation to act according to avoid or follow these thought patterns. Regular behaviors
developed by OCD patients to cope with their feelings of fear and anxiety are called compulsions. While
compulsive movements provide momentary relief, they do not ensure a definitive solution. At this point,
neuroplasticity, which is the dynamic adaptation ability of the brain, opens the door to some studies that
can be done on patients with OCD. Obsessive compulsive disorder has associated regions and circuits
in the brain. Abnormal fronto-striatal circuitry activity is observed to be parallelly influenced by
dopaminergic and serotonergic modulations for most compulsive behaviors. Neuroimaging studies
highlight the importance of the orbitofrontal cortex and the caudate nucleus, underscoring the
significance of developing psychiatric and neurological treatment methods in this direction. Research
on brain regions related to obsessive-compulsive symptoms has advanced pharmacological and CBT
therapies for OCD, alongside developments in the field of plasticity. Examples of brain plasticity include
deep brain stimulation, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and cortical-brainstem plasticity. Deep brain
stimulation involves electrodes implanted into neural regions like the subthalamic nucleus and caudate
nucleus to deliver stimuli. Transcranial stimulation induces the induction of electric currents capable of
activating local neural circuits through a magnetic field created by a conductive coil. Research on
cortical and brainstem plasticity in primates shows that limbic regions induce OCD symptoms. Such
plasticity applications are adding new dimensions to the treatment processes of OCD patients.

Optimism is one of the most important concepts in positive psychology. The benefits of being
an optimist seem to outweigh the disadvantages by far. Most of the research supports this idea,
and this is also how the general public thinks. By being an optimist, we expect good things to
happen in the future, and we believe we can achieve our goals. On the contrary, if we are a
pessimist, we tend to believe that things will not go our way. Consequently, we will have less
motivation to act. In this article, we take a closer look at optimism in positive psychology,
which is the kind of psychology that approaches the human psyche not from the aspect of
psychopathology, but human thriving. Optimism is not as simple as it sometimes may sound.
In this article, we examine its strong impact on well-being, life satisfaction, and even perceived
pain management. But since optimism is not without any disadvantages, we also examined how
some types of optimism, such as being too optimistic, can be not that good. Likewise, we talked
about how some types of pessimism such as defensive pessimism can be beneficial in some
cases. The most important point we find is that, the context is crucial when it comes to what
kind of psychological attitude we should take, in terms of optimism or pessimism.

The importance of education in promoting positive psychology and well-being is emphasized in this paper. We also highlight the role of education in shaping social and emotional skills, resilience, and mental health. This work also discusses the historical context of positive education, and we will talk in detail about the Positive Schooling approach. After that, we focused on mentioning and describing some programs in this field such as The Penn Resiliency Program and The Well-Being Curriculum. To finish this paper, we emphasize the importance of teachers in promoting positive education and well-being, highlighting the need for teachers to be well-trained, motivated, and committed to their work.

Social media network usage has increased noticeably during the Covid-19 period according to
statistical research. Especially for adolescents between the ages of 13 and 17 who are in
search of identity, and both are prone to social interaction and closed to communication,
social media use has become more widespread than adults in this period. Young people's
demand for social media has made examining the impact areas of social media on adolescents
important for the health of the cognitive and emotional development of generations.
According to research, social media channels have both negative and positive effects on
adolescents in terms of mental health, academic life, and communication skills. There are
particularly fundamental points that social media has negative effects on for adolescents such
as triggering adolescents' tendency to compare themselves and so strengthening mental
illnesses such as depression and anxiety, disrupting sleep routines and creating addiction,
causing face-to-face communication skills to deteriorate, and facilitating bullying. Although
social media has negative effects on the development of adolescents, there are undeniable
advantages using social media for instance, it has wide range of platforms that teenagers can
reflect their personalities and reaching wider circles, being able to work in groups in more
practic and rapid ways and gaining support groups about the issues they feel lonely or
insufficient.

Confession is an important part of the criminal justice system, and it’s an important topic in
forensic psychology. Much through history, the overlook on confession has been pretty narrow.
If someone confessed to a crime, it was the end of it. They were guilty. However, with the
development of forensic psychology, we are now aware of many different types of confessions,
including false ones. What does this say about our legal system and what can we do about it?
In this article, we examined different kinds of confessions, and why they happen. We talked
about the implications for the current legal system, and finally, we made our own suggestions
about what can be done to improve the legal system with an understanding of the psychology
of confession. Additionally, we examined and compared two interrogation methods, one named
the Reid technique which was developed in the 1950s, and the other one named the PEACE
method developed in the 90s. We also talked about the global usage of these methods. Finally,
we concluded that educating the police and the officials in the legal system is very important
because currently, the findings and knowledge about the psychology of confession are not
sufficiently applied in real-life situations.

In this article, we explained the health belief model (HBM) in detail. We also talked about its
origins and related theories. In short, HBM is a model arguing that people’s belief about their
health can predict their health-related behaviors. Being one of the most widely accepted models
in the field, it is used in many areas. But it’s not without downsides. Many researchers find
HBM is not good enough in predicting health behavior and they believe that this model has a
lot to improve. Therefore, we also examined possible additions to HBM variables. The standard
variables are perceived susceptibility, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, and perceived
severity. And one of the most important additions is self-efficacy and health motivation.
Additionally, we talked about HBM in Turkey. We examined a few studies to get a grasp of the
current situation of the model in the country. One study in Turkey finds that although the
perceived benefits of mammography are higher than perceived barriers, women in rural areas
did not undergo mammography at optimal rates. In conclusion, we think that the HBM model
is indeed useful, but may also need a lot of improvement, particularly in the sociopsychological
aspect. As an example, we examined a study regarding smoking cessation in relation to the
HBM model.

Why don’t people seek psychological support when they are in need? What are the underlying psychological factors? In this study we examine the links between self-stigma of seeking help, public stigma of seeking help and treatment-seeking behaviors with regards to various variables such as self-reliance, perfectionism, social support, experiential avoidance etc. One of the weaknesses in the relevant literature is the limited connections to the relevant health psychology theories such as health belief model. So the paper discusses theoretical relevance of self-stigma, public stigma and treatment-seeking behaviors, in addition to the delineation of various relevant variables.

Abstract
Artificial intelligence is rapidly affecting psychology. Artificial intelligence fetishism, defined as excessive trust in artificial intelligence, and in contrast, distrust, gain importance in the artificial intelligence-human relationship. Chatbots especially imitate cognitive behavioral and humanistic therapists, and studies have shown that they have positive effects. On the other hand, artificial intelligence is not independent of ethical behavior. The use of artificial intelligence in psychology raises many ethical problems. The most important of these is the issue of personal privacy. On the other hand, chatbots are expected to be effective in breaking social inequality in access to therapy. Easy accessibility and low cost are the positive features of chatbots. Chatbots, like human therapists, experience moral dilemmas: For example, should a chatbot take a crime disclosed by the client outside the dyadic relationship? If both of the chatbot's reactions will be damaging, how will the chatbot choose the less damaging option? etc. Additionally, artificial intelligence can be biased if it is not trained with the right data. For example, artificial law programs that convict Black people because prior data is racist can be fatally misleading. We can think of the same for the psychology of artificial intelligence. Other related concepts are algorithm transparency and accountability, and their corollaries, explainable AI and responsible AI. This study is a discussion text in a field that is still little studied. Artificial intelligence ethics in the context of psychology, covers concepts such as fairness, trust, accountability, replicability; informed consent; bias, security, transparency, client confidentiality, and the possibility of abuse.

Artificial Intelligence and Society: A Critical Look Through Sociology of Artificial Intelligence

Abstract
What forms does the relationship between artificial intelligence and society take? What are the effects of artificial intelligence on society and society on artificial intelligence? In this study, it was aimed to reach a synthesis in response to these and similar questions by scanning the studies within the scope of sociology of artificial intelligence. For one thing, artificial intelligence has different uses; their social effects are different. The society can be perceived as a whole or as a mixture of different segments. “In which areas do the social effects of artificial intelligence stand out?” If we ask this question, artificial law, the use of artificial intelligence in medicine, artificial intelligence applications for educational purposes, driverless vehicles, artificial intelligence weapons, 'smart' city discussions, etc. will come to mind. When we look at it from a sociological perspective, the working classes that have to sell their labor will also undergo a transformation. In countries where capitalism is blended with the notion of welfare society, working hours and/or days will decrease; In this way, individuals will be able to devote more time to friends, art, sports, and perhaps science. In societies where capitalism is more backward, the process of 'artificial intelligence' will bring more exploitation and oppression. More exploitation, because while profits rise, wages are likely to fall. More pressure, because employee surveillance technologies will evolve from panopticon cameras to electronic shackles, increasing the pressure. Technological progress has its optimists and pessimists. While the optimists outnumber the pessimists - who wouldn't be impressed by what the latest technology can do - we need to listen to the criticisms of the pessimists. The first question is to which segments of society technological progress will benefit. The second question is to what extent technological progress will support and hinder human rights and freedoms. Once a critical view is taken, many new questions will arise. It is possible to use science and technology for the benefit of humanity or the public, and its abuse is also possible. In the hands of authoritarian states, science and technology are used to put more pressure on citizens who are considered internal threats and to spend more on military expenditures against those considered external threats. These abuses are accompanied by the profit logic of large corporations. Artificial intelligence weapons that (inadvertently!) hit civilian targets in Afghanistan in the past years and surveillance technologies in the context of data and image processing in China can be given as examples of abuses with internal-external security discourse instead of rights and freedoms. In this study, the door to critical technology studies is opened. Of course, it is not possible to cover every subject in a short text. However, some opinions will be raised.

This study theoretically explores applied cross-cultural psychology, applying cross-cultural psychology approach to various subdivisions of psychology such as peace psychology, political psychology, environmental psychology, health psychology, educational psychology, personality psychology, sport psychology, clinical psychology, forensic psychology, history of psychology, philosophical psychology, economic psychology, critical psychology, social psychology, (industrial) organizational psychology, positive psychology, cognitive psychology, and consumer psychology. Emerging research in each blossoming subfield is reviewed respectively. In some fields, we see a higher number of research in this area such as “cross-cultural social psychology”, while in others the research is null or near null (e.g., cross-cultural forensic psychology and cross-cultural philosophical psychology). One distinction that appears in those new research areas as a whole is that between within country cultural comparisons involving races and ethnicities, and across-border comparisons. Both are useful for research interests. The author hopes that this paper contributes to the cross-cultural turn in psychology fields, challenging colonial-era assumptions of universality of psychological knowledge developed in the Global West and WASP only.

Plagiarism is one of the unwritten epidemics in the academia. Fortunately, plagiarism detection software such as Turnitin has been developed to counter the prevalence of plagiarism. The use of Turnitin alone has reduced blatant forms of plagiarism, but it has certain limitations Furthermore, training is necessary to maintain academic integrity. Students have various reasons to plagiarize. Some of them involve deliberate acts while some others refer to lack of skills. Students are not the only ones to be held responsible for maintaining academic integrity. The institutions and faculty have obligations as well. Turnitin is preferred for the fact that its release of similarities scores is consistent with quantitative expectations of stakeholders. The focus, on the other hand, should be on writing skills development rather plagiarism detection only. In that sense, Turnitin is based on a negative understanding of human psychology which is inconsistent with the positive psychology movement. The new challenge for Turnitin is the AI-generated content. Turnitin responded by introducing AI similarity index which needs more research. In this paper these issues relevant for Turnitin and academic integrity are discussed.
