In another explosive day in Washington DC, the Mueller ‘Trump-Russia’ Probe found its first two scalps – Trump 2016 campaign manager Paul Manafort & his deputy Rick Gates, both of whom were indicted on 12 counts ranging from money laundering to acting as unregistered foreign agents to the former pro-Russian Ukrainian government of Viktor Yanukovych. Presently, their alleged crimes and misdemeanours have nothing to do with the 2016 Trump campaign itself, therefore sparing the US President of any direct knowledge of their connections to Russian interests.

The indictment of George Papadopoulos is another matter entirely. His connections to Russia during the Trump campaign seems likely to have been proved, and perhaps further investigations may reveal something more damning against the Trump White House, although only time will tell.

In this episode of STRATEGIKON, Dr. Jonathan Z. Ludwig, Visiting Assistant Professor of Russian, Oklahoma State University & Member of the Advisory Board, SAGE International Australia discusses with STRATEGIKON host, John Bruni what the ongoing ructions in Washington means for America and for those countries, like Australia, whose strategic interest will likely be guided by ‘what comes next’.

While the People’s Republic of China has worked to expand cultural and economic ties throughout its near abroad and beyond in the last decade with great alacrity, the same cannot be said for its relationship with neighbouring Afghanistan. This paper will explore the history and nature of the Sino-Afghan relationship with an emphasis on the post-9/11 years. It will offer some reasons why the relationship is not as well established as with other countries in the Eurasian region and beyond, and it will explain how the relationship has developed in the last decade. Finally, it will make some suggestions as to what the future of this relationship might hold after the final withdrawal of NATO/ISAF-Afghanistan troops in light of China’s often conflicting concerns about and goals in Afghanistan.

Teaching is an art, and nowhere more so than in giving feedback in language classes. The feedback you give—and how you deliver it—can be the difference between motivating a student who has an " a-ha " moment thanks to your correction and unintentionally discouraging a student who then becomes disengaged or afraid. It's a really powerful teaching tool when used correctly. So how, when and what type of language feedback should you give to be a more effective language instructor ? We're going to look at six types of corrective feedback, four types of positive language feedback, and then specific ways you can provide meaningful feedback in oral, written, reading and listening activities.

The Emperor Far Away is the travelogue of David Eimer, who
formerly served as the Beijing correspondent for the Sunday
Telegraph and as a writer for the Hong Kong-based South China
Morning Post during his years living in the People's Republic of
China (2005-2012). During this time, Eimer traveled the length of the country's borders in an effort to understand the China away from the big eastern cities and coastal regions. In this volume, he sets out to explain these hinterlands to his readers, most of whom, he assumes, only know of China from reports about and from major cities such as Beijing and Shanghai.
With a border of over 22,000 kilometers (13,000 miles) that ...

When most people think of China, they often think of Beijing,
Shanghai, and the other heavily populated and highly developed coastal regions of the country. When considering India, they most often think of the large cities of Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. In India-China Borderlands Nimmi Kurian, a member of the Asian Borderlands Research Initiative's network of scholars, asks us instead to consider the frontier parts of both nations: where they meet, where they are most sparsely populated, yet also most ethnically diverse, and where they are generally the most economically underdeveloped.  ...
